Pay it forward is a book by Catherine Ryan Hyde and a movie (or more, I don't know) but it is also a wonderful idea for making this world a better place. Personally I've been thinking about this a lot... how much hurt could be avoided if only we listened instead of blaming and helped instead of punishing.
To learn more about the pay it forward foundation, please go to payitforwardfoundation.org/home.html
It goes like this: one person does something really good for 3 others... but remember, really good does not mean something too big... many times we can help by doing small things and we don't even see it. Then these 3 others will probably ask how to pay it back, and you tell them to pay it forward instead by doing something just as good for 3 other people. Then very soon many people will feel much better.
I have participated in a contest like this hosted by little-hug ( allpoetry.com/poet/little-hug ) and I thought I would host one too. The idea is to write a poem (or whatever you can think of) for someone else. Whether you'll make their day or try to help them get over something dramatic, it's always good to show them you care. If you win it would be nice if you wanted to host your own pay it forward contest with the points, but it is, of course, your choice.
I hope many people will enter, whoever they are - the point is to reach out to others and make them feel good and I hope there will be plenty of entries.
I will probably be giving out more points than I said. However, the real reward will be seeing how happy you can make others, and perhaps having them pay it forward to make this world a better place
Rules:
1. Please be positive. Anything negative, derogatory, or bashing anyone will be disqualified even if it's the most beautiful masterpiece I've ever seen.
2. It doesn't matter how many times you enter. The more people you can make smile, the better.
3. No pre-writes... I think it's obvious why.
4. That's it
Have fun and make the others happy.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 11, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 379
- Final notes: You all have done a good job. Thank you very much for sharing and dedicating your poetry to friends. It would be nice if the winners wanted to hold their own pay it forward contests or something in order to make more people share and feel good, but of course that is solely your choice.
Also, there is an honorable mention for PetrifiedAfforded - I absolutely loved the poem you entered but unfortunately I didn't see how it fit or if it was for anyone in particular.
Again, thank you everyone for the effort you have put into this.

Maybe you should edit this contest and make it so prewrites are not allowed, since that is what you want. I saw it in your rules, but others who do not read the rules will not see it and only see that you're allowing prewrites...

What a great idea for a poem!
I think it's a great idea! I know just who I would write the poem for, I'll try to find time to write one, but it may be hard because am very busy lately. Aweseome contest! Keep writing from within!

What a win win idea!

Please consider allowing pre-writes. It's difficult to write happy stuff again and again.
Life's not all sunshine, is it?

Thank you for the silver and congratulations to everyone!
