After Destruction

Read the following quote and write a poem about what you feel:

'As people passed through the crooked lanes at night on their way from working to reclaim fields or digging new wells, the sound that grew most familiar from open doorways was the weeping of women'

Your poem can be about what you think the quote is about, past experience, anything that relates to the quote.

Rules:
No stupid capitol things (you all know what I am talking about)
Try to make it grammatically correct
Swears are allowed, only don't make them the entire focus of the poem.
You can submit a prewrite, just make sure it is about life after a terrible event that has happened.
No hanky-panky
I will award 50 extra points to the first person who can figure out what book the quote is from
Listen to your muse, and be inspired

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on August 9, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
I went with my gut as far as judging this contest went. I looked for poems that shocked me, and also ones that spoke to me. Some spoke, but I didn't really get a feeling for it. I actually was on vacation while this contest was going on, so I read many of these poems for the first time when I was judging. They were all incredible, and I wish you all the best of luck in your future writing.
