Hello! Welcome to the sequel of a previous contest held by my friend. You don't need to be a rocket scientist or a nuclear physicist with a triple major in Spanish and Horticulture to enter or know what to write - simply...anything you want.
It's as easy as that! Write me something, anything, or give me something already written - the choice is yours!
Any style, any category, any theme, rhyming or not - whatever you wish.
What's a contest without rules, right? So, here are some at an attempt to not limit your artistic freedom...since this contest is pretty open to anything.
Rules (I know you're excited...)
1. Keep adult content to a minimum, please.
2. Use StIcKy CaPs, and I WILL KILL YOU.
3. Chat lingo is annoying, but use it if you wish. (I will not judge you unfairly if you use it)
4. For goodness sake, have fun!
And of course, what's a contest without rewards?!
Here you go:
Prizes
First Place - 400 points and a gold trophy
Second Place - 300 points and a silver trophy
Third Place - 200 points and a bronze trophy
There will also be some Honorable Mentions who will receive points as well...(the more points I get, the more I can give).
It's not required that you read or comment on mine or fellow contestants' work, but I'm sure they would appreciate it. I will comment on each entry as soon as I can, and I'll try to judge on-time. Cross your fingers...
And because this should be fair to let as many poets enter as possible, only 1 entry per person, please. Sorry, guys, but the line has been drawn...and I used chalk.
So, by now you must be thinking, "Well, this seems like a piece of cake. Wait - there's got to a catch!" And ding ding ding...Johnny, we have a winner! You would be right, but the catch has nothing to do with your poetry...
If you decide to enter this contest, I want you to promise me something...that you will pay it forward. The term "pay it forward" simply means that if you do something good for someone else without desiring anything in return, then that person will do the same for someone else, and so on. I received the points used to make this contest by "paying it forward," so now I want to give you points (and some sense of accomplishment and a cookie) so you can do the same. Your poem does not have to reflect this concept (and, no, it won't get you brownie points, but by all means, you can if you want to), I just want you to promise that you will go out there and do something good for someone who you feel deserves it.
So, with that said...
Write on!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 6, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 400
- Final notes: Hello again! First, let me say I am so sorry for the long delay, as it was due to my second point. Secondly, you should all be proud of yourselves because you all produced some outstanding poetry here. So outstanding that I still cannot make a clear decision (and that's why there are so many honorable mentions...haha), but since I promised results, here they are. Once again, thank you so much for entering (and for persevering) and for sharing such amazing work.
If you're wondering how this was judged, I read each of the 101 (now 94) poems, then chose 30 finalists. After re-reading many times, the list was cut, and the final 15 were read by another anonymous poet. The list was cut again, and the results were achieved based on content, style, and language. But, it doesn't matter who receives points or trophies...please remember that every poem entered here was wonderful, and deserving of praise. Great job to all!

Thanks for your comment, honey bear. Yeah, I haven't seen the movie, but I definitely will rent it one of these days.
-
Thank you so much, Wanda. Yes, paying it forward indeed is awesome.
-
LOL... I like to think that I'm always paying it forward
. I try to go the extra mile just to see someone smile... the way I look at it... smiles are contagious so I should always have a chronic case of the smiles! Even the little things matter... I always hold the door... I always say "Please" and "Thank You very much!". You'd be surprised how many people look at you funny when you say things like that.. its almost like they've never heard it before. My only pet-peeve is when people don't say "Thank You." after you hold the door for them or something like that... I guess some people just get too caught up in their own lives... Ooops it looks like I've written about a whole paragraph here... I can get carried away ^_^'... Anyway... I'm really enjoying this contest To The Pointe... can I call you Pointe? Hehe... I should stop now
-
Samuisamu, I totaly agree with you and ime the same theres no harm in a little common courtesy! Trouble is it aint common any more! Oh well 1 person cant change the world but 1 person can make it more pleasant for a few people. Lifes to short so we should all enjoy it :-p
And look I ravit to!! haha.
Erm anyways great contest I love these free style things so much varierty! Thanks. -
Thanks for commenting on my piece. And good luck with reading and judging these pieces.
-
Oh, sure, you're welcome. Anytime.
-
lol...samuisamu, I totally understand what you're saying! I do that too, and usually people look at me like I'm crazy, but whatever, man, I'm just trying to be polite...gees! And I've gotten into a habit of saying "Pardon?" instead of "What?" and people my age always say, "Did you...did you just say 'Pardon'?" Hahaha...why is it so weird to say "pardon"?! AH! The door thing! Why are you in my head?!
Thank for commenting!
-
Thanks, Titch.
