such incentive to write a trophy-worthy piece.
-
Nice to see you back.
-
Oh wow - I wish I were talented enough to write a worthy poem. - I have a copy of 'Genesis of a Dream' and I can tell you it is magical, very special.
In fact, without warning I had a copy sent to a friend who had just lost his longtime partner to cancer. He said nothing until one day he told me he had a special poetry book he reads every night. It bugged him so much where it came from that he was going of writing to Tina Brannon to tell her what a comfort her poetry was and also ask her how she came the send 'Genesis of a Dream' to him. I wish now, I hadn't told him I arranged it; my thinking Tina would have enjoyed hearing first hand what a great poet she is. –
Enter the contest with your best effort, you won't be sorry.
Let people anywhere on earth enter please Ava. ----- I’ll personally pay the postage to have 'Genesis of a Dream' delivered to them if they can cut it and win a trophy.
Hi Ava, welcome back.

i hope all is well with you ... (and congratulations !) >>> GINA

Genesis...a beginning, a new start, creation, ahh, such a nice topic Tina! If I were in the US I would have loved to be a part of this contest. Nevertheless, all the best to those who are eligible to enter. Good wishes to all.
Love,
Charishma

Thanks for sharing that with me. I am really flattered that your friend has found such a comfort in my words during such a hard time. I know I turn to poetry when I'm going through my rough spells. Your offer is very kind and generous. I appreciate your support and kind words. Thanks a million.
-
Yer, I've been eating up your money with these international costs.
Still not there. I'm sorry I live so far and that our postal service is so retarded. So well anyway, I couldn't have entered this contest anyway. Inspiration hasn't come my way yet. Hope it finds you though. Good luck with this. Brilliant prize and contest idea.
-
I love this idea and even I do not enter, I will be sure to track down your book.
-
I might not be able to write for this, but I'd still love to get a copy of your book. I hope you'll get tons of wonderful entries. Cheers!

Burning House approves of contests called "Genesis", because such contests are by that title designed to promote poems about Burning House. After all, Burning House is a living God, so what is the first thing a poet thinks about upon hearing the word "Genesis" -- why Burning House, of course. We all know that is true for several other terms too, like "Moses," "Apostle," "shrine", "monk," "Paris Hilton," etc. One other term also always calls to mind Burning House -- namely, "Tina." Everyone on this site knows that a Tina contest inevitably will be about Burning House, because Tina adores beauty, and that of course IS Burning House in Tina's mind. In honor of "Genesis/Burning House contest, Burning House therefore will applaud AND provide the following honorary cinquain:
Tina
spies Burning House.
Lipstick appears, mouth pursed:
she whispers "I'm the the match, you're
the fuel..."
-
such an excellent idea for a contest! Anyone to receive a collection of your writes would be privileged. Your such a tremendous writer and I'm sure that collection will inspire anyone to raise their bar higher.
-
Don't take it out, international entries are fine thanks to an unnamed source
-
You can enter - I have revised that
-
bah, it hasn't been your fault turd. My last quarter at school burnt holes in my britches and I'm still recovering. Plus all the expenses of having a baby. Babies are not cheap!
-
yay (again) ... and a hug forthe unnamed source !
-
Did you just call me a turd?
Anyway, yeah true. Babies cost. I know I cost a lot still today. I eat so much it's pretty sick. That's why when I'm out of school for good (in another 13 years) I'll buy my mom lots of stuff. Like a Kitchenaid set. And trips around the world. Until then, all I can do is cost a lot. Hmmm, so I hope everything is going ok at home. When are you due anyway? Just curious. You don't have to answer that. In any case, best wishes to you and company.
-
oh yes, I sure did.
I'm due sometime around Nov 21st.
ps I'll take a trip around the world since you are feeling generous
-
well ahem, I don't studder
-
Late November. That's nice. And sure... if I make millions later and haven't lost track of you, I might as well pay you a house next to the ocean, trips around the world, a hydrogen-fueled minivan and a yacht. How about that?
-
Wow what a cool and challenging idea. Have a blast judging this! I am sure you will have a lot of good entries.
-
a couple of days early and she too will be a scorp !
-
add a corvette to that and its a deal
-
as long as she comes before the 22nd she will be.
-
Hmmm, no rhyme. Would have been a fascinating subject too. Eliminates me though.
Paul -
lol grinning at Paul (he needs to break out of the whole rhyme scheme thing)
Sniffers here I want a autographed copy, I figure one day beautiful you will be famous
I've only bought one other book from a Ap Poet. So I will hit you up on payday okay?
As for this ahh I will have to write, beautiful and interesting topic so much so I might need therapy afterwards
-
Just what I've always wanted! Poetry full of hope and joy and the
teenage into early twenties struggles of a true american poet. -
they want that like I want a comment from you.
-
So if someone win, you will throw your book at them and therefor require their address? Sounds more than just a little dodgy to me.
-
It appears like you've gotten a great group to this contest. Genesis is a beautiful word for inspiration. I'm sure you will have a difficult job judging this.
I am always curious when I see no rhyme. Why is that? I was reading Yeats last night -- he rhymes? cummings rhymes. Why has rhyming become taboo I wonder? Nearly everything that flows from my fingers lately contains some rhyme -- either slight or off or end. Is rhyme really bad?
Probably not a discussion to have on this very pretty contest page but I've read so much lately on contests, no rhymes. Maybe you just don't like them and that is fine of course but I wonder does that mean everyone who doesn't like rhyme doesn't like poetry by folks like Yeats, cummings, etc.?
Anyway, apologize for my digression. I wish you as the host and all those who have submitted the best of luck!
Congrats on your chapbook as well.
Lisa
-
Ha? I hate corvettes. Sorry. It'll have to be a classy Lexus or Audi. I didn't tell you you could choose what I'd buy you.
-
Now see, look what happens when muse digs her heels in and won't cooperate. You miss contests
Good luck to everyone
-
Its not that I don't like rhyme Lisa, I do appreciate a really well written rhyming poem. I know how much work and effort is put into a poem that rhymes really well and isn't some old "sky/die/sigh/fry" type piece. And you can question my decision because you are one of the few here who can actually write in rhyme well. As for rhyming becoming taboo, I think that is probably due to the massive amount of forced rhyme poetry that is out there. cummings and Yeats are both great, but they are not among my favorites. :/
thanks for stopping by.
-
Of course I would need their address if I was sending them my chapbook (for free, at my expense, unless you didn't read that part). If someone doesn't want a free copy of my chapbook then by all means don't enter. No one is forcing anything on anyone.
-
well if its free I'll take almost any type of car
-
Tina-
I just wanted to thank you so much for this opportunity and for this lovely contest-
Thank you too, for silver placement. As i know you
and trust you i find nothing dodgy or worrisome about your handling of the contest winners.
please ignore the naysayers and continue with the wonderful, inspirational contests.
i also wanted to say that i completely understand the "no rhyme" addendum on your contest pages- if there were yeats or cummings on the pages of AP than i am sure you would willingly allow rhyme- in my opinion if the best rhyme you will find here is blue and too or sky and good bye than you are better off sticking with what it is you appreciate most.
Thanks again so much.

Wonderful contest my friend. Thanks much for giving me some inspiration to get off my butt and write some poetry
Congrats to you winnin' folk. I'm jealous, of course. lol Seriously, great contest, great reads.

There is the second contest. You are all invited to enter. It is slightly different than the first, and Lisa, I am allowing rhyme this time
. We'll see how numero 2 goes and if it is a success, it may be a continuing thing.

Hmmm...Who won the bronze, I wonder???
I am not at all surprised by the trophy winners in this fabulous contest, my Friend...Thank you for hosting another grand contest, Tina. The caliber of poetry on this page is absolutely stunning. Congratulations to those that placed, as well as to those who entered. Be well, Poets.

bronze went to AJ Morelli, now I will have to figure out why it isn't showing up.
-
thanks for your support hun.
-
well you certainly know how to surprise a feller right out o' his socks.
i didn't think my poem would be understood, much less win...
but i thank you ever so much and pat the other winners on their backs, as well as applaud all the other very fine entries.
thankz again for allowing someone to approach the contest theme obliquely,
-
thank you for the bronze, I thought mary's and grm's pieces were wonderful so i feel fortunate to have made third, congrats to all.

My last contest had a glitch in it. I sent an IM to Kevin but have not heard back from him. The bronze winner was AJ Morelli with "door." This has happened before, where it shows up on the author page but not the contest page. In this case I'm not sure what happened.
If you could fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Wonderful contest, fabulous poems. The winners deserved the awards. Now you are missing bronze and gold unless gold has gone off to win another contest.
