Two weeks "plenty of time for research and writing"???? Two years, or two decades perhaps!!!!!

But it is good to see a competition based on research...

Though the instruction to "state who your chosen author is and what you have endeavoured to do in your poem in your notes" is something that I find unfortunate. If the poem is any good at all, these points should be self-evident.

    For Vera Rich
Hello Vera I understand your statement regarding the notes for the entries but not everyone is as practised as you are in the art of Poetry. We are endeavouring to attract people to Oldpoetry that may never have visited before and the style of writing, theme or content may not be as apparent to others. So please bear with us as our intent is for visitors to enjoy themselves, extend themselves and hopefully learn something new along the way.

Shel Silverstein: We have uncovered quite a few poems of his recently that we didn't have on OP - might be worth a look for Silverstein fans.

    Hi Vonnie,

Can OP staff participate by writing something to add as an entry or do you need us to help with the judging?

    Great names here.

You know Langston Hughes is my most favorite poet. Although I've never met him, I feel like I know him personally. I worked for nine years in an office at Karamu House that used to be his apartment. I have seen his spirit walking the halls of the Theatre on three occasion.

I sincerely hope there are many well written entities, making the judging extremely difficult.

    Love YOU

No we can't enter Renee - tempting though it is as I'm sure you could come up with a brilliant piece about Langston Hughes in no time.

    I kinda sorta knew that!

I do promise to read and comment on all the entries. If you need anything, you know where I live. I may just write something on Langston anyway. A tribute of sorts, and place it on my page. Thanks for the inspiration.

Have a blessed night dear friend.

Hi Vonnie! I love your "no spamming" rule. It's a constant source of amazement to me how many people think brown-nosing is a viable sport on AP. No one wins from that activity. Ok.. enough on that topic...

I'll be entering soon. Have gone to get out my list of references and work up a little something. I love research.. truly I do. I used to stay in the libraries so late (in college) that the librarian would have to ask me to let her close up for the night...LOL....Thanks for the great contest!

    Best,
    Toni

I'll take Shel Silverstein. What do we do? I mean, I know what we do but can more than one poet write on the same poet or do we tell you who or what?

I am sure her time will come but we had to limit our selection as their are thousands of old poets on this site and only a handful of us.
There's nothing to stop you writing a poem or essay about Sarah anyway.
If you do then let me know and I'll drop in for a read.

This is such a honor to receive the gold here. Thankyou for the inspiration and the poem I wrote for this contest took some time but it is worth the efforts, for it became one of my favourites. Not only that, it was an awesome chance to study Wordsworth again. Thanks a ton for the golden chance. I feel so glad to see the gold here. Special thanks again and congratz to all other winners.
