The Coffee Anthology (Contest)

Brother, My Cup (AKA The Coffee Anthology)
is now available: http://www.lulu.com/content/353130
and features the work of over 70 poets
from 15 countries -- from Dubai to Dundee to Denver.
Here's Mud in yer eye!

500 points for the winning poem

I will be awarding a *BIG POINTS* prize to whoever can come up with an essay about safe trade coffee, fair trade coffee or shadegrown coffee.

Ok, guys, most of you know I am putting together a coffee poem anthology. I am very interested in hearing about coffee in *different cultures*

OH YEAH, and it has to be ABOUT COFFEE or at least mention coffee

READ THIS I want you to include some coffee story or mention of your favorite coffee joint (hole-in-the-wall) to spice the bio section up. Maybe mention where you do readings? In fact *you should put your story in your author's notes* NOW to boost your chances of having your poem included. Because I want really interesting author bios! (don't put your real name in yet; you can IM me with that later.)

If your poem is picked, you will need to send me a bio about yourself (name, country, what you do and like; you can IM me with that later.)

I will work with you on editing if I think your poem or essay has potential.

Please do not submit something that I have already seen in any of my previous coffee contests.

The book will be available on lulu.com at the base price it takes for lulu to print it (not-for-profit)

Get brewing!!!!

If you are in the midst of working with me on having your poem included in the anthology or if you still need to get me a complete bio, please do so by Monday.

WOW! Gosh, you must read my thoughts!!!! A while back only I was thinking of coffee from my favourite joint, Second Cup, a Canadian franchise here in Muscat, Oman. A joy it is going there, something my 'soul' looks forward to. I am on a weight watch and loss sort of thing, so have to keep the caffeine intake as less as possible because coffee inhibits the absorption of nutrients in the blood stream, but all the same, once in a while when I feel I must have coffee, I must have it and it has to be Second Cup coffee. I love trying new flavours from the supermarket. Coincidentally, where I shop it is a shop called LULU! Lots of similar things going on here Fair trade, coffee, lulu.com and Lulu hypermarket!!! I have this article cut out from somewhere on what your coffee says about you. Like if you go grab an expresso, what does it say about your personality, same for cappucino and other kinds of coffee. I'm intrigued by coffee readings as well(just as tea leaf readings are done) and I have read about coffee reading too. Can that also be included in the poem?

yes, that all sounds great. You can write a poem and add a prose thing like this in your author comments to be included in the end notes. But it seems you are a perfect candidate to write an essay on fairtrade coffee, as well. I have this set for three days, but I may extend it if I know you are working on something...

Fair trade is a shop where I used to go with Dad as a young child keen to learn the ropes of the trade And I would pull out the price stickers from apples and bananas. LOL. I was very naughty nothing like the angelic girl now I've never had coffee in Fair trade because it never was there available to the shoppers or suppliers of foodstuff or veggies and fruits like my Dad. So there is nothing like fairtrade coffee out here in that shop What is safe trade coffee, fair trade coffee and shadegrown coffee?

please google them if you are interested. I'm sure the shop your dad was taking you to was practicing the concept of fair trade.

great, I hope you do because I would really like something on Indian coffee, both a poem and an author's comment that shows a personal side of the culture and how coffee is made there, or whatever...

    Cool

With my new policy of not competing with pre-writes I wish you all the best with this contest. I know you will do a great job of judging and will get some great entries, but I am burnt out on exerting so much effort and energy and seeing it wasted. Good luck with this, will try to help comment if I can.

yes, I see we're really getting slammed with pre-writes here (all five of them) I guess a 500 point prize for a poem and a big point prize for the essay is a bit weak.

It's actually to find poems and essays for a book so if you know of any coffee poems or of anyone willing to reasearch the concepts of fair trade or shadegrown coffee, please spread the word. Thanks.
