I realize it's a bit early to be hosting this contest but mother's day and prom for me is the same week and I'm already running around like crazy.
Options:
1. How much your mother/female guardian means to you
2. My mother just lost her aunt and her other Aunt is also dying, so give me something about hope
3. Graduation-My mum just finished working her way through Grad school and she hit a lot of rough patches so something concerning that
4. A good relationship between a mother and a daughter/son
5. Motherhood
6. Strength and hope
Rules:
1. Normally I don't mind swearing but not this time
2. No bashing (homophobic, sexist, racist, etc.)
You will be disqualified if any such comments are made
3. No sticky caps
4. Enter as many times as you please
5. Prewrites are allowed
6. You don't have to put anything in your author's comments; I know that can be a pain sometimes
7. No Internet slang
8. Check for grammar and spelling. It won't hurt you for the contest but just know I will catch you on it (Look at what AP Lang did to me!)
9. Nothing too major on religion
I WILL comment on all poems. Just understand that it may take me a while. I have AP testing this week, the SATs this Saturday, prom, general junior year craziness.
I will be putting (hopefully) every poem into a little booklet for my mum and everyone will get credit.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on May 8, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: All of the poems submitted were excellent. Like so many other contest holders, I wish I could give out more trophies. Every piece spoke to me but I picked those who gave their pieces a new taste to poems about mothers.
Everyone’s piece will end up in the book I’m making for my mum. Everyone will get credit, I promise.
Thank you to everyone for being so patient with me while I judge. Thankfully I didn’t take as along as last time (two weeks). I’m sorry I couldn’t judge right away. I really had to wait until all of my testing this past week died down (AP, SAT, etc).

Sounds like a great idea for a contest! My daughter is a junior too...she's at her prom right now! (I'm normally sleeping at this time of night but , of course, I'm waiting up) Sounds like you're busy too....enjoy it while you can. I'll try to enter something here. Take care. Sincerely, mary
