Welcome to May's New Member contest!
This contest is open only for members of AllPoetry that joined in the month of May. If you joined on April 30, you can enter, as long as you did not enter into the April New Members Contest...
Option 1.
This month is the time when we celebrate our mothers. That's why we will keep this tradition into our monthly contest - but with a little twist.
Let's honor the mother of all our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers; yes, I am talking about Mother Nature.
I have found two pictures on forums.cgsociety.org that can give you some inspiration and help you out to write something.
The pictures are made by Meats Meier, the resident artist of this site.
First picture: Mother Nature 29

Second picture: Mother Nature Winter 3
If you write off first picture, then you can paint a beautiful picture with your words for the lovely colours and magnificent scents Mother Nature nurtures;
Second picture would be more of a complaint against society, the way we pollute and take advantage of her beauty. Do what you want with it, as long as you write about Mother Nature!
Option 2.
For the ones who don't get inspiration about Mother Nature, or the pictures given above we have a second option:
Write a traditional cinquain.
This is a short poem - developed by Adelaide Crapsey - without rhyme that consists of twenty-two syllables, arranged in five lines:
Line 1 - 2 syllables
Line 2 - 4 syllables
Line 3 - 6 syllables
Line 4 - 8 syllables
Line 2 - 2 syllables
Example:
Amaze
Not these my hands
And yet I think there was
A woman like me once had hands
Like these
© Adelaide Crapsey
Rules:
1. No erotica or adult only type poems.
This contest is for all ages - so those who are under the age of 18 years and those who prefer to not view adult poetry need to be able to read the entries also.
2. No foul language
3. No sTiCkY cApS or chat lingo
4. One entry per person - If you collaborate, the other poet must be a new May member also.
5. Entries must be no more than 20 lines in length.
6. You can use Free Verse or Rhyme
7. Put your option number in your Author's comments/notes section (the box just under where you type your poem)
Please make sure to check back from time to time after you submit your entry. There may be a notice of corrections or editing that may be needed. It would be a shame if you are disqualified because you didn't do this.
Before submitting your poem, please ask yourself the following:
• Does this meet closely with the requirements of the contest?
• Did you go over the poem and check for any grammatical or typographical errors?
• If you were judging, would you be able to see how this would or would NOT win placement?
We wish you the best of luck in this contest and hope you'll have a wonderful time on here
We can't wait to see what you guys come up with

I wrote a cinquain once on cookie crumbs!
Wow... seems like a challenging contest. Hopefully we won't have as many as last month contest
Just kidding, of course. Great job, Leander! Very creative contest, but I wouldn't expect anything different from you.
Good luck to everyone!

I'm glad you're stretching the contest arena, Lee-bee. Very glad. We need more like this.

Hi. I have a really good idea for this poem that I'd like to enter in this contest, but I joined at 11:50 on April 29th, and I didn't think I would have enough time to write a poem for the April members, so I was wondering if it would be okay if I could still enter my poem? Please get back to me about this as soon as you can. Thank you.
- Samantha -
What wonderful options to choose from. I am certainly looking forward to seeing the entries. I think this should provoke a widely diverse crosssection of creativity
-
Hello there Samantha
Thank you for asking this, but unfortunately I have to disappoint you here
You've joined this site indeed quite late in the month, but then again, you still had 24 hours to try and come up with something for April's New members contest...
If I'd allow you, then there's still the change that someone else who joined the 29th at 1AM for example, would like to enter this one too, and before we know it, we'd go back in time a week...
thank you for checking this out though!
-
hey everyone. i'm new here and i read the rules and i just wanted to say you have a typo -
". One entry per person - If you collaborate, the other poet must be a new April member also. "
this is a may contest, so i dont know why april is here. well i'll enter. i'll figure this stuff out sooner or later -
-fixes the typo-

Love the pictures that you have going for this contest!!!!

Oh. What an awesome contest. Now if I only knew how to get inspiration from pictures. I'm a new poet, in fact I don't even have a poem written yet. So we will see how this goes. At least I have until the 31st of May to get into this contest. TempestAira

Lovely Contest Idea!!!!!
Leander, I love the topic of your contest. Mother nature is so alluring and yes she is all powerful. We have but one earth and we want to keep it for our future families. I truly hope this will inspire the incoming poets to present us with some interesting and exhilarating works to read. Best wishes to all that participate in this. I have a feeling this will be just as tough to judge as last months. Love and blessings for everyone, today and always.
