UPDATE: In light of many people asking if they may enter pre-writes , I have decided to allow them. Usually I would say no , But since this is an " invite only " contest , I have decided to allow it. I mentioned I wasn't sure down below , And now I am.

..............

In general , I have had it. There are so many writers that go unnoticed or do not receive the proper attention they deserve around here. Or just have decided to stay below the radar. So many in fact , That I can't , Even if I try , Make this contest as effective as I would like.

Anyways , Below you will find a list of writers that I would like to pay more attention to as a reader on allpoetry. This isn't about expanding them for the site purposes , But for my own purposes.

No offense to my regular fans and the people I exchange thoughts with ( you know who you are ) , But this is more for people I am not so familiar with and most of the people on this list I haven't even commented on. ( They probably aren't even familiar with my work ) But I have read them , For sure. Just never gotten around to announcing my thoughts continually on their pieces.

If you are not on this list below , Do not enter.

Like I said , There are countless others I have had the pleasure
of coming across. But unfortunately , I can't remember all of them.

If you are on the above list , Feel free to enter.

And yes , You guys may enter more than one. As long
as it doesn't get out of control.

I may also allow pre-writes eventually. If one of you feel that
you have a piece that you would like to enter , IM me and
I'll consider it.

2nd and third place may receive points as well. I am
unsure of this at the moment. Don't hold it over my head ,
Please.

Rules:

The only rule is that I don't want stories.

Enjoy.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 20, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:

As most of the site knows by now , Even those who were not on the list , This is probably one of the longest and biggest contests I have seen anyone try their hand at. It has also been opened for almost three months. As everyone knows , I take my contests and my reading with the utmost seriousness. I think it is safe to say that I have wandered through every single entry at least twenty times , On and off line , And I do hope the comments I left on various entries were helpful not just to the writers , But the comment readers of allpoetry as well.

With all of this said , I have more than three winners. Which basically means I will be opening four more contest pages with more points , Each with a gold , Silver and brass winner. Don't worry , I will also be sending these selected people to link pages sent by IM's throughout the day. As for honorable mentions , The quality of all the poetry entered was simply too good. Which just goes to show me , After all , why each of you were invited. Also , This was really a way to allow me to become more accustomed as a reader. Allowing me the chance to hone in on different styles and leave better feedback in the future. Therefore , I give points gladly too more than three winners. I also hope somewhat that more people will come to read each of your particular talents.

    Winners:

gold - " separation with autumn " by d thoures

silver - " reflections on the west side " by bluecolumbine

brass - " to the villian's side-kick, monogram studios " by carole dudley

Now , Below are several award winners as well. I will provide the title of each here and the name of each poet whom I enjoyed and you may enter that particular poem once I have provided you with a link via IM. The contests will only be opened to them.
    No exceptions.

gold - " deserve's got nothin to do with it " by erasing0180

gold - " the rune " by odyssey

gold - whiteout ( the " you are never " explanation ) by angelofcleansheets

    gold - " a conspiracy " by dregs

    silver - " poltergeist " by watered-down

silver - " architecture from the ash ( cumulus laughter pt. 2 ) " by mike a rodriguez

silver - " pathetic fallacy " by epona

silver - " spectacular spectar " by evolutionary

brass - " baltimore exotic ( for the new and midnight neighbors ) " by anduntilthen

brass - " I was born yesterday " by aahos faos

brass - " like obsidian " purple anarch

brass - " the case of the guitar string, string - d " by quinn the eskimo

    .....

Thank you all so very much. I look forward to holding more of these contests in the future. Keep your eyes open , As well as your brains.

    Lea ,

I read about 45 poems a day on average. Of course , I only find time to comment on a few...And with my other contest going at the moment , I haven't had as much time to read and leave feedback on poets I read on a regular basis. This is to make up for that gap hopefully. It also allows me to finally show these writers how much their work means to me.

    Hope you enjoy the ride.

Wow, I really didn't think many people on this site actually read my stuff. I barely even post anymore... grew up and got boring, what can I say? Honestly, thank you. The fact that you consider me a "talent" on this site is certainly flattering. And you picked my best friend, too! Virgin Devushka got me onto AllPoetry originally. She's phenomenal. Well, I've got some poems floating about my apartment, and maybe a few in my head... my acting classes have been more like therapy sessions lately, and I've actually been able to write again. I suppose it would be rude of me not to accept such a compliment. Lemme see what I can conjure up!

    Liz ,

I have always read your stuff...Even if it is few and far between , At least you know that I will read when you post. Really I think it is impossible to not read the talent I have come across. It's not really about the amount of work posted , But the amount of attention to detail and thought that goes into it. Which is what I have always thought was so interesting about a lot of the names on the above list. You all have very unique and different styles , And when reading , It is like being swept away by a thousand whirlwinds. As a poet and writer sometimes we forget how much impact we can have on someone.

Virgin Devushka is a very talented writer. We have chatted every now and again , A comment or two here and there. But things have been much too quiet on both our ends and I felt this might span the gap again and get us back into a poetry mood.

Take your time with posting. I am willing to extend the contest for those who need extra time...As it is now , It will probably go past the date it is suppose to end on the simple premise that I hate restrictions. I don't want to feel forced to judge. I want to take my time and choose with the best of my ability. Which will be a challenge. Especially with that amount and depth of the talent I collected right here.

Glad to see that you are also feeling more creative. Whenever I can't write , I take a nap or sleep and record the sounds around me. In the morning I play them back with earphones and I see what comes to mind. You should try it. It's surreal and putting it in the window can create some interesting moods/thoughts later on.

All the best and can't wait to see your entry ,

Just logged on for the first time in a while, thank you so much for the invite. I haven't written anything in what seems like an eon. Sometimes the Muse just up and leaves me, no warning or insight just bang and she's gone. Maybe I need to do a rain dance of sorts, pray for the fall of words and thoughts to soak me. Until such a thing happens I'm fearful I won't have much poetry to offer. But the invitation to such a contest is indeed a compliment, thank you.

Mine differs. It comes and it goes. If you do think of something , Feel free to enter. Also , If there is a pre-write you would like to enter , I will consider it as well. I can open and close the contest for a pre-write.

Getting people out in the open was the main idea. With so much shit poetry spooking up the place, it's a hard days work just to find a good poem, along with the hack writers who are trying to be like the good ones, but without the talent, it's difficult to find good stuff to read. So I put this list together so I would have plenty of excellent poetry to read and enjoy. And I get to award the best pieces as well. So it's all good. I'm happy I started this contest, because I have had such a wonderful time commenting on all the entries.

    Thanks for your words.

    grannyeri,

I truly care about the art of poetry and feel that
good poets shouldn't be left in the dark just because
sometimes people with more interest in contests take
the limelight, but that is why I brought this group of
excellent writers together, so that people who don't
always have the attention brought their way can finally
get some more comments and even moreso, better critiques.

Yes...Still out there and reading your work. Sorry that I have been quiet , I just , Well , Sometimes it is hard for me to interact my thoughts properly with other people.

I plan to extend the deadline further as well. I want to make sure everyone has had a fair amount of time to enter. And you sir , Need to log on more regularly.

Which reminds me...Point me in the nearest direction of a poem I could gander at right now? I'm simple and boring as an old stone and need something good to read.

    Oh and yes , Welcome.

There is a lot of talent on here once you look...Just goes to show you how many people don't get the proper recognition as writers that they deserve. Most of the people on this site are overrated. It is a massive chore , But I love challenges. I also might host a second round for this contest as well , Possibly up to ten rounds...You never know with me. I can tell you one thing , Even the poets who do not get to enter this one or win anything , Will continue to be invited to each round. I think in this type of contest other rounds is appropriate and worthwhile.

I am very honored and much complimented to be invited to this wonderful contest! A lot of the poets that are lined up I barely know save a few that I actually have on my fave list...your reasons for holding this contest is very moral and beautiful -- I shall try and pen my best work and read up all of these many poems! Yes, I have noticed and that's why I invited quite a few of the people whose names you see up above. While there are shitty writers pumping out ranty pieces of trash, ten times a day, these wonderfully talented and gifted people are living in dry wells.

So many haven't written in awhile and this contest was sort of a kick in the butt, so to speak, to get their poetry juices moving, their muses back in order. And for the most part, it has been a success. I look forward to seeing an entry by you.

This is one of those contests that will let everyone have plenty of time to consider entering and leave plenty of time for me to take all the poems in. Unlike half of this stupid site , I actually am a fair judge and believe poetry to be the most important thing. Although , Lately , It has become a social gathering...Which is fine. But come now , The attention should still revolve around the arts!

I don't go there very much. It is very inactive and kevin just needs to face the truth: No one in their write goddamn mind is going to pay more money for a membership over there , When most can't even afford a membership on this side of things. Granted I bought a permanent membership some time back , But hell , What about the people who don't have a little cash? It's bullshit if you ask me. You don't have to pay for HTML...Has kevin not realized that it is free yet? You can go to any other site and use it for free. I think there could be a lot of improvements for the poets and people right here. Screw sharepoetry in the end. Keep the work here and focus on what you already have. You know what they say: " Bite off more than you can chew and it could all collapse ".

Thank you very much for the invite I've bunged in a pre-write that I rather like, hope you'll enjoy, but I also plan to write you something fresh. I've been a little dried-up, what with constant revision and exam practice, but for me that just means a poem a week as opposed to a poem every other day. Exams are on my brain so much that I even wrote a poem -about- an exam. Can't wait 'til July...

I knew right away you were one of the ones I forgot. And I completely mean that in the best way possible...Think of it in a good way...Save the best for last right? LOL.

Take your time with a new entry. I at least have the pleasure of reading a pre-write now. Which is no less important in my eyes. Poetry in poetry.
