Please read the criteria carefully before proceeding!

A contest with a difference
Basic layout of this contest is:
1.Research, 2.Reading, 3.Choice, 4.Reason, 5.Writing
Go to
oldpoetry.com/
War Category
oldpoetry.com/tag/show/War
What you have to do is:
Choose no more than 10 separate poems from WW1 poets OR from WW2 from Oldpoetry Poets which you would suggest as inclusions in an imaginary anthology of War Poetry written by Poets of the First OR Second World Wars only!
The choice of poets on Oldpoetry is wide and varied. However if you have a poet/poem in mind from either of these wars who may not be available on OP, please IM Rufina Caraid and if it checks out both poet and/or poem will be added for you to use in your suggested collection.
Should you choose to post two entries they have to be one for each War period. The style of writing changed dramatically from the First World War to the Second, two entries from you will show both the differences and similarities which will be interesting.
Please leave a review on each poem you choose. (This will be checked)
List them in the authors’ notes together with link stating which War (1914 – 1918) or (1939 – 1945) period you have chosen.
Then: and this is the points winning section and the main part of this contest:
Write a poem, prose or story^ (no less than 150^ words) saying why you chose those particular poems, what effect do they have on you, how do you feel about the author, the emotions stirred, empathy, sympathy grief, anger, the list goes on.
The choice of writing style is totally up to you.
This is not meant to be Anti-Kaiser, Anti-Hitler, or dissing any Country or person, this is NOT the point.
This contest requires a respectful approach. It is about the men and women who answered the call when they were needed to defend their countries during these 2 particular wars.
The first prize will get the lions share of the points, so you see it will be worth the effort.
There are 2 judges (so far) Rufina Caraid and Legend both have an avid interest and respect for the poet soldiers/sailors/airmen and women of these wars.
Rules – of course there are:
Even though the defence forces issued expletives we don’t want to read too many.
Sticky Caps – No way
Chat Speak –We won’t read it – it hadn’t been ‘invented’ fortunately during these times in history.
Please check spelling and punctuation – respect and dignity is called for here, These points are not being given away unless they are well earned.
Any questions please IM Rufina Caraid
This may give you a good starting point:

-
What a great idea for a contest. I am going to have to see if I can come up with something. I am sure going to give it a try.
-
I have done this a dozen times already – but I might try again if I have time - I have several on All Poetry . . . and other sites

"Please comment on each poem you choose."
So, if a host of a Contest at this website asks people to comment on their work or others it's against "Site Policy" to do so but for the "website" to request one do this at a sister site -- that's okay?
Sounds unfair and hypocritical. -
i don't believe it has anything to do with the site's policy, at least in this case it's a requirement. as the poem chosen would be written by poets whose works are used as inspiration. the contest holder didn't ask us to comment on his/her own work!
i think Kevin would not mind
but i dunno may b it doesn't seem ryt to me to refer to the policy in this case.

As an assistant in this contest, not the setter I still feel that i should reply.
This contest is to promote the Oldpotry works.
It would be easy to say that one has read a number of poems, and lay claim to the points.
This is not asking anyone to comment on any AP poets work, which I assume is the reason for,the site ruling.
The contest lays out what is required for this contest.
There are a fair number of points provided for a little work for reading and commenting on a few, poems.
Then a simple question of why the reader chose the works they did. No one is asked to compose works, although the reasons for choice, can if they so wish be in that form.
I am sorry that you see it as some sort of battle to prove a point that to my mind.( and it is only my mind) seem a little petty . But i do appreciate that you may see it in a different light.
I hope to see you entering as you have clearly looked at the contest
Thank you for your comments.I do not mean this in a flippant sort of way, They are appreciated Thank you -
Kevin should have made it possible when re-designing Oldpoetry to have it possible to create Contests there. Oldpoetry may be a "sister" website of allpoetry but it is not this website and therefore all rules that apply for this website should be abided by.
It may not be exactly the same thing but I feel it is similarly the same thing and therefore is hypocritical -- that is my opinion if you or anyone else disagrees with me, that's fine. I doubt anything I say will be listened to.
One can promote Oldpoetry without MAKING people comment on the work there. -
The fact that I replied to your comment should show that I at least am listening.I would never be so rude as to disregard anyones opinions.
I just feel that in this occasion that offering such point rewards would more than offset the small amount of work required.
As for making anyone comment that is not necessary if the poet does not wish to enter.
It I feel is laid out in the contest and those wishing to bypass the contest, as with any other contest is entitled to do so.
As for promoting Oldpoetry without making folk comments, that maybe true.this way though it has perhaps encouraged some to pop over and take a look.Who would not have done so.
Please be assured that This person is always willing to listen to anyones comments , and reply
If you wish to bring this to the attention of one of the moderators or Kevin I am sure they will rule on it.
I wish you all the best with your writing, and hope you do not feel slighted by any of my comments -
Von Here from Oldpoetry Danaus. On Allpoetry 'spamming' as it is called to gain reads, comments etc is Not allowed that is when the author of the poem is asking for comments.
In this case Our Old poets are dead, you do NOT receive points for commenting on Oldpoetry works and this is a contest to gain more interest in the works of the past, to make the site better known for people who enjoy poetry to gain some insight into what these particular War poets endured, and yet they still found a release from their surroundings by writing poetry.
There are 1000 points up for grabs here and as Legend stated there is little work involved in giving yourself a chance to win them. No-one is gaining anything by this contest except the person who shows the most interest and is able to appreciate this contest for exactly what it is. It is not a hypocritical statement, and I apologise that your perception has made you think this way. Oldpoetry and Allpoetry have a different set of rules regarding this, we openly encourage people to come over and read, comment and hopefully take something away, and even perhaps learn something to add to your own poetry along the way.
I sincerely hope that you can now look at this contest with a fresher appreciation, please give some thought to entering. It was never my intention to upset people and for that I'm sorry.
I have to add to that Oldpoetry contests such as this have been going on for a long time, just look on OP Research Team home page and you'll see the varied themes which have been showcased and supported with no points or trophies as the end result.

I have been really challenged, writing for this contest. I couldn't decide whether to focus on WWI or WWII, both of which I am "fascinated" by. In the end, I chose to write two entries, one from each war (as asked for).
Reading (or becoming reacquainted with) the OldPoetry poets and poems I chose took me back to the classroom and the appreciation my headmaster gave me for poetry. I can still hear him reciting "Dolce et Decorum Est", and the way he really emphasised the last three words of the second last line: "The old LIE".
Since finishing my entries, I've been over to OP a few times, looking up some of my other old favourites from school days. I had forgotten so many great poems existed. I even found a few I'd heard of but never read before!
Congratulations to the OldPoetry Research team for creating this contest. For me, it has brought back happy memories and expanded the way I see poetry, while also giving me insights as to how to improve my own writing. -
Could Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels be added to OldPoetry? Or doesn't it qualify?
-
oldpoetry.com/opoem/55970
I had to find out when it was written but during WW2 fits our OP site perfectly. If you can find out anymore about Bert Beros I would be happy to post it to his author page with you name on the credits.
Thanks so much for this.

One of the plaques contained a poem written on Oct 14, 1942 by a digger Sapper H Bert Beros narrating the courage of the New Guinea carriers who coined the term “Fuzzy Wuzzy Angel”.
