Jesus: Plain and Simple (Christians Only)

Many people have ideas about Jesus. Many have written books about Jesus. In either case, many of them, with their books, are inaccurate about who He is, regardless of authorship.

I want not only poems of artistic value, but also of truth, as seen in the Bible about Jesus, for I believe the truth to be a part of the artistry here. I am talking about the truth as seen in scripture, and in the historical sense. What has begun 2000 years, and continues is because it is the truth.

Options

1. There are 7 “I am” statements spoken by the Lord. What are they, and what do they imply? If you need help to find those statements, IM me or my collaborator, Sharcu.

2. Jesus asked His disciples “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”, then He asked, “Who do you say that I am?” What do you say about these questions, in one poem.

3. What did the writers and people of the New Testament (like Paul, Mary, and Peter, etc.) say about Jesus-Is he God, a spiritual leader, a great teacher? If they said he is God, how did they define God, then? What was their source for what they believed?

Rules

1. No cussing. Not appropriate for Christians, and no erotica, for the same reason.
2. No bashing of other faith systems. No Bible bashing. Must be Jesus-centered.
3. Give scripture references.
4. Put in your comments which option you have picked.
5. Have fun…It’s possible with this.

No prewrites. This is a study, as well as an expression through poetry what you say about Jesus.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 6, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
Okay, this was tough! Many of you wrote something that was creative and imaginative. However, only two of you fulfilled what is in the rules; namely putting the option in the comments area.

So I made my decision based on scriptural reference, as well as creativity.

But since I did not follow up on the option thing, due to a lack of time. I gave one of you the bronze, even though they did not put the option as required.

Thanks for all your efforts. They are greatly appreciated.

I've learned one thing, this being my first contest: Don't run one unless you have the time to manage it. This may be my first, and last, contest.

Thanks, Sharcu, for your assistance. You da man!

I like a challenge. That will be their challenge as well: Prove it to me.

    I'm expecting a stir...

Not an expert-a human. Just someone who loves the Lord.

You don't have to enter, if you don't want to. It's only a contest.

    God bless...

Hi Guys. Nice thought behind this contest. But I feel I am not qualified to enter as I could not write anything this deep in a poem. Good luck with it.

Thanks, Samplette. That's encouraging. I just figured we all may learn something from this.

I say again, for anyone else reading these: I just figured we all may learn something from this.

    God bless, Samplers...

    Aww, c'mon.

Okay, how about this? Pray to the Lord, about the Lord, and by the power of the Lord, let Him show you something, through the Lord's word.

Paul, Peter, or any of the others were only humans. Yet the Lord showed Himself to them.

You might be like one of those on the road to Emmaus.

    Up to you!

    God bless ya...

I think you are limiting yourself here. Many religions recognize Jesus. It might be interesting to see their perspectives. You have probably already considered the Christian conceptions.

I agree with Andy. I'm not a Christian but I love, and respect Jesus.

    A wonderful idea.

Let me think on this because right now I am in Bible study and we are in the book of Mark. I like this concept. You know I have said that the Gospels are actually an eye witness account of Jesus. Many ask what he looks like and surely his disciples knew what he looked like in human form. I know the Jesus that has come to me. So I will work on a piece for this.

I agree with you Cuchculan. Just because you're Christian doesn't really mean you're accurate. Just because you believe, Jesus, a MORTAL, was the son of God, the Great and all that is beautiful, doesn't make you right either.

I think to say that other people's religions are wrong is your own opinion but it doesn't mean it's right to say it either. I am sure the Bible teaches respect and tolerance as well.

    Take Care,
    Jasmine

Ya, contests can be pretty hard to judge... maybe sometime when you have a break from work you can run another one. If you ever need points, you know where to find me. Every one of the entries (I read all of them, yes) was very awesome. I felt very blessed this morning as I was going through reading them. Thanks to everyone who entering! God bless you all.
