Alright, this may be asking for trouble, having two contests running at once, but I just got the idea for this one and didn't want to wait...
Found poetry is, according to Wikipedia, "the rearrangement of words or phrases taken randomly from other sources (example: clipped newspaper headlines, bits of advertising copy, handwritten cards pulled from a hat) in a manner that gives the rearranged words a completely new meaning."
In this contest, you will be using song titles, band names, movie names, book titles, and general things that most people will recognize.
Edit- You may also do traditional found poetry, but please, make it found poetry and dont just write something and say that it is found poetry...
You may use simple words to connect the lines or ideas, like: and, but, the, it, he, she, etc., but nothing else... everything has to be found.
I think this could be fun... and hopefully challenging.
The Prizes
First Place- 400 points
Second Place- 100 points
Third Place- 50 points
Second and Third prizes are ~*~VERY~*~ Likely to rise, I just don't want to promise more points than I can currently afford. For example, My OTHER contest started with first at 300, then 75 and then 50. Now it is 150 and 75, and if at all possible, second and third will both double
There may or may not be honorable mentions. Honorable Mentions will get applause and ten points
If there are not enough entries, I reserve the right to cancel the contest I will give each person who did enter applause and twenty-five points. I really hope I don't have to do that though, but your efforts will be rewarded if I do.
I will trust that you didn't just make up song names and such, but I may check up on it, and if I found that you did make things up, I will remove your poem from the contest.
I comment on all poems, and will applaud the top three, along with honorable mentions. I will not do any applauding until after the contest is closed. Oh Yeah! I also try to comment on another poem of everybody who comments on the contest, or enters.
Rules-
1. All poems are your own, but the words that make them up are not.
2. No sticky caps
3. Unless you are using something that is misspelled originally, please make sure you spell things correctly
4. To ensure that you read the rules, mention llamas in your comment box
5. Nothing is really off limits, if you would like to write found erotica, who am I to stop you? Just be aware, that the younger poets won't be able to read your poems.
6. Have Fun!
GOOD LUCK

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on February 21, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 400
- Final notes: Alright, this didn't go exactly as I pictured it, but that is okay, because all of the entries I got were great anyway, and judging was still difficult. I will give two HM's to the following:
Mickie27 for 'I Actually Found Someone for me'
and
Pretty Hate Machine, for 'Sick'
Everyone else, great job, if I could give you all a prize, I would. Thank you for the entries everyone and I hope you all check out my future contests!
Thanks again

oh wow... im definately gonna do this...... im super excited to start!
great idea -
thank you!
-
Do we need to give you a bibliography of sorts? Like where we found our poetry? What songs? Magazines? Etc? Thanks.
-
uhm, no you don't, but i do reserve the right to ask you for one later. i really want people to be honest for this contest. i hope you enter though!
-
OMGOSH! like I was totally going to enter this with a funny mixture of songs and singers....but when I started to type my mind went totally blank
-
Can we use any line from a song, or does it have to be the title only? Because I'd love to enter if we have a little bit of leeway from where we get the found lines.
Silverfire -
well, i still think you should enter! just may take you a while longer...
-
the thing with using lines from songs is that it that it brings way too much possibility... if i let you do it, i have to let everyone and ill be getting things that i would never be able to trace... so im sorry, but im gonna have to say no to that one... i want you to enter still, there is SO much music, and SO many movies and books out there, that you should be able to come up with something ::gets on knees and begs:: please enter anyways!
-
This was brilliant, There's a song by the Gym Class Heroes that springs to mind when reading the theme for this contest, called Taxi Driver, where the lyrics basically consists of emo bands. Definitely thinking of entering this, kudos for originality ^_^
-
please do enter! i would like that very much! good luck and happy writing!

-
how many entries can we have?
-
you can have as many as you want, only one will win though, if i do choose you to win. thanks for the entry and great job.
-
This is a great twist on the found poetry theme...I was taught that found poetry is something that you find almost entirely whole somewhere else and make it into a poem (for instance, those annoying bliking advertisement banners and all of their "warning! warning!" junk). But this sounds like a really fun way to do it
I'm definitely thinking...maybe I should try to keep a running list of cool song, book, and movie titles throughout the day so I can have something visual to work with
Anyways, good luck hosting and judging this original contest! *bookmarks it*
-
im glad you like the idea, hope you come up with something great and good luck!
-
Ive done found poetry before so this is going to be very interesting to see the outcome
Rae -
i hope you enter! i hope i get some good stuff, i like the one entry i already have. thanks for the well wishing
-
A brilliant idea for a contest and I am going to enter this and try my hand at this. I have heard of it before, but have not written many so this will be a challenge for me. I have read some of the entries already and they are very good you are going to have a difficult time judging this contest. All the best to you.
-
i love this idea...it has let me get something out of my soul that has hitherto been stuck in.
thank you for the idea, if for nothing else. And I edited about the llamas.
google the 'llama song' if you haven't already. It's good for a few laughs.
-
heres a llama theres a llama and another little llama llama llama cheesecake llama llama llama duck (i think i already know it hehe) in frosh year my friend in the agriscience program made up some thing about purple llamas taking over the world... its a jokish cult in my group of friends lol... if you want, read the day the llamas danced, one of my poems... you obviously don't have to... but its amusing (i think it is at least) and about llamas being uhm... not very llama like? hehe whatever

Thank you so much for the gold. I really enjoyed this contest, was quite a challenge. Congratulations to the other winners. I know everyone put a lot of time into the poems. God bless, Lora
-

Thank you for the bronze! I didn't see that coming at all.
I hope you have more contests in the future, because this was very refreshing for me.
