If you're looking for easy points or an easy trophy, perhaps this is the time you should exit stage left
If you're up for a challenge, welcome
The rules of this contest are simple.
1) If you wish to enter, you send me an IM.
2) I, in turn, send you one word. ( I will get back to you so please allow me time as I work )
3) Your challenge is to write me a poem about the word I send you. The word must be included in the title of your work and may or may not be included in the body of your piece but the poem has to reflect the feeling/impression the word creates for you.
4) One entry per person
5) ONE ADDITIONAL RULE: If you are having a problem writing with the word I first gave you I will allow you to exchange it once but if you chose to do so you must use the second word I IM you and can not use the original word.
You pick the style and length. Simple enough
1st place 400 points and a lovely gold trophy
2nd place 200 points and a shiny silver trophy
3rd place 100 points and a dull bronze trophy
There will be honorable mentions and a little something for all who enter with a total point count for this contest at over 1400 points.
If you IM me for a word, please make sure to get your entries in as soon as possible as 5 hours into the contest I already had 46 requests for words and AP closes the contest at 42 entries.
Best of luck to everyone and let the games begin
Ruth
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on January 26, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 400
- Final notes: Wow...I'm exaughsted! 84 IM'd words, 33 poems, and 1811 points later I've come to the decision that holding contests is some kind of masochistic feat!( It's no wonder I don't hold them very often) Before I cut to the chase here I'd just like to thank everyone involved in this contest for your great entries and level of maturity and sportsmanship that you showed throughout this competition. You should all give yourself a little pat on the back now

Hello, I am sorry for the delay, I know you have given me a word to work with, but unfortunally I have been distracted with some crazy things at home, I will try to do my best now and submit a suitable poem, I hope that my muse won't fail me!
Thank you for your patience

Sensational idea that without a limit might have you judging 1000 poems. I doubt any space is left, I fear I am too late- but if not, throw a word at me. otherwise- good luck judging this one!!!-J

I'd like to say to everyone in the contest so far how pleased I am at how this contest is going. It's great to see people posting comments on others works in the contest even though that was not a requirement of the contest I love the fact that you are supporting each others poetry. This has been an amazing adventure thus far and I'm sure that judging these entries is not going to be an easy task. Thank you all for the wonderful support of this contest and making it one I'm proud to host
Ruth -
well with as many entries as you've got i wont be surprised if it is difficult

This is one of those contests that's just begging to be applauded. (Can't believe I didn't do that before...*slaps forehead*)

Wow thank you!
YOu did throw a doosey of a word at me, but it made me do a little thinking and a bit of research. All of it was well worth it. I was pushed into my first iambics in a very long time!
Congrats to all the winners! I will try to read a few more of these as the day goes along.

Congratulations to all the winners. ~Jim

Ruth, Not because I won the gold and not because you gave me the hardest word ever "dub" but this was a great contest--around 30 entries. I know this had to be a hard, hard decision for you. You were an excellent contest judge--very supportive, impartial. Your attention to detail was 'spot on' (quoting your words). Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this contest and I trust I did you proud--because you certainly made me proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of contestants and even prouder that I had the privilege of meeting you, another wonderful poet friend of AP. Expect to have me sitting at your door quite frequently. Warmly, Belle
