Religion and Politics

Did I get your attention?

These are the two most controversial subjects there is, and I want to know what you think of them.

I am agnostic, I believe that there is something higher than us, something that we will never fully understand, but I am not going to call that something "God", the whole labeling thing really gets to me sometimes. With that said, I want you to tell me if you agree or disagree, and then why. Explain it to me, if you disagree with what I believe, I only ask one thing: Please do not preach to me, nothing will get accomplished with you doing that. If you agree with me, tell me why, what made you come to this conclusion, things like that.

I am not democrat or republican, conservative or liberal. Once again, labeling ,makes me mad. Explain to me your political beliefs, you can include views on the war or any other subject that Bush has stuck his nose in (as you can tell I am not a very big fan of that man.)

Now...
there is a difference between an argument and a debate, I do want you to comment on other people's poems in the contest, but if their views are different than yours, do not ridicule them or anything like that, do unto others as they would do to you.

For examples of what I am looking for, you can read my poems Supernatural faith or any of my recent political poems, this is not a requirement though, you don't have to.

I think that's it, the other usual rules apply, so have fun!

BE CREATIVE
CREATIVE
CREATIVE....

I will comment on everyones poem, but not until the end of the contest, just to be fair.

I agree, you make a good point, maybe you could write something about how they are the same, I think that would be interesting.

Hey, yeah sorry I did see this, but I was short on time so I didn't comment. This looks like an interesting contest, I like the fact that there needs to be a justification included in the poem for the opinion. I would love to enter but I'm working on a thesis paper for history, which is consuming a lot of time. If I did enter I think I would write something along the lines of

"A Boss in Heaven is the best excuse for a boss on earth, therefore If God did exist, he would have to be abolished"
    -Bakunin
I find that quote very funny although I'm quite sure Bakunin was being entirely serious.
Best of luck with your contest!

Thank you So much for the award and the contest. Some say poets should not take on social or political issues with poetry. I say if you do not it is only so much intellectual masterbation. Congrats to the other winners and all who took part in this challenge.
    Peace, Rob

Your poem was one of the best that I have ever read, and you deserved first place. I read it to myself and then out loud to my husband and we both agreed that you deserved it, thanks for entering.
