Everyone knows her, the single mom, the one who’s working, going to school, and raising a child or two alone with no support. We all know her, the one who's overlooked, the one who’s looked down on, the one who wants to give up.
I’m in that place right now and I know I’m not alone.
The purpose of this contest
Write a poem, it can be to me, it can be to single moms in general it doesn’t matter.
Inspiration is the key here, its getting to the holidays, its getting to finals or some kind of bump in the road to one or another, inspire them to go on, to keep their head held high and to not give up.
If you’re going to write one for me (awww..) but that won’t earn you brownie points, Ill be as fair as I’ve always been.. but Ill let you know I am at that point where I just want to give up but like I said I’m not alone, so if you don’t know me that doesn’t mean you cant enter, just write about single mothers in general, or if you are one write about what inspires you to go on if you know one here on AP let them know how much you care.
Usually you’ll see these contests up around mothers day but why wait till then? So get to writing, I’ll be handing out points to second and third as well and a couple of honorable mentions as well.
I will postpone the contest as needed BUT it won't go past the 15th of December.
The rules
1) No cussing, sticky caps, or adult content here
2) If you are writing about an AP poet feel free to put her AP name here.
3) You can enter up to two times, but no poet will place twice.
4) You don't have to comment on any of my pieces, but if you read and comment on the other entries it would be nice.
5) Have fun
Good luck.. and I assure you, I will read and comment on all the poems.
Get to writing.

Mal, Sweetie, I'm so glad you're doing this contest. These women are often so forgotten, and I don't think we have enough contests to tell them how important they really are. Love, Gramma ♥

Awwww Mal, this is such a sweet idea for a contest. I know it has to be hard for you along with so many others but I also know that you are strong and you can push through whatever comes your way. I will surely be entering this, but just know that I believe in you and I'm so proud of you my dear. If you ever need anything, I am here for you okay darling?

HIIII!!!!!! My mommy is a single mommy and she looks after me all by herself because I don't have a daddy. I would like to write a nice lovely poem about my mommy if that would be okay for your competition! You are a single mommy too? Do you have a little girl or a little boy? My name is Julie-anna!
-
Hey!!
Im sorry it took me a while to reply.. yeah writing about any single mom would be great. I, too, am a single mom, and I have a lovely daughter named Kara Lynn..
Once again, sorry it took so long!

This is a really nice contest! My own mother was a single mother raising me and my sister. It was rough on her, even though she never said so to us as kids. *hugs* to all you single moms!

This is so very sweet! I'll try to come up with something for it!

This was a really hard contest to host, and thanks to you all I wouldnt mind holding another one if it had this kind of turn out.
Thanks again guys! -
I intended on entering this with a poem for my sister in law who got pregnant about the same time as my husband and I. The father ran off, now is giving her trouble on paternity and child support. Of course she has the help and support of family but her "teen" and young adult life is forever changed. She's on'y 19 and did a lot of growing up- I guess it's been a mixed blessing for her. She has met some decent guys who will take the package deal so we're hoping it all turns out well...
anyways I'm going to read and comment on the entries when I get time, and I'll be sending links to her. Maybe I'll print them out and give them to her as a gift. Not sure how I'll do it but I think these poems might be something she needs to read.
Congratulations to the winners! And keep up the good work, single moms! -
Mal, sorry I didn't get an entry in in time....I have been so busy and stressed I just didn't have the time. But Congrats to the winners and I hope that your contest went smoothly.
I love you!
Mom -
A single working mom is hard to beat. She often times plays the role of dad and mom (I know for my mom did the same without support from my dad). My hat is off to you as I know you will strive to be the best mom you can. May an angel always watch over you and your child. May you always have strength for those weakest of moments. Personally, I think you will always be able to be strong every step of the way. God bless you!
