Two Sides To Drugs

Ok everyone.  I've got some song lyrics here.  Well only two songs.  It's the two sides to the drug debate.  I know, I know.  One of the lyrics is from like WAYYYY back when, but it fits my contest, so deal with it ok? Ok.  Anywho.  I'm not going to make you look up the lyrics, I was nice enough to do that myself and I'll copy and paste them into here.  What I want is for you to read BOTH song lyrics and then write a poem or an essay on one of the songs.  Now.. one song is kinda sorta FOR drug use, and the other is kinda sorta AGAINST drug use.  I'm pretty sure you'll be able to figure which is which once you read it.  Uhm.. anyway.. here's the guideline on what I want:

Guidelines:
1) Either I was a poem or an essay on drug use (whichever side you stand on on the issue)  Do not give me little kid writing please.  I want well thought out essays or poetry on this subject.  If your brain is too fried to follow through unclick this page haha.  Yeah.. anyway..

2) If you choose to write an essay form.. please make it AT LEAST 200 words.  I know that's asking for alot.  I'm not looking for you to look up ABOUT drugs.. just give me your views on them and why.  It's easy enough people.

3) If you write in poem form.. I'd like the poem to be at least 15-20 lines long.  And make the poem have like.. you know.. grown up words.. not just.. "I think drugs are bad because..."... that's easy enough too.

That's all for the guidelines.. now on with the rules.. yes.. I DO have rules...

Rules:
1) Rule number one.. I'M number one.. haha just kidding, just kidding.. you'd know that line if you ever watched Joe Dirt.. anyway.. the real number one rule is: Think things through before you enter my contest.

2) Sorry.. no prewrites allowed.

3) Don't enter shit (crap: for those offended by the word shit). hehe

4) In your author's comments I was 2 things: I want which song you chose to write about and I also want to know which side you stand on about drugs... Example: I am for drugs, or I am against drugs... you don't have to use my example though.. I'd actually prefer you NOT to use it because it was mine.  THINK OF YOUR OWN!!!

Anyways.. those are the rules.. live by them, breathe them, sleep them..... nevermind lol.. just playing.. but here's the lyrics to the songs I've chosen for this sarcastic and somewhat smart mouthed contest of mine.

K's Choice
Not An Addict

Breathe it in and breathe it out
And pass it on, it's almost out
We're so creative, so much more
We're high above but on the floor
It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side

The deeper you stick it in your vein
The deeper the thoughts, there's no more pain
I'm in heaven, I'm a god
I'm everywhere, I feel so hot

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)

It's over now, I'm cold, alone
I'm just a person on my own
Nothing means a thing to me
(Nothing means a thing to me)

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)

Free me, leave me
Watch me as I'm going down
Free me, see me
Look at me, I'm falling and I'm falling.

It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive I feel...
It is not a habit, it is cool I feel alive

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive
If you don't have it you're on the other side
I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)
I'm not an addict...

Jefferson Airplane
White Rabbit

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice
When she was just small

When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen softly dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the doormouse said:
"Feed your Head
Feed your Head!"

ENJOY EVERYONE!!!

Ok.. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear enough to some in the contest.  I don't know, maybe I'm the only who could see the difference.  But in the song Not An Addict the song is pro-drug and hopefully you can see why.  The song White Rabbit is anti-drug for the fact that they are using the little kids show Alice In Wonderland.  Alice took drugs and seen these hallucinations.  It's just warning you on what drugs could do.. that's why I considered it anti-drug.  Just to clear some things up there...

Hmmm, I always thought White Rabbit was kinda pro-drug. Anyway...I really identify with the lyrics of the first song, from experience. But I don't know that that's such a good thing.

I like this contest idea. I will attempt to enter, though my feelings on drugs depend on the type of drugs and other contexts, such as reason for use and age of user.

as far as what side I "fall" on for against, thats a bit too much information for you or anyone else, methinks thats too much to ask of anyone. whats your social security number again?

"...I'm not an addict (maybe that's a lie)..."

Did he not just concede the fact that he's an addict (and therefore has been drawn into the 'problematic' stages of drug abuse by the promises, pressures, and temptations mentioned throughout the rest of the song)?

yeah... Im glad you said "kinda sorta" cuz neither of those songs is really for or against drugs in any clear way...

If you know anything about the Jefferson Airplane that created that song, youd probably be more inclined to think that song is pro-drug (its a psychedelic rock song taunting the comforts of consensus reality and really almost encouraging mind-expansion through chemicals)

where as "not an addict" is actually more of an anti-drug song... its just subtle... the point being to show you the mind set of someone who really does have a level of addiction... its ironic.

White Rabbit explains drug effects.... but as it then tells you to 'feed your head', I'm quite sure it's pro drugs dude...
