What do all the words in this poem have in common? They are all NOUNS. This poem was the result of an incredibly fun contest held a while back. This contest is ALL ABOUT NOUNS.
You can use any form, rhyme or not, but every single word in the piece MUST BE A NOUN. This means that if I look it up in the dictionary, the spelling of the word you use must have that little N specifying its definition as a NOUN.
As in my piece, you can insinuate its usage as anything you want. Some nouns are both nouns and adjectives, nouns and verbs, blahdeeblahdeeblah.
Your piece will be judged first and foremost by its NOUNS. If your piece has even one word in it that cannot be defined as a NOUN, it will not win. Period. I will comment on all pieces and if I see a word that is not a NOUN, or that I can't find as such, I will mention it to you in my comments so you can either --defend your noun-- or --correct it--. I will wait 2 days from the last entry to actually judge and award trophies so that even last minute entries will have a chance to either show me the error of my ways, or correct their mistake. I will comment on the poems as they are entered, so you will have plenty of time to either edit or show me the error of my ways
.
The rules--or lack of them.
1. NOUNS ONLY, used in an capacity. Just remember that the spelling of the word you use, MUST show in the dictionary as a NOUN in at least one definition.
2. Articles and pronouns are taboo for this contest. So NO --this, the, a, it, I, you, them, those, ifs or buts.--Butt-- would be acceptable. It is a NOUN.
3. You can sTICky if you want to. Just keep the readers vision in mind when you do. I don't mind the use of strategically placed SticKIES for effect. But too much of a good thing can make you go blind.
4. NO obligatory comment required in your author's notes unless you just want to use my favorite ONE MAN'S CRAP IS ANOTHER MAN'S POETRY. That is entirely up to you, though.
5. Strategically placed swear words are fine as well. Just keep younger readers in mind and if your poem is adult, classify it as such. Also keep in mind that for judging purposes, I may turn on the youngster word filter to read your poem through at least once. If I feel that younger readers have only gotten --an eye full of bunny--, that will affect the way I judge your poem.
6. Commenting is optional as always. It is nice if you do, but I don't want to be the comment police. As always, you are welcome to be blunt and honest when reading my poetry, but try to be kind to your fellow contestants.
The great rewards of NOUNING are
1st--300 points--gold shiny
2nd--200 points--silver shiny
3rd--100 points--bronze shiny
Every entry will get a comment and an applause. Each entry will be place on my --Brave Souls-- list on my author's page and the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners with be placed on my Hall of Fame List.
Be creative and write something spectacular that means something to you. If you like you can tell us what it means to you, or you can just let us draw our own assumptions.
Once again, the only poems that have a chance to win are those with only NOUNS. I will only award trophies to poems made up entirely with NOUNS. In fact, I am even taking into account my own capacity for human error. If for some reason, I should make a mistake-- If anyone finds something other than a NOUN in any of the 3 trophy winners, and I can't show that it is a NOUN, I will award that person 100 points.
So start writing, already
Just an afterthought, since the contest has only 2 days to go and I have been able to keep up with reading and commenting, I think it will be fine to add multiple entries if you like. 3 Max though. I don't want 357 entries in a day or anything
.
So keep on NOUNing. I have loved all the writes so far.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 12, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: Wow, this was way hard to judge. Thank you all so much for creative, and meaningful entries. The effort each author put into their contest entry is definately apparant. Every one of you deserves a trophy. I have added all of your entries to my Brave Souls list on my authors page and I will be adding the trophy winners to my Hall of Fame list momentarily.
Remember, if any of you entrants find anything in one of the 3 trophy winners pieces that has no noun definition, IM me and let me know which word and which piece it is in. If I cannot produce a noun definition, I will send you 100 points.
Again, thanks for enterring. I hope to read more of all of you in the futureEntries [2]

Now THIS is a challange , let me see if I am up to it.
-
I remember seeing that last noun contest and being intrigued by it. Kudos for a challenging contest you've presented here.

A very challenging contest. I have to admit, I tried this. And failed miserably. Honestly, I got halfway through the write, and threw up my arms in disgust.
I am a failure, pure and simple. Or looks up brightly I'm just entirely too long winded for a write of this kind. (wipes forehead) Good. Now I can go on believing I am a goddess of the written word (with verbs, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, and whatnots and whathaveyous)
. hehehe. Good luck to all that enter, and good luck with the contest.
Bestest of wishes and all that other mushy, gushy stuff

Lol, it is indeed challenging. One thing you might try, is writing out what you normally would, then going back and picking out only the nouns. Sometimes the list of nouns that we use in a piece makes an nicely creative colorful piece. Even if you don't enter, it is a lot of fun
. A lot of the fun for me has been learing new nouns
. Did you know that the word --think-- actually has a noun usage? Lol, I think that a whatnot and a whathaveyou would be nouns
-
where are my brains when they are needed? This at a glance looks easy but I am certain that it's not at all
I never realized how addicted to adjectives I am until I tried this... obviously, I've not succeeded yet!
Great contest very interesting.
s and best wishes... ~genie~

Thank you so much!! This was really fun...I couldn't believe how this would even be possible at my first dozen attempts..lol I can look at nouns in a different way now..lol
Congratulations to the other trophy winners...a great contest.

This was really a fun contest to judge as well as a learning experience. I really got a lot out of it in addition to the wonderfully creative entries
. Lol, I learned some interesting nouns and a variety of ways to use them. I wonder if a person could make verbs or adjectives do the same thing
Thanks so much for enterring.
