CONTEST - Gunpowder, Treason and Plot

This year is the 400th anniversary of the 'Gunpowder Plot' or 'Bonfire Night' as it is now known.
In case there is another 400 year old Gunpowder plot celebrated on the 5th of November, this is the one where that poor sap, Guy Fawkes, gets all the blame for a plan designed and funded by a group of religious extremists.
Send me your poems based on the story. It can serious or funny as you wish. The style is up to you but be aware of my preferences for rhyme and rhythm and humour!

Rules
1. Stick to the original theme.
2. Comment on my poems or other entrants as much, or as little, as you please.
3. Pre-writes and multiple entries are fine by me. Just stick to the theme.
4. If I don't think it's appropriate I'll delete it from the competition.

Points 500 for first Points for 2nd and 3rd are available as are points for honourable mentions. It depends on the number and quality of entries.

Have fun.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 2, 2005
  • Rewards: Gold: 500
  • Final notes:
An extremely disappointing entry. Not for the quality of the entrants but for the lack of numbers.
The judging may have been easy but I would have preferred a harder task if it meant more entrants.
Still congratulations to the three winners and Yah Boo Sucks to everyone else.

Many people have forgotten the true origin of this plot. Guy (or Guido) Fawkes was really only the hired help but he gets the blame / fame.

Thanks for the 100 points. I agree that the number of entries is a bit disappointing, but I've experienced the same when I tried to get poems for Burns' night. I'm no historian, but it only takes a couple of clicks on the net to find out all you want to ken about Guy Fawkes and the rest. Never mind, I appreciated the contest. If you want a plethora of entries, may I suggest the following titles "My Kitten" "My Puppy" "Why nobody Loves Me". Entries should come in thick and fast. Thanks for raising the tone. Best Wishes. Congrats to the others.
