Welcome to my 4th contest, which is my 1st group contest! This is a contest for members of the group The Starhikers ONLY! Entries from non-members will be disqualified and removed from the contest. If you're not on the memberlist, and want to join this contest, make sure you get invited into the group first.
Ok, I guess you want some OPTIONS... Well, I did a contest on the Endless from Niel Gaiman's Sandman earlier, and thought that this time I'd do a contest on the seven deadly sins from Dante's Divine Comedy. Don't remember all? Ok...
1st Deadly Sin - Pride
2nd Deadly Sin - Envy
3rd Deadly Sin - Wrath
4th Deadly Sin - Sloth
5th Deadly sin - Greed
6th Deadly sin - Gluttony
7th Deadly Sin - Lust
Some of you may order these a bit different, but these are (I believe) from Dante's Divine Comedy. Lencio-sunchild offered that the order should be Pride, Avarice (Greed), Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Anger (Wrath), and Sloth, abbreviated into the mnemonic PALEGAS.
That should be easy enough, shouldn't it?
And now over to the ever so important RULES...
1: This is a contest for members of The Starhikers ONLY! (See above.)
2: I want no swearing, cursing, profane language, racial or ethnical hate, erotics, sticky caps, etc. Behave, and all will be good.
3: Everyone entering has to comment on one of my poems, and one of another group member, preferrably posted within this contest...
4: Upon entering the contest, remember to add which poems of mine, and of another contestant or group member you have commented on to the Autor's Comment, along with the words "SEVEN DEADLY SINS".
5: If you break any of the rules, you're disqualified, so read the rules again...
No prewrites are allowed (I am guilty of Greed, I want NEW poems
), and you can post as many poems as you want!
I guess you want to know what kind of awards I plan to give for this contest. Well, here's the PRIZES...
1st place: 400 points
2nd place: 200 points
3rd place: 100 points
I want to thank the following group members for donating points to this contest...
Melpomene: 50 points
Yunaleska: 100 points
Storic: 50 points
p: 150 points

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 20, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 400
- Final notes: First of all I want to thank everyone for entering this contest. I got 14 entries, and from some of you I got two or three poems. Many of the poems were good, and I had a hard time finding the winners. All I wish is that I could have given gold to you all, but alas, that's not the way it works...
Gold goes to Laura Lamarca for her poem "The Queen & The Clown". I chose this to be the winner because it made me laugh, and because it summarized all the seven sins into a nice package. The rhyme and the rythm was flawless aswell. In addition, each stanza described a sin, wrapping it up in the eight stanza with "seven sins".
Silver goes to sunny day for her poem "My Pride You Will Never Take". This was the poem I felt hit dead on describing one spesiffic sin. It fits perfectly my image of the sin of pride. The rhyme and the rythm was excellent.
Bronze goes to lencio-sunchild for his poem "The Seven Deadly Sins". This I chose for it's christian perspective on the seven sins, and in addition it explained that there were originally eight deadly sins, but was reduced to seven, for the vainglory of the church, something I had no knowledge of.
Honourable mention goes to...
- captain splat for his poem "The Seven Lions". This was a great poem describing the seven sins in a pride of lions. A solid 4th place!
- sunny day for writing not just the silver winning poem, but writing two poems more, each pretty close up to the winners.
- mistic moonlite for doing a great effort with her two entries. "Seven Sins (Acrostic)" reached high, but alas, no trophy...
Thanks to everyone for entering. I hope that those of you not winning any trophy, or getting an honorable mention, still will participate in future contests. You are all my favorites!
