A Contest for Gamers and People who Love Them

I am, among other things, an on-line gamer.  I have been playing mmorpgs since November of 1999 when the title Asheron's Call first went retail.  I played it several years and over the last few years I have been active in Asheron's Call 2 Fallen Kings/Legions and Everquest II.

Asheron's Call 2 Fallen Kings/Legions will be closing its servers at the end of the year.  This is what prompted me to run a contest concerning gaming.  The entire community is writing final chapters, stories, poems etc concerning the final days of AC2.

So what do I want from you?  Poems in any form about online gaming of course.  Write something concerning your favorite game whether mmorpg, multiplayer, or stand alone.  You can write poems incorporating the lore of your favorite game or simply about yourself and gaming, how it affects you, your laggy computer, whatever you want as long as it has to do with gaming.

You can broach the topic of gaming addiction if you like or simply describe your reactions to games in general.  If you are not a gamer, but simply involved in some way with people who are, you can write poems about your experience as well.

These poems can be serious or funny.  They can make fun of gamers, but they don't have to.  Prewrites are allowed if you happen to have something laying around that addresses the subject of gaming in some manner.  Be creative and give it your best shot.

Teh Roolz

1.  Keep swearing to a minimum.  An occasional expletive is OK if it really fits the context of your poem, but I don't want to read the unfiltered chat of a pk chat channel.

2.  Use discretion when you pick your categories.  If you feel your poem is adult, then list it as such.  Keep our younger gamers in mind as you type, please.

3.  I prefer not to read extensive erotica.  I don't care if you mention how ample those virtual reality women on from Leisure Suit Larry, but I don't want details .  Keep those to yourself.

4.  Feel free to use gamer language if it fits in the context of your poem, but if your meaning is not 100 percent clear make it so in your authors notes.

5.  Take it easy on the sticky caps because too many of them make my eyes go crazy.  Also try to keep the color of your background versus the color of your type in mind.  If I have to highlight, I will message you and give you a chance to change it.  I will take into account that my graphics card may not read the same as yours so I won't disqualify you, but I don't want to miss the uberness of your poem because of visuals.

6.  Comment on any poem of mine.  Truth is, I probably won't check, but I would like your feedback.  Brutal honesty is great.  I like that sort of thing on my poems.  Don't be halfway, if you love it then love it a lot, if you hate it tell me why and hate it with a vengeance .

7.  Comment on others in the contest.  Again, I probably won't miss it if you don't, but be kind and constructive with comments on the entries, but comment cuz you want people to comment on you.

Keep in mind that 6 and 7 are somewhat optional.  Do it because it is the right thing to do because this site is about getting feedback on your work.  The more you comment on others, the more they return the favor.
