Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 4, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: With four entries, easily the least succssful contest I have held. I wonder how many people know who Rosemary Sutcliff and Claus von Stauffenberg actually were? Rosemary Sutcliff was an author of fine Arthurian historical novels which she wrote though crippled with Still's Disease from childhood and almost unable to move. Clause von Stauffenberg was the wounded German officer who nearly succeeded in assassinating Hitler. I would have thought all four offered scope for some thoughtful poetry. Either Thom Gunn or Ted Hughes wrote a fine poem about Claus von Stauffenberg, beginning "What made the place a landscape of despair" and Robert Conquest wrote a fine one about George Orwell, beginnnig "Moral and mental glaciers melting slightly." I recommend you look them up on google. Thanks to those who did enter, and as for the rest, as some of us Aussies say,: "Lift your game, people!"

Oh I missed it... I am considering having a contest on the Waughs, but the Wavian clan might just be too big for this place...

That is a pity, as I needed more entries.
