Here's what the contest is all about: The Endless from Neil Gaiman's comic Sandman. You must write on one of the seven Endless siblings. How you write is totally up to you, because it's not me, nor Albus2 that decides who wins, it's YOU - or rather the readers out there in the AP community - that decides who wins. You do this by casting your vote through applause. The winner is the one that got most applause by the end of the contest, and so on. Now, isn't that much more fair than that you should depend on what Albus2 or I like? Did anyone say American Idol?
This is a contest for a total of 500 points, divided the following way:
1st place: 300 points, and gold trophy
2nd place: 150 points, and silver trophy
3rd place: 50 points, and bronze trophy
(Smaller prizes can be awarded our own favorites among the poems.)
The rules are tough, and MUST be followed. Those who doesn't follow them will be disqualified, and get their poems removed from the contest. Here are the rules:
1) No prewrites or rewrites are allowed. If we discover a rewrite it *will* be removed...
2) You have to write about one of the Endless, and don't sway from the topic, or else...
3) Comment on one of my poems, one of Albus2's, and one of another contest poet...
4) Give one applause to one of the other contest poets, not neccessarily the same...
5) You must add the following in the Author's Comment of your poem:
a: Which poems you've commented on, with name of poets and of poems.
b: Which of the Endless you've written about, if it's not clear enough.
c: The words ENTER SANDMAN, so we can see you've read the rules properly.
NOTE! If you want to submit more than one poem, you have to follow the rules for your next poem as you did for your first, and comment and applaud again. The 'entry fee' of three applauses is for each poem, not for each poet.
Here are the Endless options... Sorry for the pun.
1) Destiny - the oldest of the Endless, who is the keeper of the book where everything is written.
2) Death - she is the one that everyone meets when they die, and send everybody to the afterlife.
3) Dream - also known as Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, the Sandman, the Dreamweaver, and more.
4) Destruction - the one that abandoned his responibility, and let destruction become chaos.
5) Desire - he/she is love personified, everything you ever desired or wanted. Everything. Ever.
6) Despair - the twin sister of Desire, Despair sneaks into everyone's life once in a while.
7) Delirium - formerly known as Delight, the whimsical, who visits those fallen for delight.
If you have not heard of the Endless, you could check out this page:

... and others on the web, just search for "Neil Gaiman Sandman", and you'll find a wealth of information.

This is a very brilliant idea to have a contest. I am really amazed. I will try and enter this time, I really feel great about this contest. It is fresh and interesting on AP!
Love and light,
Lencio -
I've actually debated doing the 'applause equals wins' idea myself, but then you have the problem of people 'paying' people (promotion and the like) to applaud their poems. Just a little side note.
Good luck with your contest! -
Yeah, I thought about that, but that's similar to how it's done in American Idol.
But after all, the votes you get can be used to buy promotion, so it works out anyway... thanks for the comment! Give it a try, won't you?
-
I have never heard of the endless, i just went and read the page, it is very cool. I will try to think of something
Good luck with this
-
Thanks for showing interest, Huntress. I look forward to your entry in the contest...
-
Yup.........I said American Idol.
-
Hi sounds like fun, I shall have to do some research as this is new to me, so hold on I'm coming, don't know when but should be there before closing, all the best with your comp,oh ye gods and little fishes more research, help, hugs Di
-
Hi did I get that right, we must give out 3 applauses? hugs
-
Yes, to enter, you have to applaude me, Albus2, and one of the other poets in the contest. You don't have to do this same day as you enter the contest, as long as you do it... One a day is enough.
-
I have no doubt that it is okay. I was referring to the requirement to applaud the hosts' poems. I like the entry I read. I may or may not applaud. But, I am not about to applaud the hosts as a requirement to enter their contest. Kind of self-serving.

Wow,this sounds like a really cool idea for a contest, I can't enter because I'm devoid of ideas at the moment, but good luck. It sounds like an interesting idea.

Thanks for your comment, pearjazzy! Sorry to hear you're out of ideas. Maybe till next round, you got some inspiration?
-
I don't see the problem with commenting and applauding on the hosts' work. They comment and applaud on your work back so it's not costing you anything really! Mabe you just couldn't be bothered...hmm, show some commitment before entering a contest and then abusing the hosts for the rules they apply. If you don't like he rules, don't enter...easy. And no arguments.
Have a nice day,
Kitty -
You know, looking back, I am wrong. I am deleting my comments, as they are construed as immfamatory. I apologize for the discontent they may have caused. You can run your contest anyway you choose. It is not my place to voice my opinions. Well wishes with the contest. I do hope it works out for you.
-
Thumbs Down.
Sorry, Rous. If I had been aware of this mascquerade, I would have weighed in alongside you. This contest is a farce. Basically, you're getting people you probably don't even like to pony up points so that one of your friends can win a trophy. Slick gig. And if you want these comments erased, wail at the site, because I'm not a-doin it, dig? -
You know, earl, everyone is in their right to have their opinion. I guess you have the same opinion about American Idol, right? Sigh! There's always a critic!
-
i cant say i think this is the best way to judge a contest but it is different and its what mor people should be looking at taking a different angle on things makes life a bit more spicy u knw.

Thanks, it's good to have some on my side too. Thanks!
-
this reminds me of a comic book called death.it was writen so that death had to spend one day every I forget how many years as a human to know what it is like to live and how it feels to die. Ya know that kind of thing. it is really cool. Delight is funny funny in there. she is always trying to make stuff like bike cake. Despair tells her about some foods that she sees people eat they are sad threw her mirror. desire in the comic is totally into himself. isn't destiny like fate?
-
ForeverDreaming, you are absolutely right! Death spends a day as a mortal every thousand years, so she can be reminded of how it is to be alive, and to die. Fate is one of Destinys names, yes. You seem to know of the Endless... won't you write a poem? At current time, it's still about one day left, so hurry!
-
well I only known destiny as fate and it was said that they have no gender. I only know as much as I saw from that comic. I guess I can try.
-
Well, the Endless are personifications, and APPREAR to be either male or female. I look forward to your poem, ForeverDreaming. With a nick like that, you should do well!
-
I fear my limited knowledge won't make a good poem. I entered but I seriouslly wish I could have done better. Hope people like it.
I know Destiny can be a girl or boy in fact more often they see destiny as a girl so the dubbing of Destiny as things such as the Lady Of Fate. Heck the name Destiny is a girl's name. kinda weird but oh well. If you hadn't guessed I am a Destiny fan. My one friend is a Death fan.
I am writing a story presently on Fate, Death, and Life. I wanted to give them to life.(no pun intended.) and in another story I am working on the grim reaper I made up is really cool. He is funny and nice and has a british accent! I got that character from myself when I wrote nothing is normal poem and had the grim reaper serving tea. hmm, if death served you tea would you drink it? lol, I also have a painting I made of the grim reaper serving tea. it is funny because my classmates freaked out over the picture. I would ask why. some said that it was the fact he was the grim reaper, others said it was because of the bloody scythe I painted in the corner. -.-' yep I am not normal. enjoy! -
Hi, thanks to everyone who made this win possible, hugs Di
-
Congratulations, you deserved it, Di...
