~ Pre-Talk ~
~
~ This contest is being run by myself (dragondancer) and my beloved AP Sissy/posting partner, Rose Dark Thorn. Together, we have come to the conclusion that there are a great deal of wonderful writers out there (somewhere). So....without further ruminations, (or absent wandering of words, for you less articulate) here we go.
Contest number 15 for me, 11 for Rose Dark Thorn is on:
Love--> The stuff like Romeo and Juliet, Mickey and Minnie Mouse....
Fantasy--> The stuff like dragons, unicorns, vampires, jubjub birds...
Dark--> The stuff like vampires, death, depression.... -
- Introduction -
- Usually, I start my contest out with an introduction. Here, I lead everyone astray and get all the less attentive and lazy sorts of writers out of the way. Why? So that they don't crowd the postings below with worthless, non-contest related works. That is how it is. I have this introduction to scare all you readers that simply look at the length and run away without even bothering to read it. That's right, you. All of you people can just go away now and let the actual contestants enter. Okay? All gone? Good. For the rest of you, I'd suggest heading straight down to the section I've titled "Options." I've put the bird icon thingy next to it so you can see it better. (
) Now, for all of you strangely determined to read my filler section here, I've decided I'm not even going to ask you why it is you must. I'll simply go into a triad about something non-essential like the use of shampoo and conditioner on a mirror or something. Which, by the way, is very stupid and shouldn't be done. It takes a lot of elbow grease to get that stuff off. If you haven't a clue what elbow grease is...I feel very sorry for you because you must obviously be lacking in that.
Remember, head straight to the section below this that is highlighted with that bird icon. Don't read this section, unless you're really bored or whatever. If you haven't taken the hint by now, that's okay because right after this, I'm done. Why? Well, because I have other things to do than to sit here rambling about elbow grease and the unfathomably worthless absence of brain matter in some people's heads.

~~ Options ~~
~~
Choose one option below. (the numbers tell you that that is an option)
~~ 1. Chose one of the below written sections below as the first line(s) to your story. You may not alter it in any way save changing a name or gender. That is the ONLY thing you may change.
--> Mary blushed slightly as Derrik leaned in close to see if her arm had been cut too deeply. She'd nicked her arm on a loose nail while she'd been hurrying after him for this 'surprise' he had to show her. She could feel the heat of his breath against her shoulder and she bit down on her lower lip. She couldn't believe she was thinking of...
--> Maple leaves crackled against the pavement. They were like red and yellow beacons, warning Angie exactly what was to come in only a few short months.
--> Dan smiled almost apologetically as he looked into Rosaleen's emerald eyes. He hadn't meant to make her cry. He couldn't have guessed that his question had been that painful. It hurt him to even think he had brought back a horrid memory that she couldn't bear to even look upon.
--> "Gysha! Slow down!" It was too late.
--> The fireworks went off almost unexpectedly, breaking the moment in which he was going to finally kiss her. How annoying!
EXTRA POINTS MAY BE AVAILABLE FOR THIS ONE BELOW
--> "Try it," dared Rayne as she held the blade of her spear against his neck, "You'll regret it."
Eyrion smiled slightly and chuckled. He flicked his gaze to the side for a moment and snaked a hand up behind her, grabbing her spear from behind and tossing it to the ground off of the ramp. He then took Rayne into his arms and planted a soft, lingering kiss against her full lips.
Rayne bit him and pushed away. She caught her spear swiftly in her quick retreat and slammed the butt of it into his stomach, "Onto the ramp before I regret something."
~~ 2. Romance the Sisters. That's basically the idea. Here's the basics for each person. Please be sure to differentiate between which character you are romancing.
-->Rose Dark Thorn: "Obviously romance is what melts my heart. Spoiling me and stuff. Making me feel special..."
--> Rose CherryBlossom (Rose Dark Thorn's story-based persona): "Hm, well...Romance...she doesn't trust easily, so you have to 'woo' her with things she likes, like roses (obviously). She'll just try to act stubborn about it and she convinces herself otherwise...not matter how obvious it may be."
--> dragondancer: "I love romancy stuff, but I'm a tough nut to crack. Logically speaking, I won't believe you unless you lay it out hard, deep and well reasoned."
--> Rayne (dragondancer's story-based persona): "A complete romantic at heart, she doesn't believe love is for her. In fact, she's cow-eyed at everything even remotely romance-based, but she'll sock you in the mouth before admitting it."
~~ 3. Children of Children. You are in love. What's the problem? You're in love with the contest holders' daughter! Win over the mother and daughter.

Choose one option below. (the numbers tell you that that is an option)
~~ 1. Character Descriptions. Chose any fantasy-based character. (No stealing someone elses) Now describe it for us. Details are important.
~~ 2. A Land, Far, Far Away... Somewhere, not here on earth or in the Milky Way, there's dragons and unicorns and all those such things. Tell me about this fantastic place. Make me see it as if you were holding pictures in front of me...or better yet, a short film!
~~ 3. Scene One. Chose between these two scenes. This is where you are when your character(s) come on. This is what has been happening prior to their entrance and it can't be altered in any way. This does not have to be the beginning of your write. It's just the "set-up."
--> Rose's Home. A large enchanted forest with several odd-shaped clearings is nestled between the edge of a deep red-stoned canyon and the rolling mountainous hills that separate it from the rest of the world. Water is plentiful and wildlife abundant. Trails are narrow and windy through this maze-like land and there does not appear to be a single hut nor cottage throughout. At the very edge, close to the side where the canyon lies is a single house where a god lives with his wife and children. These are Rose's friends. About a third of the way across this land from there is a large lake, half shrouded in trees. At the far end of the lake (opposite the cottage) is a large waterfall that tumbles down a large, smooth stone face with a strange likeness of a rather baggy gnome's face. The canyon does have a river running through it. The said river is deep and slow-moving with very little rapids.
-->
--> The character Rose CherryBlossom: Straight black hair, silver and gold highlights. Red eyes. Slim figure, always wearing halter top dress with slits to hips on both sides. Vampire/dragon/fairy/demon. 5'6" body, 6' leather wings. Wings are mostly red. Can turn into a dragon. Clothes do not tear/stretch/etc when shifting forms.
--> Rayne's Home. A wood-structured town sits at the very end of a large, quiet bay. There's one main street that curves off to one side and most buildings are splattered beside it. The terrain to one side is flat and smooth, dotted by prairie grass and wild flowers with an occasional large oak or sycamore. Just far enough to be seen as far away, mountains claim the land on one side of this land and rolling hills the other. Directly opposite the town is a rather large hill that is topped by a large building of some oddly-shaped bricks. The roof is shingled and angled gently with several crooked and off-shaped chimneys. A long wooden fence runs around vast gardens of flowers, herbs and vegetables, all orderly cared for. Windows are all nicely cleaned and sparkling and a stable stands off towards the mountainous side. Several additions have been made to the inn and yet it all seems unified in its strangely stacking-sort of uniform. Behind the hut is a large somewhat "eight-shaped" lake with a waterfall spouting from a small up-shooting of craggy white granite. Trees line the sides and wild gardens populate the scene before the hill suddenly shoots down towards the base of the surrounding hill country. The inside is cool and quaint with hallways leading in opposite directions. A dinning room is off to the forward-left (upon entering) and the kitchen to the forward-right. Everything is very orderly and clean. There are wood floors throughout except in the kitchen where there is black hand-made tiles. The bay is called Yucu Miki Bay. The town is called Cheric and the Inn (Rayne's home) is called "Witchery Inn for the Adventuring Hearts."
-->
--> The character Rayne the youwarkee: Slightly wavy brown hair, red highlights. Golden yellow eyes. Slim figure, prefers to where slacks and tunic of forest-based colors, but black and white work as well. Youwarkee (human like character with large griffin like wings. No human/griffin blood in this species). 5'6" body, 6' black feathered wings. Wings are extremely sensitive and only appear at night/complete darkness.

Choose one option below. (the numbers tell you that that is an option)
~~ 1. Twist the Story. Here's a familiar story. It's happy or whatever, make it not end that way! Destroy it!
--> Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet fall in love and get married without their parents knowing. Juliet pretends to die to get out of marrying another man. Romeo finds out and kills himself.
--> Titanic. A rich girl is engaged to a rather unaffectionate man. A poor boy woos her and falls in love with her. The boat hits an iceberg and both try to save each other. The engaged man finds out and tries to kill poor boy.
--> Wizard of Oz. A girl is always in trouble and runs away from home only to run back for worry of her family when a twister comes down. She is picked up (with the house) and dropped in another land where she meets strange characters that resemble those of her family. The girl and friends head to a huge city to speak to the only man that can help the girl get back home.
~~ 2. Kidnapped love. Chose between being the kidnapper or the kidnappee. This actually does happen!
--> Kidnapped. Wrested from your normal life, tell me how you're at first petrified and then infatuated by the person/creature that has you in its clutches.
--> Kidnapping. You've watched and you've finally managed to capture your victim. What you do with this victim is up to you, but he/she has started to grow affectionate to you. What do you do?
~~ 3. Depression. Meaning feeling worthless, down-trodden, etc.
--> Description: Explain it to us. Tell us exactly how it feels...every moment.
--> Who's fault. Someone putting you down? Who is it? What are they saying?
--> Personal Abuse. Why?
!!!!!!!

@ RULES @
@
@
1. PG-21. Keep it clean. No coarse or crude language.
2. Grammaticks. It must have a good sense of spelling and grammar.
3. Poems and stories must make sense.
4. Write what you chose in your comment box. Copy-paste it if you want.
5. We want no more than five writes from you.
6. Make your work easy to read. No Sticky Caps, put spaces between paragraphs/stanzas and remember RULE TWO!!! ---Later Additions---
When and if we edit this, you'll know by looking here.
There are some new rules. (Number five and Number six)
You must separate your paragraphs if you wish for us to read it. It is difficult to do so otherwise and if it is lengthy, we'll lose interest and grade on what we've read thus far. (Meaning that if we lose interest in the first sentence, you're screwed)
I have reworded some of the sections and added a quick character description for Rayne the youwarkee and Rose CherryBlossom the dragoness. (See Fantasy Option 3)
I have added to the requirement section.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 9, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 1000
- Final notes: There were only three entries that fit the bill (so to speak) here and here they are. In how much Rose and I thought they were worthy of trophies. Synnamin Spyder won gold mostly because the lovely little write fit so perfectly for Rose's persona, Rose CherryBlossom. The other two fit mostly because of lack of appropriate entries, sad to say, but they were still a lot better than I (at least) had hopes. Stay tuned for the next on-set of contest!

you didn't address the # of entries issue I don't think.
-
Perfect... the devil is at my door.
Wow... there's a lot to choose from. Tough decisions. Let's see what I can do. -
It's still a rough draft. We're not finished writing it up yet.
-
Check back for updates. This is still a rough draft.
-
What a great contest! Best damn one I've seen in ages!
-
Really?
Well, I'd advise you to enter it then! We can always use an enthusiastic entry!
-
I'll definitely have to enter this. I'll brainstorm.
-
Hope to see you soon.
-
Hope to read something from you soon then!
-
Interesting *grinz* but then I wouldn't expect anything less from either of you
currently brain dead but if I can think of anything before this thing finishes.. I may well enter... just got to make some choices and whatever.. *rubs eyes* I'm telling you... helping family members move is NOT conducive to good sleep patterns.. for now though I'll just promote this one *laughs*

I loved the way you cut to the chase right in the beginning and then went on to the explanations
Elbow grease and brain matter eh?
a cute way to get a point across without being belligerant and hopefully all contestants submitted worthy entries. I doubt that I will the time to conjure up something , however I do wish you to get what you are looking for.......happy judging

-
very good idea for a contest! i have this bookmarked and will be reading entries for sure
as for entering myself i may not have time this week... too many job interviews but ya never know
best of luck! -
Hope to see an entry from you soon.
-
How kind of you. I would have done it myself, but I'm a little short on points for such things. I hope I'll se an entry from you though.
-
Hm..well, I hope you do find the time and if not, I suppose it can't be helped.
-
Thanx
An easy way to go about it is to figure out which genre you like best and then randomly select a number. In contests like this, I like using a die and saying 1-2 is option 1, 3-4 is option 2, and 5-6 is option 3. That always works out pretty well when I can't make up my mind. Hurry up and come back with a living brain! -
Thanx
I certainly hope you'll find the time to enter something. We are accepting poems as well as stories and stories in poem format. Pretty much anything goes here just as long as it's understandable and all that. Oh, and it does, of course, have to follow the rules. PLEASE do come back and enter!
-
Thanx
Perhaps you'll have time after all your job interveiws? I certainly hope so! Any entry is greatly appreciated and duly read and critiqued. Both in our own ways.
Come back and enter soon!
-
This is very interesting, I hope to read some of the stories from these people later
and I'l leave a basket of explosive muffins for all to enjoy also!
-
Not into this, but I am sure you will get some good entries. Thanks for putitng on these contests for the writers. Give us something to sterive for.
-
Doesn't sound like a bad contest. I might join if I have time.
-
Hope we'll see an entry from you.
-
For fantasy option 1, is the charecter description one of a charecter that you have created yourself? I know it sounds stupid, but i just wanna check....
-
Thanx
We look forward to seeing what you may come up with. Please do return and post a write. -
Hmm...
Fantasy option one is completely up to you. The only thing is that the character (whatever he/she/it may be) must be made by you and only you. No help from anyone else. This said creation can't come from anyone else, in other words. Please do enter! -
DARN i have a perfect prewrite for the Romeo n Juliet idea grrr. grumbles away to self alright ... I'll see what I can do off the top of me head then
-
I hope you can come up with something.
-
Hm..
I shall extend the contest if you really want more time.
-
Oh, it's sad that that's the only reason I won...but thank you.
-
I thought your entry was great. It's just sad that we didn't get more entries.
