OK, so here's the deal. I love wolves. I think they're the coolest wild animals on the planet. And I'm in the mood to reading some poems about them.
Sounds simple enough right? There is one catch... all entries must be written according to the rules of a specific poetic form:
I'll be the first to admit I don't know what all the different forms are, but I love to learn. To help, here is a column which describes many poetic forms: allpoetry.com/Column/1425198 . To help me out, I'm asking that you choose one of the forms listed in this column for your poem. Don't worry, there are many many forms listed. Feel free to challenge yourself with one of the more difficult ones, or write one according to a form with which you are already familiar.
Rules:
1) No erotica. I'm just not in the mood, even if it may relate to the topic.
2) No StIcKy CaPs or ALL CAPS. I just don't see the necessity for this type of typing.
3) Please spell check your work. It may mean the difference between winning and losing. Yes, I will check spelling. I'd really like you to do a grammar check, but I know that AP doesn't have a grammar check, so I'll let that slide to some extent.
4) Please write in your author box what type of poem you have written, even if it is blatantly obvious. This accomplishes two things... One, for those who don't know, they now know what type of poem you have written; and two, I will know that you've read my rules! YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE OF THE FORMS LISTED IN THE COLUMN ABOVE. Thanks!
Good luck! I look forward to seeing what you can come up with!
Prizes:
1st Place -- 300 points
2nd Place -- 150 points
3rd Place -- 75 points
Honorable Mentions -- 25 points
*UPDATE:
First Place -- He Howls (6 Cinquains) by lordoftherings
Second Place -- Winter by SliptheFlitch
Third Place -- Not Well-Done by Leave a Message

So, is free verse an exceptable form for your contest. I like wolves, too....but, am not in the mood to write end-rhymed poetry right now. Neat contest idea though.
-
Beautiful picture! If i was a member, I would post it on my entry. But i gotta say. I loved this contest. ( re-reads contest )
Hmmm, Do you allow more than one entry per person? I love wolves myself. And you have put me into a howling mood
-
Hm. Is freeverse considered a form for you? I have this really great one but it's in freeverse.
-Arias' Son -
Free Verse would be acceptable. It is, indeed, a type of poem. I'm not necessarily looking for a rhyming poem. Cinquains, Haiku, and Senryu, for example are not necessarily rhyming poems.
Thanks! -
You may enter as many poems as you like. Thanks!
-
I have updated my instructions to include a link to a column on recognized forms of poetry. Please check it out. I am now limiting entries to one of those forms listed in the column, but don't worry... free verse is listed, as well as many many others! I have included this column for the benefit of those who may not be familiar with all the forms available. Also, if you want to be challenged, try and write one of the more difficult ones! Good luck!

oppps I entered a prewrite but other than being a rhyming poem it isn't written in any specific technicle form I will have to remove it I love wolves, I own a wolf or actually she is part of my pack. I have many commitments as far as writes if I am able to I will write a poem in a form for this contest

My best guess would be 'couplet'. Go ahead and enter, and call it a couplet. That works for me!
-
My entry was just written on my page so was submitted as a prewrite but you can see that it was only posted today just a few minutes after reading the link you had about poetry styles. I just thought I'd jump in and get my feet wet.
-
Thank you for taking the challenge!
-
Oh! I suppose I should list that as well! First went to
He Howls (6 Cinquains) by lordoftherings

Awesome!!!
Looks like I missed out on a fun contest here. I'm sure there will be plenty more to come. I find myself roaming that contest page with the wolves,
hungrily searching for something that will inspire me to devour it up and proudly carry home the gold one of these times. Even if that never occurs, the thrill of the hunt will keep me coming back for more. Awesome contest you held here.
