OK so I have this idea from a friend of mine CloudOnMyTongue who is a fan of Sylvia Plath and she is running a contest inspired by her,
The Contest
Anyways I want this contest to be all about Pablo Neruda, I mean if you haven’t read his poetry go and do please, he was just breath taking, he was some sort of a dark poet, with a love twist , thus he definitely created some of the most outstanding pieces, for some love poets like myself, well this contest all that I will accept is Poems inspired by his work, yeah so anyone can enter WRONG!!! You will have to justify why you enter or you will be automatically disqualified if you don’t, don’t be surprised if I just delete an entry, also this will be a good time for my friends Poesia en Español to show off, since most of the people in that group are fans of him, or at least aware of his talent, Please enter you will impress me indeed with a Spanish Neruda kind of poem. As a matter fact anyone that enters a well written piece in Spanish with a Neruda Style will definitely impress me, and of course if you are not in the group you will be asked to join
The Rules
No sticky caps, No chat talking, No cussing is so not right for this one,
Please even though English is not my mother tongue I love good English so spell check will be more than necessary.
Only Polished Material I want to read only what you think is the best of you.
Please make your write between 25 and 40 lines long.
Also please in author box write what poem you think inspired you to write and create the piece you will be entering, don’t try to fool me, I have a good sense of his poetry…. And if you don’t like to write anything in the author box because you think is personal, send me an IM
Anyways Comment on me
and if you can comment on him, here in Oldpoetry in his Page
Awards Depending on the quality will be the awards, I’ll start with 300… and go from there.
July 25th UPDATE:
I've been having a few problems to log into AP and other websites from my PC, so please bear with me and I appreciate sincerly your patience in regards to closing this contest. Please be sure that all entries are being read and they will be commented upon. Thankies...
~ JuanPa

Oh man, how cool is this. I love Pablo Neruda, I didn't think anyone else liked him enough to make a contest, this is awesome! But sadly, I don't know if I can write something that does him justice. I shall try, but I don't know...I hope this gets lots of entries, as such a writer deserves them
-
Oh, I have been waiting for this and was thinking of holding the exact same contest - good for you!! I love his work...so I will definately be here. There is only one Pablo Neruda! I have done a few Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton and E E Cummings emulations...so why not Neruda (although I think my style is a little like this, lol). I do hope you get many entries, because I know quite a few Neruda fans here on AP. Best wishes!

Hey Juan,
I was familiar with a poem of his without knowing it was his lol. Then Leslie showed it to me and I realized. So anyway, I think I would enjoy doing something based on that one. I'll have to ask her the title cos I don't remember it
Anyway, I hope I can come up with something, I look forward to the challenge.

Dear Juanito,
Amigos,

I am working on something...have about 10 lines now and a concept, but still not satisfied with it. But I will be here - just because I love Neruda's work!!
-
Sonnet XVII is by far my favourite at this moment in time. I don't think I would be able to write something befitting such a writer. But I'll definitely look into it... Fantastic idea for a contest.
-
Sonnet XVII is my favourite too and especially since I saw the movie "Patch Adams"! We can only try to follow in Neruda's footsteps....
-
I thought this one had ended already but I see it hasn't, I will definitely have to come back and write for it before it closes tomorrow.
-
Aaaah I see it is still open (or open again?), maybe I can write another one
-
Sorry haven't been to fast to get back at all the comments posted but sure Nicolette, it would be a cool thing to have another of your awesome writes among this contest
-
Yeah..
If I can be poetic while judging my own contest too!! Best wishes ~
-
This is a great contest. Pablo Neruda is one of my favorite poets. I wish I could write something for this contest. If only I have seen this earlier. Right now, I am so brain dead... it has been almost 48 hours that I haven't slept. Anyway, best wishes to judging the contest. Cheers! Eris
