Alright, everyone. This is my third contest, and the only one I've done without a collaboration with someone. So I might go crazy. Eh, doubtful.
Anyone listen to Eighteen Visions? They're a pretty nifty band from California. I guess if you're interested, you could go to purevolume and look them up.
Yes, there is a point to the previous paragraph. The first song on their new album is called "Obsession." The song consists mostly of these three words: "Obsession. Desire. Depression."
These are your choices for this contest.
* Obsession. Pretty self-explanatory. Just don't make it seem unbelievable... I'm looking for a sort of realism. So nothing like "I'm obsessed with my gel pen because it's metallic and shiny."
* Desire. I don't mean desire for something stupid. Like a new Playstation 2 game. I'm talking true, immense longing. An actual desire for something (or, even better, someone).
* Depression. This category could become tricky, because I will not consider your poem if you include self-mutilation. Sorry. I hate hearing about people cutting themselves and how "fucking great" it feels.
Here are your rules.
I'm judging this contest as fairly as possible. If you look on my author's page, you'll see that I read many peoples' poetry - they're all on my friends list. I will NOT be biased in my decision. I just thought I should clear that up.
One entry per person.
Prewrites are allowed, but I will look upon them with a more harsh eye than I would something original.
Please don't make yourself look like an idiot by entering something that is full of grammatical mistakes and typos. Spell check is there for a reason.
If you think I'm going to be nice, please second guess yourself. I will be very blunt about your work. If you do not like criticism, I highly and strongly suggest you do not enter my contest.
For the love of God, nothing that needs to be put into the "erotica" category. I am not eighteen (hah, give me a couple of months) so I can't read any of that hogwash, nor do I want to.
Profanity is welcomed and slightly encouraged.
If you use sticky caps, I will report you to the authorities immediately for being a dumbass.
You certainly don't have to comment on any one else's poetry in the contest. However, I'm a sucker for suck-ups.
Let's end the rules with this. In your author's comments (when you post your poem) you should add this phrase. "Love never wanted me." <-- this is another line from the song Obsession. This rule is necessary because otherwise I'll never know whether you took the time to read the rules or not.
Anyone who fails to follow any of the previous rules will be disqalified.
Alright, any questions and you should think about IMing me on here or on AIM. Jenzjunior. Please don't hesitate to make me look stupid if I forgot to leave something out.
1st place - 900 points.
2nd place - 300 points (this is what most people dish out to first place winners. pfft, what losers.)
3rd place - whatever I can manage to gather from now until the contest ends.
There will be honorable mentions only if I have points for them.
Hugs, not drugs. <3, enjoy, and have fun.
Update.
What the fuck. This contest is worth a whole lot of points. I need more people to enter. So tell your friends.
Another update.
I've done away with the "more than one trophy and you're a loser and can't enter" rule. So tell all your friends. Because I want more people... *sniffle*...
Updating again.
I've extended this contest, so it will now end on the 26th.

well, I have a question. You said that if you had 2 or more trophies from this contest you are prohibited, no matter what the color. But the only possible way that can make the playing field uneven is by entering a prewrite that has already won a trophy. And that severly narrows down the possible number of entries. But, if we enter an original poem, we have a good a chance as anybody. I don't mean to be arguementitive of the rules, I was just wondering if you could clarify that.
-
I'm not sure I understand your question.
I thought I had been clear about that, but I thank you for trying to straighten anything out.
I will add that to my rules - any poem that has already won a trophy of any kind will be invalid in this contest. Hell, you've already won with that poem once - why try again?
Sure, it narrows the possible entries, but this is the fairest way I know to do this.
If I've interpreted your question incorrectly, please don't hesitate to ask again.
Thank you and good luck,
-Jen -
Eighteen Visions is a good band, so it's cool that you would have a cointest based on the first 3 words from the cd, lol. You should get some good entries. I'd enter myself but I have 5 trohpies, sooo...Oh well, still a cool concept for the contest, good luck.

Haha, terribly sorry. Thank you for your praise, though.

Hey there! I'd enter, but I have 2 trophies (somehow). So poopy. Oh well.. I think it'd be cool to try this one though. Good luck with the contest and all. Judge fairly!! Lol.. just kidding.
PEACE,
Carolyn -
Lol, I should've have made that stupid rule.
I don't have any entries.
Well, I have like five.
And I can't promote.
Ughhhh.
<3 ttyl

I've now done away with my rule about Two or more trophies.. anyone can enter, no matter how many trophies they have.
So you might want to think about entering, mmmkay? haha.
<3 peace.
-Jen -
I'm replying to make sure you know I've edited my contest so that anyone with any amount of trophies can enter...
so enter, please and thank you!
-Jen -
ooooo.. you changed the rule?? Hmmm....
I may try this one..
Carolyn
PEACE -
Well now I just might have to enter...Hmmm, now to find what I am obsessed with...
-
Yes, now I can enter this...
i'm so excited,

OK, with my entry, Dancer, you need to read Moonchildren, Searching, and You Haunt Me Still, to understand the obsession. It's a continuing theme in my poetry that the narrator of these poems is obsessed and haunted by what he calls 'moonchildren'(unicorns). There are also mentions in other poems like Leaping, but it's not necesary you read them. All the poems are interlocked and apply to 1 and 2 extremely. I'm sorry for the inconvenance, I was going to enter them all and see if you'd catch on, but we're only allowed to enter 1.

Nice contest. I actually saw Eighteen Visions and met them. Cool guys. Great contest.
-
Yeah, they're pretty amazing live. I saw them last year. They played a show in my area about a week or so ago. I was pretty upset that I missed it
Thanks for your comment.

-Jen -
Thank you for explaining that to me; it is not an inconvenience at all. The inconvenience is my limiting you to only one entry.
