Rhyming Rumble Part I ( A three part contest)

This contest is part I of a three part series. I will close this contest after 30 + entries, 20 entries will go on to part II, and from part II 10 entries will move on to the 3rd and final round.
Do not enter unless you plan to participate in all three rounds if chosen to move on. Ideally you have the opportunity to win three trophies throughout this contest.

*** Just a little side note since there seems to be some questions with the contest title. This is NOT a contest for rap poetry, although certainly rap poetry can be entered into it as it is rhymed poetry. As I said, you pick the presentation***

Rules:
1. Poetry must be rhyming poetry ( and please, no forced rhyme)
2. Cursing must be kept to a minimum and only if important to the poem
3. No STIcKy CAps or chat lingo
4. No cutting or suicide

That's about it, you pick the subject and presentation although I will warn you I'm not much for dark poetry unless very well written.
This is not a rule but posting comments on other contestants poetry is always appreciated as well as replying to my poetry...but it won't get you brownie points

Points:

1st place 300 points and a beautiful Gold trophy
2nd place 100 points and a nice Silver trophy
3rd place 50 points and an OK Bronze trophy

Best wishes
Ruth

***As I was closing the contest there was another entry that I felt worthy of moving on so Jecks will be joining round two of the contest ***

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on July 20, 2005
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
WOW!!!! In no way was the judging of this contest easy. There were 38 entries in all, 2 of which removed their entry before the close of the contest. As, I said I would do, from that number I picked 20 which was not an easy task. These 20 people will go on to round two:

    In no particular order

    raspberry
    shewolfnative
    I-LIKE-RHYMES
    Amunet Wolfbane
    Storic
    Pamela A Lamppa
    sithlelisa
    Storm So Rare
    Mystical-Gardenia
    Blazing White Wolf
    Jaden
    ecrivain01
    thelordreigns
    michele_la_pointe
    Legend
    Aashik
    phattkat
    flatlander
    Gregor Samsa
    Samplette

From these 20 I narrowed it down to my favorites of those. I really had a hard time picking the final 3 and did also pick 3 honorable mentions who will get 35 points each.

1st place Ghosts That Walk Behind by Storic
2nd place Your Slums' My Home by Legend
3rd place The Flowers Of Levant by Jaden

    Honorable mentions:
Pencil Slender Fingers by Storm So Rare
    Inside The Hourglass by sithlelisa
    War Games by michele_la_pointe

The field was a tough one so I want to thank all for their entries and congratulations to all who advanced

Maria...you will need to enter a poem for each contest if picked to move on. This contest is closed to prewrites but I will probably allow prewrites in the next two once the field is narrowed down.
    Thanks

A multi-level contest seems like an interesting idea. "Those were different times, when poets studied rules of verse, and ladies rolled their eyes."
