Most people know by now that October 2005 is the 200th anniversary of the death of Nelson at Trafalgar. I would like to see a poem about either
Horatio Nelson OR The Battle of Trafalgar
I do not want to see
a ) Swearing or cursing
b ) Text talk
c ) Emoticons or other non verbal distractions eg oDd capiTAls.
d ) Consistent bad spelling. We all make occasional mistakes but try to get it right.
This is a contest for good poetry not stories, columns etc. It is not necessary to write comments on my work or anyone else's though it wouldn't do any harm.
I will try to comment on everyone's work within 24 hours but no promises. It may take longer.
I prefer rhyme, rhythm and form but all good poetry will be considered.
I will be the sole judge and will be awarding 300 points for first place and other points, as I see fit, for meritorious efforts. Trophies as appropriate.
I will delete any work I consider inappropriate.
Maximum 3 entries per person.
If anything isn't clear send me an IM.

best of luck with your contest, I would enter but know nothing about either of the premises the contest is based on. I would research and tinker something up but ive been busy with probably legal battles and of course keeping up with the class
posting lessons, answering questions and of course the whole disaster with having to take people in and temp live here with my folks. oiy! lots o drama. read my journal to find out if you want lol.
anyways i would research and enter but alas and struck for time
much love and success. if you need
or have any questions let me know
even an unbiased extra eye for contest merit

I have a poem about Nelson and Trafalgar, but it's a previously published poem, although it's never been on this site. Is that allowable?
-

Dear Jim,
I have just returned to AP from sick-bay ('flu) and am delighted to find that my ballad was awarded a Gold Trophy.
While thanking you for this and the points, I want to thank you especially for hosting this contest on such a worthy subject which I enjoyed, while in bed, researching again and writing about. It further inspired me to write a companion ballad on his much maligned and neglected mistress which I posted this morning: allpoetry.com/poem/1409662
I am hoping, with others, to persuade Kevin to include a 'History' category on this site so that we don't have to list such poems as "other".
Congratulations to the other winners and to all who entered.
Regards and best wishes, Hugh Wyles.
