Heart For Sale
~Ruth Kephart~
Look here at this bargain
It’s sure a super buy!
You won’t find a better deal
No matter how you try!
There have been few owners
She kept it in a shell
Well preserved and shielded,
Though not protected well.
Please ignore the footprints
It’s been walked upon.
Don’t let that fact distract you
It’s a steal, so please come on!
Don’t mind the imperfections
What’s a scar or two?
It’s been used and abused
But it could work for you!
Hey, it still has life in it!
Though it’s battered and it’s torn.
And if you wear it, oh, just right
You won’t notice that it’s worn.
Come and see this heart for sale
Be you rich or poor.
I’m sure to make a deal you’ll like
She don’t need it any more.
For this contest I'm offering up one heart, slightly used, for sale to the highest bidder Write me a poem telling me why you should become the next owner. Don't mind the imperfections, it still has some life left in it.
1st place 350 points and a shinny gold trophy
2nd place 100 points and a a shinny silver trophy
3rd place 50 points and an OK bronze trophy
The rules are simple:
1. No chat language or sticky caps
2. Keep cursing to a minimum and only if needed to enhance the poem
3. No prewrites as I doubt you have any that will apply anyway
4. I'm not sure how erotica would apply to this subject, but if you feel you need to write it, mark it so
5. Not a requirement, but it is always nice to see contestants replying to other entries in the contest
A special thank you to Topaz135 for giving the points for first place!
(Just to clarify an issue that has come up several times now...women, please do enter too. I'm not out to find a boyfriend...this contest was meant as a general contest and I'd like to see a variety of entries from both men and women and also a range from humorous to serious )
That's it...best of luck and let the bidding/writing begin

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on July 7, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 350
- Final notes: I want to sincerly thank everyone for your entry in this contest. I'm suprised at the number of serious poems I received in response to this. There was not one poem in the bunch that was not well written. You certainly made judging hard. I want you all to know I take my contests very serious as well as the entries that I get in them. Every poem is read several times and each word is savored

A worn heart is like an old pair of shoes....comfortable
Who wants to have to break one in ey? This is cute however since I'm a woman, I don't think I'll bid but I hope you get lots of entries and find the right owner for this magnificent heart
