Self explanatory. If there are entries of sufficient quantity and quality, I may contact contestants with view to book or magazine publication.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 2, 2005
- Rewards: Gold: 750
- Final notes: Honourable mentions to (In no order):
The Berlin Wall,
Forest Life
Great American Philosophers
Will you help me smile again
Siberia
This contest attracted 26 entries.
A number, apart from any merit they might have as either poetry or politival statements, disqualified themselves as being irrelevant to the subject of the contest.
A number of others were obscure. I liked Great American Philosophers and forest Life much better after the authors explained them to me and would have awarded them, along with the others honourably mentioned, prizes if I had had more prizes. However, I believe poetry should be communication. In a number of cases it was difficult to work out what was going on, or what point the authors were trying to make.
One aim of the contest I set is to encourage poets to write about something other than themselves and their own states of mind. I am glad this contest drew such a big response and thank you all for entering.

ahh, i love politics, just entered a prewrite commentary for the hell of it, but others who come to this contest page who are generally interested in political poetry, i got some stuff for you to check out. when i was a moderator, i ran a series of site sponsored contests called "state your case" i think i did 4 of them, all political topics, and all drew some very good poetry. so if you want some inspiration (no stealing damnit
) we have lots of poets here who have written good stuff on various angles of global political situations. go to my page, and click on my contests, and look for "state your case" contests. even bad politicians are making an effort to 'write' the worlds wrongs
good luck with this contest folks.
