Space

"Space"

The only good poems about space flight I know are two by the Queensland poet David Rowbotham, "The vision of von Braun," and "The First Man to Die in space" as well as a few by Poul Anderson which I published in the journal "Amity" a few moons ago. I find it extraordinary there is so little good space poetry and I hope this contest with do something to rectify this.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 27, 2005
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
This was a very difficult contest to judge. It produced some very fine poetry, although not quite along the lines I expected, and a short-list of five which it was very difficult to choose between (including the poem "Hail Columbia," which I would likr to have had an award for. The very high quality of most of the work was very encouraginmg to me in my efforts to get poets to write about something other than their own states of mind. Thank you, everyone who participated and found themselves in the contest at the end. It was a very worthwhile experience to discover how much fine poetic talent is "out there"!

Dear Anakin, I have checked my notes. Second prize in the "Space" contest went to a poem "Void", but for some reason both it and the trophy have been removed, presumably by the contestant. May the force be with you.
