Easier Said than Done

~~ INTRODUCTION ~~

Thanks to each and everyone of you that even so much as look at this contest.  Now, for those of you that are actually going to read this and actually follow the rules and are actually going to enter something here that is at least remotely pertaining to this contest, this is for you.  If you aren't going to do all of that above, have fun DQing and all that stuff.  I'm rather strict with my contest-running, but that doesn't mean I don't make exceptions...for polite, understanding peoples that convince me.

Here's the line up for this contest:

1. ( ) Introduction
2. ( ) Options and ( ) Listings
3. ( ) Requirements
4. ( ) Rules
5. ( ) Later Additions

~~ OPTIONS and LISTINGS ~~

Options are your choices.  Chose at least one of these to put into your write.  All information for your Options and Listings must be present either at the beginning or end of your write to be entered for points.  You can put in as many as you please, but if it makes the story/poem make absolutely no sense, then it's DQ'd.  Remember the basics before you decide on your option(s) and listing(s).  Meaning make sure it's what this contest is for.

I am accepting stories only.  If you have a poem with a storyline to it (aka an epic or whatever) then you can post it, but you'll need to change it to a story before you can do so.  Also: you must explain to me why you put it here.  Whether you do this by IMing me, putting it in your comment box or leave me a comment below, that's your choice.

1. FANTASY. Write a story about the whole knights in shining armor and dragons and all that stuff.  It doesn't have to be right out of the Sword and the Stone or whatever, but along those lines, please.

2. ROMANCE. Write a story about the whole Romeo and Juliet theme sort.  I want them to love each other enough that they are willing to die for each other.  They don't have to die, but they have to love each other enough to do so.

3. SUDDEN CHANGE. Write a story that's extremely interesting.  Make it down right mind-gripping.  Now put something in it that throws the reader for a loop.  You know, like someone butting in all of a sudden as if breaking the way the whole story was going.

4. HUMOR.  I want something funny for this one (obviously).  It must be funny enough to make me smile/laugh.  NO erotic or anything derogatory. I don't like it.

5. SCARY.  Write something that is really freaky.  I want something that you would never tell a 10 year old.  BUT...it must not have erotica in it, nor anything extremely gory or whatever.

6. CHOOSE.  Write something that uses at least three of the following things in it.  Mention them in passing or whatever, but they must be exactly as they are here..color (if applicable) included.
a] Applesauce--any sort, but it must be in a bowl.  About 5" in diameter.
b] Butterfinger--the fun size kind.  Wrapper included.  Any variety works, but it must be a Butterfinger.
c] Cattle--the actual animals.  I want a whole herd of steel head cattle.  About 300+
d] Diary--the girly-girl sort.  Any one works, but it must have a silver lock and key and be written (at least a little) in.
e] England--yes, the actual country.  Anywhere is good, just as long as you say it's in England (and I don't want you to make it up, unless it really really does sound like it's from there)
f] Fork--a simple metal dinner fork.  You know, the ones that come with practically everything...Denny's food, pizza...hot dogs...
g] Goose--a big female sort with fluffy white feathers and black beak and feet.  About 3 feet tall...I think.
h] Hindenburg--the actual blimp thingy.  It can the be actual thing or a picture or whatever, but it must be the Hindenburg blimp, not something like the Good Year blimp!
i] Instant Pudding--The entire package.  Box, packet and all.  Basically the Jello box of instant pudding you find in practically every convenience store and grocery store.
j] Jumper Cables--Those long black rubbery things that you jump a car with.  A little rusty.
k] Kite--basic diamond-shaped fighter kite.  Must be either red, yellow or blue with short tail of whatever color.
  l] Lollipop--Cherry flavored.
m] Map of Mars--Actual geographical map...you know showing mountain ranges and everything.
n] New York--yes, the actual City.  Anywhere therein is good, but be sure to keep the street directions somewhat understandable if you use them.
o] Oliver Twist Poster--The musical version poster...basic white poster with lots of people on it dancing and singing.
  p] Penguin--The big ones...Emperor?
  q] Quintet--a set of five musicians.  A harp, a cello, a fiddle, a bass and a banjo.
r] Rabbit--Buster Bunny, to be exact.  You may choose Babs Bunny instead.
s] Snake Skin Carpeting--wall to wall carpeting of snake skins.  Entire building...any snake.
t] Tinsel--silvery stuff put on X-Mas Trees.  Enough for about 10 trees...4' x 3' box full ought to do it.
u] Unicorn--Real horse colors and physic.  No wings.  Silver/gold/black horn: 1.3 feet in length.
v] Vampire--does not die in sun-light.  Not blood-crazed.  Not white skinned.  Cannot change into a bat.  Must be clothed at all times.
  w] Wombat--funny koala-like creature from Tasmania...grey in color.
x] X-Ray Pictures--you know, the ones that show your bones and stuff.
y] Youwarkee--humanistic character with large feathery wings.  Basically like an angel, but mundane in every aspect accept wings (some will know a spell or two, but not powerful ones).
z] Zebra--the black and white horsey-like character.  Must be a healthy one...unless you make it pregnant, in which case, it must be well taken care of as well.

7. IM me for a request of one of the followings:
a] The first line to a story you are to write.  (Please state the genre if you want something specific)
b] The first paragraph to a story you are to write. (Please state the genre if you want something specific)
c] The basics for a character you are to write about. (Please request a gender and species if you want something a little more specific)
d] The description of the opening scene without character(s) (Please state the genre if you want something specific)
e] The title to a story you are to write about.
f] The link to a write you are to answer/rewrite.
g] The outline of a situation you must write about. (Please request a genre if you want something specific)

~~ REQUIREMENTS ~~

I would love for you to do these things below, but they aren't required, but hey, selfish publicizing and such things...  That means you won't get disqualified for not doing these things, but I figured, it's free publicizing of certain things, so why not?

1. Read and comment on one of my running series, __Rayne, Child of a Thousand Years__ __Magician Chronicles__
2. Read and comment on any one of my own or the contestant(s) other writes.
3. Donate points to me.  This will just make this contest have more points (given to Silver and Bronze)
4. Apply to my group, "Masters and Mistresses of Writing"  (It's listed under the group type "Organization."  Here's the link: http://allpoetry.com/Application/1065209
5. Request a pre-judging critique (only available during certain times of day/night, and not available during the last 24 hours of this contest.

~~ RULES ~~

These are a must.  If you don't follow these, you are going to get disqualified.  That's that.  I have these for a reason and if writers didn't give me reasons to have rules, then there wouldn't be any rules, but there are, so live with it.  However, you MUST NOT DO RULE NUMBER NINE.  I put that there to see if you've actually read my contest.

1. Adult Language and Context.  This is a big no-no.  Don't do it.
2. All information as to the option you selected and what of the listings you chose must be in the comment box.
3. Grammaticks.  You must have a sense of spelling and grammar.  If you don't reading your work will be much to difficult to me and I shall skip it and go to something easier on my eyes.
4. Sticky Caps.  I haven't the slightest understanding to why someone uses this stuff and I don't like it.  It's hard enough to read have the things anyway, I don't want more trial than need be for it.
5. Comment Box.  You must use it in some fashion or another.
6. Prewrites are allowed at this moment.  I may not be allowing them later on if I receive too many of them.  Anyone that posts a prewrite may later be removed on my own descretions.  I will not be notifying anyone if I do this.
7. Negative and/or Non-Building Comments.  I don't like mean comments or whatever you want to call it.  If you leave a note via IM or commentary, then you're DQ'd.  I will not deal with people that are rude or what have you.  That means to myself or on other entries to this contest.  I don't deal well AT ALL with negativity.
8. Anything over PG-18 will be DQ'd unless it is really really really good.  That means if it were in a movie or some such and someone that is 18 wasn't allowed in alone, it's not acceptable unless it's really really really good.  Also, cursing must be kept at a minimal.
9. Write "Apple, peaches, pears and plums.  Tell me when your birthday comes." in your comment box.
10. All stories are allowed as long as they fit the stuff above and are somewhat understandable.  I don't mean that I want something a first grader could read, but not something that seems to be either hyper-college or rocket scientist based either.
11. Proof of Reading.  Write whatever you want, but say that you have read all the rules.  Place this in your comment box, please. You MUST do this.
12. No abstract, non-story based works.  This is a "story" contest for a reason.  Because I want a story.  You can write poetry all you want, but it must have a story line.
13. *YOUR ENTRY MUST HAVE WHAT OPTION AND LISTING YOU CHOSE.  IF YOU DON'T PUT THIS IN YOUR COMMENT BOX, YOU WILL BE DQ'D AND I'LL REMOVE YOUR WORK THE MOMENT I READ IT.*

~~ LATER ADDITIONS ~~
At this time, there are no later additions.  However, it is your responsibility to check back to see if there are any later on.  If you all ready posted prior to the alteration, then you will be exempt from the alteration provided I do not personally IM you otherwise.

Enjoy, have fun and all of that stuff...but most importantly, may I gain many a write of great value and worth and may I have such a hard time deciding the top three that everyone gets points because of it!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 28, 2005
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
Basically, I gave each of you a score on you work. I copy-pasted most stories so that I could read them on my breaks at work. That is the main reason why the comments I posted (also written up and then pasted into the comment box) may seem a little off. Also, I would like to thank all of you that followed ALL the rules. For those of you that didn't? Well, you don't get any of the loot. That's how I run my contests. Besides...it puts you anywhere between ten to thirty down in my 100 point scale and that's impossible to make up!

    Anyway, here's the listings:

At 98% is "Dark and Blue Twilights"
An intriguing biographical work of one of the most amazing characters I've ever discovered!

At 92% "The Chills of that mid-September mist"
A strange and twisted biography section that may explain some of the bizarre things going through the writer's head.

    At 88% "The Darkness"
A strange way to explain how someone can turn insane over a certain amount of time. Creepy.

    At 87% "Our Last Kiss"
A great story based off of a song. The only story I've read thus far that put me close to tears.

At 87% "Wish Upon A Star"
A shorter work than was expected at first, but a marvelous display of love and writer's consciousness.

At 87% "Beloved I of II"
A dark and twisted tale that can leave the reader awake for days.

At 85% "Beloved II of II"
A dark and twisted tale that can leave the reader awake for days. Slightly less so than the first part.

    At 79% "Snakes & Rabbits"
Sick and twisted. Only those that have no qualms of mistreatment of animals and irreponsiblity ought to read it.

At 76% "Of Anger and Accusations"
It would be far better if it was finished and run through with a little more background and descriptions on everything expect the main character.

At 70% "Curtis The Dragon And Princess Alexandria"
A quickly made story that needs a lot of descriptive work.

At 70% "The Adventures of Mr. Duck"
    Not a child's tale.

At 67% "The Thing About Norman"
A story of pie and a joke that just can't be told with Norman/Tom.

So there you go, that's your ranking if you erased my comment on your work. Otherwise, check out the more in-depth work I've done on your actual write. Oh yes, and stay tuned for the next contest.

I was a little confused by the wording of this rule:
    2. All information as to the option you selected and what of the listings you chose must be in the comment box.
I just pasted the option and your description into the comment box. If I need to do something else, would you please IM me? Thanks

P.S. I don't know if I'll have time to read your work, so I'm going to donate some points for the contest. Hope that's okay

Basically, I'm just asking that you tell me what option you picked and (if a listing is available) what one of those you took as well. More or less just so I know you actually read the option and everything.

Oh yes, and donating or whatever is greatly appreciated...I'm not too greatly concerned about others focusing on actually reading my/other peoples stuff. I am, however, certain some people will. Good luck.

Ahhh, now I see what you meant by listings. Options 6 and 7 are new since I entered, I believe. By the way, very cute idea making the choices for option 6 every letter of the alphabet

OK, just for you, I'm going to try to finish a story that I was going to type up a while ago and enter it in here. It'll be a lot like the one you read about Rose though. I hope that'll be acceptable.
