Well, here I am again with another contest, though I'm going to take it from a whole other side, that's right, you've seen the pic...
I want poems about CHRISTIANITY!

You see, I am an atheist, but I'm so tired about all these stupid discussions about who is right and who is wrong concerning religion, everyone has his own opinion, FULL STOP!
It's of no use to bash and hate each other because he/she thinks in another way. It's not because some thoughts of someone aren't the same as yours, that those people are hostile!
I just want to prove something here:
As being a non-believer, I am completely open to hear somebody elses point of view!
It's not because I am an atheist, that I don't want to learn to know something completely new for me, a religion.
I chose for christianity, because it is I who host this contest, together with a wonderful friend, meesa p (who is a true and devoted Christian) so the judging will be fair.
I am obviously new on this subject, and meesa will back me up if there are things that are confusing for me. she will also look if the things you are writing are right in there.
I WILL NOT TOLERATE BASHING WHATSOEVER
--> IMMEDIATE DQ
RULES
1
Everyone is allowed to enter only once. You should be able to let me know as much as possible in one poem. Off course, don't make it extremely long, try to stay under 50 lines please.
2
No sticky caps and no chat talk! it's very hard for me to read that since English isn't my maternal language. If I see an entry like this, I won't read it!
Besides, I don't see why anyone wants to use them because they ruin the poem.
3
NO BASHING!!!!!! If you can't tell me about Christianity, DON'T ENTER!
I'll try to read each new entry rightaway, but I will comment on them while judging, then everything is fresher in the mind.
poems that are the most descriptive in the least words are seen as potential winners, so give me as much aspects about Christianity as possible, in the least lines
I'll decide together with Mel and obviously I'll ask her favourites, they know ALL about Christianity, so she knows which poem will learn me the most.
Points
1st place: 350 points and gold
2nd place: 150 points and silver
3rd place: 50 points and bronze
There will be honorable mentions, don't know how much, it depends on how good and enlightening your poems are.
oh yeah, another little note
If you happen to believe something else then Christianity, I'm sorry you can't enter this one. I have to draw the line somewhere.
If you don't understand this and want to nag about it and accuse me of discrimination: grow up! If there is a contest where you can only write acrostics, I see no-one nagging because he can only write cinquain! if there is a contest going on to write about tulips, no-one will be nagging neither because he wants to write about roses.
I hope you see where I'm heading at with this note...
And if you don't see: for my part you can go and pee on a bleu rock!
WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST OF LUCK!

This a great contest idea but wouldn't it work better if you asked non-christians to write a positive poem about christianity? That way, people will try to walk in someone else's shoes and they might actually learn something. Christinas already know they love God but many people seem to have something against them (go figure). Maybe if you tried my idea, you could change some negative opinions and it would be a real challenge that would generate tolerance towards Christianity. Personally, i'm not christian but I hate it when people don't try to understand different points of view.
Just a suggestion. You can completely ignore it if you want.
-
well, it's not that I don't like your suggestion, but I feel like learning more about Christianity
. I know almost nothing about it, and I hope to have an almost perfect sight on this religion after this contest
Thanks for the comments
Leander -
I am a christain and I will enter this contest. I am glad to have found it and also glad to help enlighten a person on christianity. I will enter as soon as I can
-
This is a cool contest idea and I'll certainly try to enter. The only thing I would suggest is that you're careful about "learning Christianity" from poems. There are many Christians with confused or just plain wrong ideas about how things work, after all, we're only human. Just a word of caution. I know from personal experience that some of the most-welling meaning Christians are the best at turning others away. Just my two cents
. Anywho...I hope you get lots of great entries. Your attitude towards Christianity is, I must say, rather refreshing. Best wishes and God bless, Sim.
-
Did you do a contest for Christianity some time ago? I have either read your work, or I have entered your contest before.
This is a worthy contest. I am very much a Christian, but I feel strongly that you have a right not to believe. Since we are all capable of free will, my Lord will allow us all to make our own decisions.
I look forward to entering your wonderful contest. Although I will certainly not preach to you, I will treasure the honor or speaking of my Lord with you. Hugs, Patricia -
Richard Dawkins had this to say:
"Society bends over backward to be accommodating to religious sensibilities but not to other kinds of sensibilities. If I say something offensive to religious people, I'll be universally censured, including by many atheists. But if I say something insulting about Democrats or Republicans or the Green Party, one is allowed to get away with that. Hiding behind the smoke screen of untouchability is something religions have been allowed to get away with for too long."
The constant use of this cliche phrase, "No 'bashing' of Christianity/God/Religion" is ridiculous. ANYTHING critical of religion is perceived as "bashing", even if it has merits, even if it isn't vulgar, and even if it isn't intended to offend, in almost every case I have encountered. Religious beliefs are somehow put on as demanding some innate and obligatory respect from everyone, as if every opinion and every belief is absolutely above criticism or condemnation, or even isn't dismissable as downright silly. Nobody would take a cult of people who believed in mystical faeries seriously, but if there were a billion of them and they had political power, they just might. In fact, we might even broadcast their cult leader's demise on the news for a month. Bah. Enjoy your contest.

there's not a right or wrong to religion, no matter what any christian or someone from any other religion tries to tell me. i just hate when anyone, of any religion, tells me i'm wrong in my beliefs, which aren't anything, in case you're wondering. i don't go around telling people they're wrong. i expect the same courtesy showed back is all. believe in what you want, and i hope it all turns out to be true in the end.
-
This is a great contest idea. As a fellow atheist, I completely agree with you; I get talked down to all the time by Christians because they think that no atheist is respectful of religion. Kudos.
-
did you see the bleu rock over there?
-
I hope you do not really expect to know all about Chrisianity after judging this contest. It is complex and no one really understands all of it. An as Simbelmyne said, take anything you read here with a grain of salt, including those comments from the other side. If you really want to know about Chrisianity, either talk to a friend you admire and respect and like the way they live their lives. That is how you tell true Christians: by the daily lives. As they say, "If you want to talk the talk, walk the walk." Simply stated, practice what you preach. And the extremists are not all on the Chrisian side. There are as many damaging statements by atheists as there are Christians. Good luck and God bless.
-
did you happen to see where i wasn't at all critizing the fact that i can't enter because i'm not a christian, only agreeing with your statement that people shouldn't fight over who's right and wrong? apparently not. good luck on your conversion. you're pigheaded and arrogant. being a christian will suit you just fine.
-
This is wonderful...I hope that through the entries you feel His Spirit and can see the Truth He brings.
Best wishes judging.

Oh for christ's sake. It is just a contest, and even here begins the harping of people. From where comes this urge to insist that others hear their voice? Insecurity in oneself, I imagine...Gahhh, when does it end? lol
'Tis a great contest simply in order to read these comments...

that first guys post is hilarious! -
This is nothing more than another christian-only contest. The owner claims to be an atheist. But he wants to hear only pro-christian poems, and he is in alliance with one MessaP who is well known to argue with non-christians, but completely discard any arguments made against her… The two of them wouldn’t get a long unless he was a christian, witch I suspect he is. I think this is nothing more then a pitiful attempt to make some atheists and people of other religions to read some pro-christian stuff so that you could save them.
Any poem that was written to show chrisianity in its true colors is always considered BASHING. Check allpoetry.com/Poem/1147809 this is the one MessaP tried to argue under and later deleted all the posts she made. -
Glacian please be on your way. I do not care to argue with you any further or hear anymore of your deragatory comments. Please be adviced that all comments from you will be removed this is a peaceful contest to help someone who desires to learn something about Christianty. It is his and I am collaborating with him. If you do like this contest or how it's run then there are plenty more for you to choose from. There us nothing for you to argue here. As leander said if you ran across a poem for roses would complain because you couldn't enter a poem about carnations. No you wouldn't you would just search for a contest where you can enter your carnation poem.
-
This is nothing more than another christian-only contest.
You are CORRECT this is a Christian only contest!
The owner claims to be an atheist. But he wants to hear only pro-christian poems, and he is in alliance with one MessaP who is well known to argue with non-christians, but completely discard any arguments made against her:
Can you please describe to me exactly what your definition of well known is. Mine would be that: the majority of the people that know this person. In that case the majority of the people who know me, know me as a faithful Christian, who is true to her faith.
I did not disregard any arguments made against me... I did not agree with them. Just as you do not agree with me. So in that case usually two people choose to agree to disagree which I have so graciously tried to do and here you are again.
The two of them wouldn’t get a long unless he was a christian, witch I suspect he is:
I will disregard this the comment. This is a direct attack against my integrity as a human being. God says to love everybody and I do. I do not discriminate against anyone. If you have a kind heart, are a loving and compassionate person who cares about the welfare of other people than I generally do not have a problem with you and leander fits that bill a hundred times over. He is a wonderful, kindhearted and caring soul and that is all that matters to me.
I think this is nothing more then a pitiful attempt to make some atheists and people of other religions to read some pro-christian stuff so that you could save them:
To prove that I do not disregard what is said to me I will tell you (and I speak only for myself) that you are correct and yes it is my hope that maybe a non-believer or two may run across this contest and be saved. That is the work of a Christian and every Christian starts somewhere. I would be honored if God did His work through me.
Any poem that was written to show chrisianity in its true colors is always considered BASHING:
Any poem written that shows the true colors of Christianty praises the glory of the Lord and couldn't possibly be considered as BASHING!
Check allpoetry.com/Poem/1147809 this is the one MessaP tried to argue under and later deleted all the posts she made:
Again, you are correct. I did remove all my comments from your poem. I will not deny that. But, not because you don't believe, but because things got out of control with another another member. And I did not try to argue under anything. I was the contest runner and judged the poem in the light I saw it in. It was you and that other memember who chose to continue to argue with me when I told you I did not care to hear the words that you said against God and my Faith. So as I asked you in that contest can we now please agree to disagree since I addressed every issue you presented here and dicarded nothing! It is plainly obvious tha tyou are not going to convince me and I am not going to convince you so, May God Bless you in all that you do!
Mees♥p -
Well, after reading the entries, I have decided to comment on the contest. I admire you for being brave enough to make this kind of contest. I also admire you for being willing to openly listen to other views. You say that you do not believe yet are open minded enough to consider things. You are a wise man. You are in my prayers.
The rest of this comment is to meesa p. Hun, remember, we do not fight against flesh and blood. Do not get discouraged and do not fall into that trap. Take your stand in the spirit world where it makes a difference. Also know that you are not alone. You are in my prayers that God will help you and lead you through this contest. I am praying for your strength. I did not intend to enter this one. Only to read. But, as you know that choice is not always ours to make. Let's just stand together in prayer. God Bless You, Penny -
Leander, Dear, you truly are a brave one. I agree wholeheartedly with Penny that you are to be admired for being open-minded enough to ask for another's point of view.
Unfortunately, Christianity has raised much controversy, and Christians are deeply hated by some, just as the Jewish were during the time of Hitler. Thankfully, no one is driving us into gas chambers disguised as shower rooms.
Thank you for holding this contest. I, myself, appreciate that you are holding it. If you had asked for only athiests or Jews, I'd leave it alone since I cannot honestly give an opinion either way.
I will, of course, try to enter your contest. To attempt to explain Christianity in fifty lines or less may be a difficult task. Hugs, Patricia ♥ -
Claiming? lol you are so funny it just keeps on surprising me there are still people that narrow-minded as you are!
I DECIDE HERE what I want, and since Meesa P is a wonderful friend of me I met here on AP, (and there are many other Christians) I figured out why not!
As being an atheist I've never had an arguement with her, neither someone else. okay, I admit, if someone tries to explain that being gay and stuff is a true sin to god and falderaldera, then you can count me in for a discussion, but meesa never said this, neither other friends I met here. in fact, I once read a religion based poem, bashing gay like they were less then sh°t, but then again, I could count on Meesa and let me see that this person would rather be a homophobe then a believer.
If you can't handle the fact that I, as an atheist want to start this contest about Christianity because it's interesting to me to hear someone elses opinion, then you have a big problem.
what about this
ME: ooooooooooooooh, my favourite animal is an ant
YOU: oh, mine is an elephant
and then you go
lets start argueing because I am always right
you really sound pathetic you know, you aren't able to come into someone elses opinion? yeah, no-one is perfect.
AM I GLAD I KNOW THE FEELING OF EMPATHY!!!!!!!!
Edited on Apr 12, 2:09 because ''. -
I just visited your Author's page
I have a good friend in real life who is a Witch, and she knows I'm here on AP, and euhm... she isn't complaining at all what I write or what I think, so why do you then?
'It's all about personality' she says... I'm a witch, I have my belief, you're an atheist, but you're open to hear other people point of view. that's why we became friends'
just wanted to say this -
Thank-you PennyB for your supportive and encouraging words and I appreciate your prayers. They are more than welcome, as I will keep all of your words in mind and look to Christ for guidance to keep from getting discouraged. I must remember that talking about Christ and spreading His Word causes a reaction in both ways. Satan fights to keep souls from fighting Christ.
's thanks for the reminder!
-
Thank-you for your wonderful comment and your caution is very well intended as what you speak is the truth. That is why I am helping leander with this contest. I am a Christian, albeit very far from perfect and having perfect knowledge. I do Faith that God will work through me to help me help leander with this contest, as that is where all the knowledge comes from. God and His word and I do pray that He will help me lead leander into learning not hindering.
-
Thank-you very much for your advice. You are correct and Christianity can be very complex that is why I am helping leander with this contest. I am a Christian. I do not believe in bashing other people because of what they believe in even if I feel they are wrong it is not my place. I am not the Creator so therefore I am not the judge. I like to take people as they come and know that I am just a lowly humbled human being trying to follow the path of Christ in the best way possible, as you are correct and there are just as many damaging statements by Christians as any other people that is why I try to learn all that I can in order to find out how to draw people in not push them away. Again, you are also correct and the best way to know a true Christian is by how they live their daily lives. Even then you still have to be catious because satan can be very decieving as well. I have learned that the hard way. So there you have your original statement of the complexity of Christianity. Thank-you for your insight.
-
I wonder why everytime that someone opens a contest to Christians only, so many negatives comments come along. I don't see the same happening to Witches, Vampires, Cabana Boys and Girls, Dark and Suicide contests. If you like it OK, if not, the way out is a click away.
I was born and grew up into a Christian family, we are Romans Catholic. Haven't been an active Catholic for long time though, still I keep my faith while respecting others as well.
Here is a poem I wrote about what faith means TO ME.
Where to find back the faith I had once,
Lost in despair of all sorrow and pain.
Tears of sadness are shed in its absence.
Precious years in life waste in grievance.
The echo of my pleas resounds in vain.
Where to find back the faith I had once?
Intensive search for this wanted credence,
unhappiness smiles with a grin of disdain.
Tears of sadness are shed in its absence.
My heart bleeds and cries in dark silence,
Yearning to see the existential light again.
Where to find back the faith I had once?
A strong need to regain my soul's balance
To be freed of this faithless chain.
Tears of sadness are shed in its absence.
Praying each day to feel its comforting presence,
To a heavenly wind take away this cloud of bane.
Where to find back the faith I had once?
Tears of sadness are shed in its absence.
Great contest you have here guys!
Kisses,
Mari

I am not going to argue over a contest with you or messa under this page as Messa will either delete my post or delete her reply because she will get emotionally evolved.
leander call me narrow-minded all you want. You are the one claiming to be an atheist who is making a contest of who can praise jesus better… How open-mined are you to call your contest “Learn me ALL about Christianity” and restrict it to 10% of what christianity is. Don’t you want to hear ALL about it? Such as where it came from and what it did for 1700 years before becoming the religion of peace and love. Of endless crusades against evil in the world, that continue even today.
Good luck with the contest though.
-
thanks for sharing your wonderful poem on the subject sweety
I was just wondering, why do you think we're all gays
refers to the last line
-
Vashen, you are correct when it comes to Christ I get very emotionally involved. I owe Him my life for what He has done for me. This contest is for Christians only who believe in the Christianity derived from Christ, the son of God. How could there be a Christianity before there was even a Christ? Christianity is the glorification of the One who died on the cross for our salvation. You can either choose to believe that (the Word of God) or believe the word of man. As I have already told you that is your choice. And we as Christians get blamed for trying to shove our Spirituality down the throat of the non-believer. I see it the other way around. I do not visit Non-Christian contests and tell them how wrong I think they are for not allowing Christians because it is their right to do and feel as they wish. I have only gotten into one other disagreement before this with you and Glacian and I should have learned my lesson then. But I now see these are all learning experiences and I would like to thank-you because you have taught me something.
I wondered how God could possibly be using you in my life and I have my answer now. He has shown me what false prophecy is so when the false prophets arrive I won't be duped by them. Thank-you God for this newfound knowledge for the glory all belongs to you. And in the name of Jesus Christ I pray that we have a peaceful contest from here on out.

it is really well done

Ooo, now here's an interesting contest! I dont suppose a poem on the value of the Bible as a literary piece would be accepted, eh?
Honestly though, this is a wonderful, wonderful idea for a contest. It'll be interesting to see the different interpretations of Christianity by Christians themselves. Question: Do all denominations count? Catholics, Protestants, etc?
glee! I cant wait to see how this turns out! -
Yes, all denominations of Christianty count. That is part of learning about Christianty is learning the different denominations and their beliefs.
-
Hi, by the way we say TEACH me not learn me, lol, all the best with your comp, and God bless
-
As i've just read all the comments. This is one contest i wont be entering or reading any of the entries. Its sad when only one group of people is allowed to enter a contest but its your choice. Goodluck on judging.
Fallen -
That's your decision, thanks for not bashing here...
though I went looking to your page, and saw the one contest you submitted: I'm not good in writing stories, so I wouldn't enter neither...but I wasn't whining over there
-
Hey
I remember when you tried this a while ago and everyone was bashing you. Even though I grew up with no religion in my life I know better than to insult someone elses is choice or choice to learn. I think this is a great learning experience and that if people would fast forward to the year 2005 that the world would be in a better place right now. Good luck and dont let anyone else get you down.

The correct grammar is 'teach me'
You're off to a great start with "learn me"
Improper southern grammar goes a long
way when you're selling out to the lord. -
Do you not realize that there are people on the site from other countries? You're getting off to a good start with the ignorance that has over taken this society where people have nothing better to do then come and bash other people; and believe they have a right to do so as well. Nice to know that you are ready to show someone in another country how stereotypical people in the USA can be. And how presumptious as well, as if we are the only people in the World. lol! That surely does welcome the people from other countries to come on here. Only to find people here to mock them for their language.
I do thank-you however for your display of ignorance because you show a true example of how Christianity works. You see leander and I may not have the same belief but he is not close minded and arrogant. I can accept him because he is a kind hearted, caring human being. He has a beautiful Spirit. The same as with his language. He is also not from the same country as I am so I didn't find it within my right to tell him to how speak either. I really did not believe that someone would really have the audacity to come and down him for him. This site is open to everyone.
May God Bless You in everything you do! -
And how is what you just said any different if not worse?
At least I took the time to teach them the difference.
While you merely assume, judge, stereotype, and do
exactly what all Christians do 'point the finger'.
I think you need a hug, to go with your cheap double talk.
What I did was not bashing, what you replied with was bashing
Isn't that IRONIC, another typical Christian trait, projecting.
(Along with crap grammar). -
well excuse me mister perfect that I made this mistake. I think it can be seen as normal that I don't have the ability to speak english as perfect as you (like you never made faults) but yeah, Dutch being maternal, French being second, English being third and German being fourth... I don't know... but I think it's good enough that I speak 4 languages, and three of them very fluently - even if there are some misstakes in.
As meesa said here: ignorance on top over there!
Let's turn it around then: I'd like you to chat with me in Dutch, my maternal language, let's see how good you'll do it. and by the way: it's a mistake, but euhm... you knew what I meant, didn't you? -
Besides, it's not like I was lying.
We all know "learn me" is a common
southern display of ignorance.
I never called anyone southern,
Or said that all southerners were ignorant
I only mentioned that it's quite common
there. Can you forgive me?
Jesus loves you, and wants you to forgive me. -
well, since I am from Belgium, and that's the Northern half of the world if I'm not mistaken, then I can only affirm that I didn't know, and that it is a common mistake over here too
-
You're off to a great start with "learn me"
Improper southern grammar goes a long
way when you're selling out to the lord.
Where in this statement is it teaching him the difference? If you were teaching him the difference then you would have displayed what the difference was with kindness not ended it with Improper southern grammar goes a long
way when you're selling out to the lord What does that teach? And you say this is not bashing someone else. You just bashed the entire southern region of the states for their language.
Where did I bash you? By using the word ignorance. That word only means a limited knowledge of a certain subject. Just as I am ignorant as to how someone can turn things around and actually believe what they say!lol! -
That's lovely, but don't you think you're slightly over-reacting?
You'd think for a European you'd be a bit more open minded.
I was merely correcting your grammar before anyone that
knows how to communicate well in English came along, and
thought you were retarded. You should be thanking me,
thinking back now, I should have left it alone. -
Actually, in my original comment's verdict, you'll
find the correction. re-affirming my original
intention of merely offering the proper grammar.
And the fact that most Christians are quick to cast
judgement without having really read anything.
Good one. -
Check mate.
-
thanking you? lol, I know that I make mistakes, and people who have a little bit of brains will see that English isn't my maternal (it's also on my author's page by the way that I'm not from an English speaking country) and you are in fact the first who comes with the word of being 'retarded' because my English isn't perfect!
know what, I'm proud that I make mistakes, cause I think it is normal... and maybe yeah, you should have left it alone... or maybe, you better thought before reacting -
I reply to the comments as they come in. I don't go back to double check and see if someone has already commented or not. If what you say is true then why did you come back to leave a negative comment. I believe this comment negates any previous comment you might have made. It was not necassary for you to come back again if you have already once commented. And who are you say what the proper grammar is for someone who does not speak English. Maybe in Brazil they say "learn me." As I said before it is stereotypical to just assume that because he said it the way he did that he's from the south. I know plenty of people in the South and they don't talk that way. Nothing I said was stereotypical.
I already know Jesus loves me. I don't need you tell me.
I'm saying good-bye now because I actually have a life and have other things to do besides sit here and argue with a kid. -
I'm hardly a kid, and my comment wasn't negative, unless you're
Southern, and you talk like that. How can selling out for the lord
be a bad thing? And no, they don't say 'learn me' in Brazil either.
I think the two of you are just looking for someone to lash out at. -
if you want to believe that, fine by me... if you want to play the victim from something you started: fine again...
don't care really, I'm just getting tired being picked at -
you're a fucking idiot mate.... if you were to correct his grammar the correct phrasing for someone who speaks english as a maternal language would be to correct his syntax ok?! so before having a go at Leander for a minor....have a look at your own. And why stereotype southerners? classing yourself above everyone are you? speak with received pronounciation do you?

No, actually, they're slightly different in the chain of command, but nice try.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syntax
www.dictionary.net/grammar
you will find that grammar is the more formal approach to applying syntax,
but in a sense we're both right. I'm just a gentleman while you're a cad. -
So, as we say down south, "let me learn you something!"

Thank you!
Leander and Meesa, I am so humbled that you felt What Can I Say was worthy of the silver trophy; which, by the way, is my favorite: God tries us in fire, much like a silversmith, until He can see Himself in us! Praise the Lord!
Also, congratulations to all the winners. You had some very fine entries!
Love and hugs, B♥nnieQ

Leander and Meesa, I have no idea what to say. God wrote the words for this poem. I am deeply honored by the win, and I appreciate your consideration. I truly hope that you find what you're searching for. God Bless you. Hugs, Patricia

Hate I missed this challenge. I hope you got something out of it leander. meesa p is a beautiful sister and friend. You had the big guns enter, and know they shared from their hearts. Great challenge here, what a great big, nonjudgemental heart you have.
Blessings & Love,
