THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED AND NO NEW ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 54 ENTRIES AND MY LIMIT WAS 50. ALL POEMS ENTERED BY 7AM CDT, INCLUDING THESE 54, ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PRIZES. SO PLEASE, NO MORE ENTIRES.
Hello,
My very first contest so there may potentially be some miscues by myself. I have been fortunate enough to have accumulated quite a few points and Now desire to give some back.
This contest is designed to provoke thought in my self. So what I am looking for are Short works that contain beautiful wisdom. This covers a lot of ground so there are few rules to worry about. I tend to love the shorter poems which contain such wisdom. So your entry should shoot for giving the reader much food for thought to fill their plate with, and then allow them to dine on the succulent morsels provided.
I tend to enjoy the spiritual side of life, so creating along those lines will certainly be a bonus. Give us your views on Intent, Ultimate Reality, Life, Love, Death, or whatever. As long as the entry is aesthetic and meaningful, it has a chance to win.
Trophy and Point Breakdown:
1st Place: Trophy and 700 points
2nd Place: Trophy and 200 points
3rd Place: Trophy and 100 points
4 Honorable Mentions: 25 points each.
I may also give out applause, depending on if the poem strikes me as being quite good.
This contest will Close on April 4th or after 50 Entries, which ever comes first.
Rules:
None, really. I prefer the poems to be NO MORE than 20 lines long, and the shorter the better. I am looking for quality above quantity. That being said, if the poem does go longer, and if I find it to be quite enthralling, then it will not be disqualified.
Commenting on other entries, or my own poems, is not necessary. It is a great way, however, to get to know your neighbors and to experience other styles and talent!
Pre-writes are allowed, but only 1 per person.
That's it! I will comment on each entry, although do not expect to much critiquing on my part. It is my feeling that each person's poetry is special to that person, and therefore who am I to critique it? I may point out areas where I think a poem can be improved, but that will be on a case by case analysis.
Peace!
Doug
UPDATE!!! Okay, I have already made my first mistake! Due to misunderstanding how these contests work, I am now awarding 700 Points to First Place!
2nd will still receive 200 and 3rd will still receive 100.
Since this contest is filling up so fast, I have also decided to wait either until April 4th or the first 50 entries, rather than 25 entries.
__________
Final Results:
Here are the results of my "judging" of this contest. My thanks goes out to ALL entries. Truly, it is a difficult task to judge amongst so many wonderful poems. As this was my first contest, I found it to be highly exciting and fun.
1st Place- Gold Trophy- ONE Perfection by ToltecWarrior
allpoetry.com/Poem/1153431
A remarkably wonderful poem that filled me with great pleasure
and Awe.
2nd Place- Silver Trophy- Beginnings by The Messenger
allpoetry.com/Poem/1151077
A little bit longer than I was looking for, but that does not
take away from this masterful mysterious voyage of truth.
3rd Place- Bronze Trophy- Blaming Eve by Mandaean
allpoetry.com/Poem/1158440
Perhaps one of the shortest poems in history, being only 4
words long, but to me, this little ditty carried a powerful
message regarding the myths many of our religions are based
upon. Simply put, I loved it.
Honorable Mentions- 25 Points Each.
1) Who Is Closest To God? by Aspasia77
allpoetry.com/Poem/1165656
2) Eyes of Soul by Lyrical Soul
allpoetry.com/Poem/1151113
3) War - Who's Fighting? by Sau
allpoetry.com/Poem/1032031
4) War (a triolet) by Pinhead
allpoetry.com/Poem/980069
I also gave out applauses to 8 other poems, all of which moved me
in certain ways. Ideally, one could give something to all entries.
In closing, I dearly wanted to choose ToltecWarrior's poem,
Oh, little child of mine, allpoetry.com/Poem/1150440 as
a winner of a trophy or honorable mention. I did not choose it
simply to avoid the semblance of favoritism or bias. I do highly
commend this poem, however, and also highly recommend it.
Again, THANK YOU to all who entered. It has been a wonderful experience...
Peace

I'll write something new for this. I don't want to enter anything you already commented on. Great contest!!!
Toltec Warrior -
Thank you so much, Doug, for your invitation. I am honored and will certainly come up with something fresh in the next few days. I wish you the very best in your first contest. Oh, and Congratulations! The first is always the most memorable. Hugs, Patricia ♥

Such a great Idea! I had to enter a prewrite AND an origional.
Peace,Rob -
Great contest idea. I just entered with one I wrote last night. I entered it as a new poem instead of as a contest poem and then didn't have time to delete it....so it says prewrite but it's actually a new poem. Hope you enjoy. Looking forward to reading other entries.

I don't think I have any poems good enough to enter into this contest. But I hope I will find the time to try to write one. I like your idea, and the whole contest looks great.
-
Even though my poem will be listed as a prewrite, it is actually an original cinquain placed into an old slot I wasn't using and written specifically for this contest. I don't know if you (or anyone else) will understand it. I'm not even sure that I understand this poem yet. lol
But, I hope you gain something from reading it as I have from writing. Your contest had interesting subject matter, so I decided to give it a try.
Thanks for the inspiration, and I hope that you have a wonderful turnout.
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora

No worries, Eternal! As it states, either prewrites or new ones are allowed. It is good to know that this contest did inspire something new, however!

I like this challenge so much that it inspired me to write a poem which I decided to add tonight as a pre-write. Great contest man, I hope these folks have you reading for days. LOL Good luck judging.
