Welcome
This is my first contest and I've been busy trying to get enough points to hold one.
I've always believed that poetry should stir some emotion in the human psyche. It should move the reader in some way. It can make them cry, make them laugh, make them angry, make them want to reevaluate their lives, or just make them want to step back and say "WOW". So, this contest is simple enough...move me with your words.
Points:
1st place: 300 points
2nd place: 150 points
3rd place: 75 points
Honorable mentions may also be awarded a small sum of points depending on the number of points I have left at the end of the contest.
Rules (don't you hate them?)
1. No sticky caps
2. Try to refrain from the use of foul language (if you use the F word, it better add to the poem)
3. No poems about rape, cutting, suicide
4. You must read and comment on at least one of my poems and at least one of the poems in the contest. I will check on this.
5. Rhyme is great, but no forced rhyme. Have fun with it!
That's about it, you pick the subject and the format and wow me
Good luck and I'll see you at judging
Ruth
ONE MORE FINAL NOTE:
I tried to add this with the final note, but wasn't allowed by the system. I'd like to add one final award to this contest. This is a very special award for a young budding poet who has a great deal of talent for her age. So, without ado, I'd like to present this final award.
Best Budding Talent Award - 30 points : A Mother by HappyJess
Please everyone, read her poem and share in my congratulations for a job well done by her

I'm closing this contest as of 11:15 AM on 2/24/05 to prewrites as all the entries thus far have been prewites. To those of you who have already submitted prewrites, you are still entered and it will not be held against you in the judging. Thank you for your entries and best of luck in the contest

Thanks for the invite and since you know have closed it to prewrites I will be forced to get my muse to think of something. Seems I just missed it also. Well, I will try to come up with something but most of my calibre stuff has already been written until my muse decides to wake up again...and I never know when that will happen. gregg

Since I haven't had the response I'd liked to have seen with this contest, I'm opening it back up to prewrites for the final hours. Thank you all for submitting and good luck

thk you for judging that as quick as you did. i really respect your responsibilty. even if i didnt win anything, no biggie. i so respect you for that. ive had poems sit in closed contests for weeks and its so annoying and frustrating. personally i think ppl who do that shouldnt b allowed to have contests or should at least be penalized the points they are given to have them.
you are very kind.

Thank you, Ruth, for giving me second place for the poem about my mother. I didn't expect it, so am really thrilled especially as my computer has been playing silly devils for the past six days, so I came back on line to this really good piece of news. I hope you will accept that I've put you on my favourites list, because I happen to rate your poetry very highly. Coulnd't say that once I'd entered for the contest though. Ain't quite the thing, is it?
