I was struggling too much in the end to judge this by myself so I enlisted the help of three other judges...Thank you Wattle...Unbridled1 and Topaz135...you were so generous with your time and effort in going through the entries and choosing your final few....I chose the winner because it was high on each judges list...second and third had an equal number of mentions by the judges but one edged the other slightly on placings and comments.....and honourable mention was hot on their tails!....thank you for all the wonderful entries...I can honestly say the standard of entries was superb....leanne xxxx

AP is generous to me as well as being very restoring for my soul. This is a very good example as to why. Leanne Wales, who has more trophies than Michael Jordan writes with ease and in a style that embraces, comforts as well socially comments- more often than not laced with humour and a touch of self deprecation. It also makes her a very good judge as she reads a great deal of poetry on this site and to be judged worthy of gold among this lot is indeed something to be proud of. This is obviously the second gold I have received from Leanne and the two entries probably could not be more different. Yet if you read them, strangely they are the flip side to the same feeling. This was written in under three minutes straight onto the site and was structured not as a sonnet. It was only when I reread it did it read nine syllables per line (which is not the right meter for a sonnet but in this case it seems to give that slightly off kilter effect) and the thing rhymes, albeit oddly like a sonnet. I am proud of the poem, what it says and I am glad it connected with so many people, particularly Leanne. Every writer on this site appreciates comments and I am no exception so thanks to all those who have commented on this piece. Congrats to the other winners and honorable mentions and by the high standard this could not have been an easy decision which makes this all the more pleasing. This was an exceptionally run comp and thank you Leanne again for all your efforts- particularly as it was run in conjunction with a short story comp. The next time you see that happen will probably coincide with the return of Halley’s comet. Thanks again
