MuseStalker’s Fifth Contest
(in collaboration with klassy lassy)

I have been reading a book entitled "In the Palm of Your Hand: The Poet’s Portable Workshop" (and I highly recommend it – contains a vast amount of some of the best poetry I’ve ever read.) Anyway, it has made me more aware of the "process of writing".

That’s what klassy lassy and I want to see in this contest – poems about the process of writing poetry. So,…

WRITE ABOUT either:

  1. Writing poetry; or

  2. What inspires you;

  3. Or write a poem that "watches itself as it forms"

Okay…now for the dreaded ELIGIBILITY RULES:

  1. New writes only unless you think you have "the perfect" pre-write. (If you do and you want to enter it, you must contact me via IM – FIRST. Give me a link to the poem and I’ll decide whether or not it can be posted.)

  2. One entry per poet.

  3. Spelling and grammar errors will probably cause you to lose, so please use care.

  4. I do not tolerate "chat speak", sticky caps, or any similar abuse of the English language.

  5. Erotica is permissible, if it’s in line with the "theme".

  6. Please put the number of the "theme" you choose in your author’s comments.

  7. You must read and comment on at least 5 (yes…FIVE!) other poems entered in the contest by someone else. [List the 5 poems you’ve read in your author’s comments. I will be checking this.]

NOTE: This contest will be closed on February 15, 2005 – OR after 35 entries are received. IM me if you have any questions. (klassy lassy will not respond to IMs except to direct you to me, so save yourself the time & trouble.)

POINTS, TROPHIES, AND LIKE THAT:

1st Place – Gold trophy, 300 pts., and 5 clicks in the "featured box" at 10 pts. per click

2nd Place – Silver trophy, 150 pts., and 5 clicks in the "featured box" at 10 pts. per click

3rd Place – Bronze trophy, 75 pts., and 5 clicks in the "featured box" at 10 pts. per click

That’s it, kiddles. Go forth and create beauty for me. And, thanks for entering.

PS – I will be judging this contest, so any gripes, complaints, or other crap needs to come my way. Do not pester klassy lassy. She was simply kind enough to donate her hard earned points to sponsor this contest, and give me help with the theme. Anyone who is rude to her will be turned into a frog immediately….(and not the cute kind either.)

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on February 17, 2005
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
This was a very difficult contest to judge. The poems entered in this were some of the best I've read on AP. In fact, for one of my long-time dear friends on AP, her entry is the best poetry I've known her to post on AP.

I was honored by the quality of the work, and the talent of the poets who submitted poems to this contest. I wish I'd had a dozen trophies to distribute; I'd have had worthy recipients for all of them. However, as I had much more limited choices to make, I did the best I could.

In addition to the trophies, I am awarding:

Honorable Mention: 25 points and 5 clicks in the "Featured Box" to Grazia for her wonderful poem "Ars Poetica (Prewrite)".

To all who participated, thank you for your excellent work. This was a joy for me, and I know klassy lassy feels the same.

O, dat guy. Well, consider the source, luv. He's posted 69 poems and 6 critiques. Evidently, he's critique-challenged. One shouldn't poke fun at the handicapped, Lisa-my-pet. Fer shame.

5 poems? This is in total contrast to the allpoetry unwritten law of 4 comments per poem posted. I urge you to resolve this problem before you attract attention from the poems/comment police. *hides behind pole and darts eyes left and right before scurrying off in near silence*

Hey! have a little TLC for Musestalker. She's doing all the work! I probably will comment just because I love poetry, but she understands poetry technique and imagery much better than I do. Enjoy!

I thoughroughly enjoyed writing for this contest. It was different to be so conscous of the poem at the time of inspiration, although I have done one similar before. Great idea!

Sometimes life is just a bevy of the most wonderous things and most unwonderous too....would you believe I went to check how this contest was doing and in my graceful ineptitude I deleted my entry?.. oh my my.. how humorous indeed...now I'd like to put it back but I can't put it back since it's 'pre-written' and I don't want to have to delete it along with all the comments it has...sigh... just to put it back...is there any way you can allow me to put it back?....and ..if not well...what's that old saying?... S... happens?....

Did you catch the subtle subliminal message in the repetition of 'put it back' .. in that last comment?...

I set the contest up to accept pre-writes, Lisa. It was a pain 'cause the "rich text" feature wouldn't let me edit. Had to get my "genius" son to help me get it working again. But, you should be okay now.

Thanks for the trophy, and congratulations to Nicolette, and shewolfnative. Great contest, it's been interesting to read the different perspectives people have when it comes to writing, or what they call the 'muse'..

I second Nicolette in thanks and in sympathy for the difficulty of this contest, the choices you made were perfect, and I think I would have chosen the same three poems.

Thanks for the points and the feature. Very much too much, but I'm flattered. Thanks so much,
    Grazia

    Accolades

I am so delighted with the turn out for MuseStalker's poetry contest, and think she did a terrific job in judging so many superb poems. I so enjoyed reading evey one of them and hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!
