I sometimes use a tool called AOW story starter for inspiration, basically it gives you some scenario's and characters etc and you work with what you are given.
I have spun the story starter 12 times (to give you all lots of choices) and they are all listed below, you must pick one of them and include EVERYTHING mentioned within your chosen section,.
I know it's quite a difficult challenge but the stakes are worth it I think at 1000 plus points.
The closing date will be continually extended until I have at least a dozen of what I consider to be worthwhile entries.
The winner will receive 1000 points, second place 250 points, third place 100 points,
RULES.
1)I doubt very much if you have a suitable prewrite, but if you do go ahead and enter it!!
2)it must be a story
3)you MUST tell me which number you chose in your notes, or it could get very confusing for me when I judge.
4)you must include EVERYTHING that is mentioned in your chosen section..you can also add as many other elements as you would like..as long as the ones in your choice take priority..
5)please use spell check.
6) I really don't mind what category you write under but please ensure that if it contains adult material that it is listed and posted appropriately...thank you!

Wow Leanne - that's quite a selection. I felt comfortble with No. 6 until I read the setting and that blew me away totally. lol. Your going to have your hands full with this one I think. Good Luck with it and to all who may enter.
~Vonnie~ -
Wow, I'm not man enough to attempt this- but I can't wait to read the entries you get... this should result in a very interesting mix indeed
Max -
I like this a lot. Lovely variety of choices from that. Yeah, the setting in six caught me off guard as well. I do hope that you get what you are looking for in this though, I think it should be interesting. Good luck and good luck to all who enter. Love always,
Kristen -
I liked number 11 maybe I'll write about that...
-
What's an archetype?
-
come on vonnie...you'd never let a little thing like an awkward setting stop you now would you?
-
an archetype...An original model or type after which other similar things are patterned; a prototype: “‘Frankenstein’ . . . ‘Dracula’ . . . ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ . . . the archetypes that have influenced all subsequent horror stories”....or other prototypes...e.g ...gods godess's...mythical creatures...your archetype is named for you in all of the selections...hope that was helpfull to you!!...hugs...leanne xxxxx
-
thank you kristen...why not have a go?
xx
-
aww go on max...i betcha can do it!
xx
-

I kind of like number two... but I dont know if I can think up a way to work in all the elements without it seeming random and pointless
Oh well, this contest looks so neat!
Great idea, good luck judging!
-
I read what you put down for an archetype, but could you give me a little bit more detail. I'm finding it hard to figure out exactly what I'm supposed to do with that.
Thanks.
Peace and Love,
Leah -
ok say for instance the archetype in your choice is the wicked witch...incorporate a wicked witch into the story...thats all it is...if your choice included say a sasquatch and your not sure what it is but want to use it...read up on them...it really isn't as complicated as it sounds...hope that helps...xxx
-
Oh, okay, I'm ditzy most of the time. Thank you. This contest is very interesting.
peace and love. -
lol...no problem...you're welcome xx
-
I have not written many stories, but a couple of these are intriguing. I may have to give this a closer look.
-
Oh wow a story - I'll have to see what I can invent
-
I look forward to seeing that mr. wattle! xxx
-
I shall await the result with great anticipation Susan!...xxx
-
hm, sounds interesting... I'll see what I can come up with, buit it's doubtful I'll get in done in time--I take forever to write stories. There's one on here that sounds particularly intriguing, except for the fact that I'd prefer to write it about morality, rather than completion. But hey, I'm sure I can come up with something that'll make it work out.
great contest idea and good luck to everyone!

Good ideas
It sounds great. I could probably do #6, if it weren't for the sewer part, lol, but I just might try. -
I look forward to seeing it christinamarie!...leanne xxx

Can we have it 1-12, if we can I will pace around my house and think of the best story ever, I'll try to do my best.

Edited on Jan 18 because ''. -
I just got an idea. I will enter in tomorrow, to see if you will let me do from 1-12, it's all one story. I'll try to make as good as I possibly can, and that's only if you let me. I'll be waiting for your approval.
-
well the rules state that you can add as many elements as you like so yes you can do that...as long as all the elements from at least one section are included
-
Alrighty then. This will be a masterpiece... I hope.
-
lol...i can't wait to see it!
-
Ooo, this is awesome. I'll have to force my poor, tired brain into doing this. Hmm...never heard of a "AOW story starter before."
-
very creative
i wonder.. my curiosity is overflowing... how did you group all this up? I cannot believe its random.. there's so much effort put in to make it interesting, and twists so that so its not an easy overused theme.. bravo!
I dont know whether i will be able to enter the contest because of time constraint.. its 5th today.. mm.. maybe i will give it a try!
its very inspiring -
a very interesting contest, i think. i believe i'll have a try at it! ..now, i'll just run of to write while i still have my inspiration at hand...
-
I look forward to reading your entry!
-
I know it's stupid to ask this close to the closing time, but I was wondering if you'd please extend it. I don't know if you're gonna close it tonight or not, but I'd really like to enter one. I was reading through your choices and I got inspired so I was wondering if you'd give me a chance to write a story for you. If you can't I understand. Thank you for reading my comment.

okay, i'm considering writing a story- but my curiosity is getting the better of me... when you say "firebird" do you mean a pontiac or a phoenix?
-
I love this idea. I am novice at story writing, but let's see what I can do.
-
What a wonderful set of ideas to work with! I know I'm too late to write something and enter into your challange, But I'm still going to try one of these just for the love of it. Thank you for the inspiration! And Good luck with picking your winners!

For those, like me, who are curious about the wining story for this contest.
It was allpoetry.com/poets/GoneWithFergus with her story allpoetry.com/Story/1078801 -- The story is really worth the read.
I’m not sure it was taken away from us, here.
