........................Allpoetry Image Guide............................
General Allpoetry Position:
Allpoetry will try to be as flexible as possible. We have many categories
to post Poetry as well as Images (and the combination). It is the position
of Allpoetry to accept as much as possible. There are some restrictions
though where the boundries are firm.
Please read the following disclaimer:
"Some Images may get through the scrutiny of the moderators for whatever
reason. Those are exceptions and do not imply a change of these
guidelines. Too many times community members say "well I've seen this
plenty of times". That, to Allpoetry, is really irrelevant. Those are
simply errors and are not meant to set precedence or change Allpoetry
posting guidelines. IE: Just because a police officer doesn't pull over a
speeding motorist, doesn't imply the speed limit has changed."
Detailed Allpoetry Guide is as follows:
graphic pornography - NO
sex- simulated or real - NO
NO genitals in a sexual act can be viewable etc.
nudity- nudity is OK. This has been re-thought and some more flexibility is now
available. Museums have lots of nudity.... master's paintings etc. That
kind of art is all ok. This includes genitalia (Michelangelo style etc). This does not include photographs/images of aroused genitalia etc. or adult magazine style images of female/male genitalia. More subtle nudity can go general audience and more obvious nudity should be classified "adult". We will be very flexible in the "adult category". That's what the adult category is for. Allpoetry retains the right to decline any and all images.
cutting/self harm/bloody razor blades/mutilation- NO
dead bodies-NO (except War Images... for the sake of history)
dead babies-NO
destruction of babies or their sacrifice etc. (knife overhead of them to sacrifice)-NO
dead animals or their sacrafice-NO
graphic self destruction and suicide acts-NO
ghoul and gore-OK
blood from vampires, their eyes, mouths etc.-OK (video games are worse)
Unusually disturbing images as determined by a moderator.
Images of marijuana-OK (not to sell it)
Images of needles in arm-NO (IE: drug use etc.)
"Advertising" of Drugs or ANYTHING else ILLEGAL-NO
AUTHOR PAGES - remain "G" to "PG" rated. This goes for image content as well as language content. A few curse words here and there is ok. However, a string of really foul words will need to be placed in the adult category and not the author page. Images of nipples are not within a these ratings as per Kevin and therefore cannot be placed in public view on your author page.
POETRY - A few curse words are fine (depending on the ones). Anything that becomes too graphic will be categorized as Adult.
Moderators will have the final say in the end. The Allpoetry site is a private site that retains final say in all matters. Calling moderators names and/or arguing with them etc. isn't going to make the site better or help you get "your way". Most times, they are simply telling the community what they must. If you have a problem with the rules, please post it on the Policy Board.
We have broadened Allpoetry's guidelines to the most liberal position we possibly can. Please respect this and do not push the limits beyond what we have now reached.
It will take some time for the moderators and community to begin to remember and understand these broader guidelines. So when there is an encounter between a moderator and a community member, both parties should remain professional and courteous.
FINALLY, ALLPOETRY RETAINS THE RIGHT TO ACCEPT OR DECLINE THE POSTING OF ANY AND ALL IMAGES.

Thank you Don for the clarifications. Hopefully they will be heeded. I did note however that you have unintentionally overlooked cartoons. Some can be very risque, but would I be correct that they would be classified in the general classification?
Thanks again, Don, Mysty and Kevin. -
I can't see why you would want to post the images that are banned - but there are some odd people out there! Thankss for taking the time to make this site a better place

It's nice to see that everyone took such time and care to think all these issues through and try to maintain one set of guidelines for everyone to follow so that some of the confusaion is alleviated. This makes me feel very proud to be part of a community that works together and really strives to do what's in the best interest of everyone. Thank you all for the clarifying the rules!

me love you long time

Excellently put! I love AP! I've had so much fun here, great learning environment and exchange of art, made some very cool friends and I just love the community. I've even shared some of the pictures{mermaids, fairies, Santa Claus, cakes, etc.} with kids 7-10. I think it's pretty neat around here and I would like to thank all the moderators, the site manager and everyone who is a part of the AP team for everything they are doing to get this going superbly! It is appreciated!!
Thanks once again,
Charishma -
Most of this seemed pretty redundant to me. Why anybody would want to be seen in any of these low-class lights is infinitely beyond me. But then again, I'm relatively prude and even my "adult items" are hardly more than resemblances of mere profanity. But in the sense of "Dead Bodies", I question how strict of a rule that is. Does something like a disembodied finger fall under that category as a catastrophic breach of lunacy allowed to run its muck all over Allpoetry?
-
good guidelines, shame i can't put up pics... i very much agree about pictures of a. dead things, b. suicide and especially c. self harm, pictures of self harm can haunt people, seeing serious self harm on people for real can mess with your mind... nudity... what can i say so long as it's adult its fine... other than that erm yeah.. i wish i could afford to be a paying member, keep up the good work AP you give me confidence in my work. louise.

thank you haikumonk, for this very informative article.......I do not envy any of you guys and the difficult task you have to take care of...: freda

I absolutely understand that you have to have guidelines. I think you are more than fair with those. I agree we have no right to complain, I had a picture removed once and never said a word about it. Its not my site but I enjoy my little corner.
Thank you for sharing thoughts on the matter Don. You rock.
Good luck

it's good to have a reminder or an awareness release.
very responsible of you to do this. excellent -
I have posted my poetry on many sites that don't even offer the luxury of posting images. The Bandwhich deal and all. This site is progressive, and it should be duly noted, AP is one of the very best on the internet. The thought of having an interactive community where art and artists are respected is more than commendable, it is extraordinary. Thank you for this information. This is the reason I am compelled to be a paying member.

Excellent
Some thing that needed telling and you have said it politely and simply. That is great. We poets are supposed to be intellectuals (or so I have heard)and we have to be responsible.

I think the images of people with like cuts on their arms etc...is a bit much. i mean..you can walk down the hall at school and see that, who really cares? But if it is a rule we need to follow it so we will. Thank you for stating them well..
~Rae~ -
I do appreciate this being cleared up. I, myself, saw something just awhile back that was utterly disgusting, and in my mind it would be considered X-rated. I hope everyone reads this. Hugs, Patricia
-
Great job on this Haikumonk. The guidelines on images I feel have needed to go deeper and be clarified for a long time now and I am glad it's finally here! I hope this explains things CLEARLY to those who try and argue with the Moderators.

I appreciate the explanations given and the foundation for them. I love this site and at times show some of the works to children. I've had to rerain from some showing some wonderful poetry due to language or visuals. I applaud you in your decisions.
~~~POO~~~ -
thanks.... I think your missing image may be due to file size... if it is too large it won't process or stick. Maybe that is it.
-
I think these guidlines seem very fair and I don't see how they would be hard to follow. I have to say I've seen much worse in every day life than I have seen here. Also, I have always found the site moderators very easy to work with. I know there is a complaint box on the bottom of each page so if something slips by that someone finds offensive and they didn't say anything than I guess that is there fault. You can also turn off Adult material at any age. If I've had a problem I have had very efficient and timely help. Some incidents have gone my way others not, but those are the breaks! I can not even begin to imagine trying to monitor over 55,000 poets. I also agree that the teens that come on and lie about their age is a parenting thing. Parents should be monitoring what their children are doing, not AP. I have a teen ager and expect that I should be watching what she is doing not everyone else. If someone wants to help that is a bonus but ultimately she is my responsiblity.
I do have one question, however, I have had some images that have disappeared and a white box with a red x replaced it. Does that mean it was removed by the site? -
You're right Genie... that's our position on it.
-
All very good geuidlines in my opinion. The adult category is good. There are under age users lying, that is true, but it is their parents place to know what they are doing online. Ap can't be an online babysitting service.
Best wishes and thanks for posting the info. ~genielassie~ -
Muchly impressed, and I like the layout. The thought of nudity is unnerving for some people, I for one, have no problem with it, but some people have a religious thing about it, maybe there should be a warning lable implied? But ya, thank you to all the people that make AllPoetry tick, I couldn't be anywhere near as happy without you all!
Boundaries and Guidelines are Important
It is nice to see some guidelines put into place. The moderators and others who volunteer are much appreciated and the task to moderate text and pictures surely must be daunting. Blessings prayed all y'all's way.
-
Thanks for the information. As a newbie, I find it very helpful.
Thank you Don!!! Putting this in featured was an excellent idea. Education is the best prevention!!!
Thanks for the clarification and such! Nice to know someones guarding the borders... It is sort of sad though, that people would be some of these things on a poetry website. I mean, destruction of babies? But thank you for your time, haikumonk!
-
Yeah.. these days museums, magazines...etc... all have lots of nudity... and different parts of the world....they are wide open! lol... so I hope this is a nice balance for everyone.
-
I applaud this explanatory article about the rules and guidelines. I must say that I have not had any real issues with anything as far as pics go...i have read a few poems that I found extremely outrageous xx-rated , but figured ' freedom of speech" and just left it be , and as far as the one statement above " no nudity at all" goodness National Geographic depicts some nudity
and most that i have seen on here has really been in good taste ,
thanks
Thank you for the rundown as to what is and is not accepted. I'm saddened that most of these pictures are viewed by children regardless of adult category status, however, I enjoy that you do your best, as a site, to protect those who many not know enough to protect themselves. This helps clarify what is and is not accepted.
-
Yeah... I understand... we've really tried hard to keep a balance at Allpoetry. I'm hoping that for the most part, those posts are in the adult category as needed and that "children" in general won't run across them. That is really a parenting situation though and not entirely on our back. I hope this guide works well. We put a lot of time... and headache into this.
Thanks for your feedback... Don Site Supervisor
I think that looks good. You may also want to mention that there are grey areas (x-rated vs. r-rated sex, for example, and "un-usually disturbing") and that, because of that, there might be some perceived unfairness, but that's tough.
I'm glad you mentioned that things do get through and that does not change something else being allowed or not.
-
I am glad that yall are censoring some-BUT I wish that NO nudity at all was allowed-There are kids on here that lie about their age and I guess that is their fault-but I wish no nudity was avaliable to see on this site-I have clicked on pages that I wish I hadn't and now I make sure to read the category before clicking. So thanks for putting some barriers I know it's hard to please everyone- some people are overly apathetic to this issue and sadly most are..
Yep... it's on the front page.... syndicated. Thanks.
-
Thank you for the update! I haven't checked yet...but it might not be a bad idea to put the link for this on the allpoetry front page for a week so that all members have the fairest opportunity to review it...or have it put in that message of the day section even. Just a thought...
Cool... it would be fun to add some art to my poetry (although God knows I can't draw
) Anyway, thanks, this is good, and I'll be sure to have a lot of fun with it! I'll star asap 9I think...)
-
Who on earth uses dead bodies, animals or babies? That's rather disturbing and sad
poor little children on this site won't know what had just hit them if they saw anything like that. I'm so glad I haven't come across anything like that yet but if I do i shall keep you informed
Love Kiara x -
There is no mention of that in the guide. We tried not to take a stand on that issue nor make it an issue within the guide.... but there will be no greater flexiblity for either side of that fence (so to speak). Moderators do have final say regarding all images though.... regardless of subject... they could theoretically turn down an image of a pine cone!...
They won't.... though....
-
informative
its all so clear now.....
i haven't had this problem as of yet~ but clicked on so i would know what the guidelines actually are....
-
I haven't yet seen a really objectible picture on the site but it's always good to have laid-down guidelines. There are all sorts of people - yeah, some who're fond of dead babies too (I accidentally came across such a site a few days ago and lord it was GROSS!!!)
As for me, I don't think I'm posting pictures anymore since I'll have a free account only. There's only one picture I posted, one of an affected child with minimal clothing to go with a poem on tsunami, but I do consider it totally aesthetic
Cheers and hope,
Mandy -
Thank you for clarifying AP's position in this matter. This is an often confusing issue that creates much of the disharmony on this site. I'll be bookmarking it and referring people to it (even though I'm not a Mod). Ultimately, it's up to the entire community to keep thing peaceful and harmonious around here.
A deep thank you to all the Mods, Supervisors and Managers who keep this site running smoothly and keep our community strong!
Good luck and God bless!
I hope there aren't any restrictions when it comes to same-sex images that only insinuate things.... are there?
Please and thank you. -
Our pleasure. Hope you enjoy the broader guidelines. I know we cannot accept everything, but this sure allows for typcial, traditional "art". Enjoy.
-
It happens all the time....lol... we routinely turn them down.... and, even I had posted some war images (not overly graphic, but there). I have since removed them as I no longer feel they qualify for posting here under these guidelines.
-
i never got to thk you personally for re evaluating my image.
so i will do so now.
i am happy to see you will allow classic artwork
i feel it gives AP a touch of class considering all the darker things on this site.
and i thnk you so much for allowing that
thank you again -
"dead babies-NO"
THATS HORRIBLE
WHO WOULD POST PICTURES OF DEAD BABIES! -
Brilliant! Thanks a ton for adding this. It's going straight into my bookmarks. I'll be sure to keep this stuff in mind!
