Why fret?

Why fret about life -or no life- after death? Because this is your only chance.
“There is no conclusive evidence of life after death. But there is no evidence of any sort against it. Soon enough you will know. So why fret about it?” -Robert Anson Heinlein
  Why fret about it?
What if, just bear with me, what if this was the only chance you had to find truth and the way to have an enjoyable life after death?  What evidence are you willing to accept… physical evidence?  No, there is no physical evidence of life after death.  But is there physical evidence of love?  Yes, you may say… the Physical evidence of love is the actions that one may take to show it, intentionally or inadvertently.  Is there real, physical evidence of the wind?  Only by what the wind moves, and what provokes the wind; what provokes the wind is proven by what it does, what it does is move the wind.  Is there real physical evidence of spirituality?  Only by what it moves, and what provokes spirituality.  And whatever provokes spirituality is proven by what it does, and what it does is provoke spirituality.  Think with me for a moment, have you ever loved someone?  Did you ever want to show that love to them?  Of course, you would do anything for this person to show them the love you have for them.  Can you make them believe that you love them? They can never really know for sure, but you can try to show them in physical ways - through what you do.  But theirs is the choice to believe you and show love back to you or not.
This is what is commonly referred to as religion.  Well, Christians at least.  They’ve decided to believe that someone loves them, and wants to continue to be in a loving relationship with them. It’s really not the religion part that is important.  A relationship is what Jesus is all about.
Why fret about life -or no life- after death?  Because this is your only chance. After you die, that's it. No second chances after your dead. Simply put, someone’s trying to get your attention to tell you he loves you.  So you’re just going to stand back and not believe in his love for you, eh?  Well he’s giving you a choice to accept it or not; to get a fill to that hole in your soul; to find out what this life thing is all about.  To get an enjoyable -no, ultimately and eternally satisfying – afterlife, spent with the only one who loves you fully, wholly, and completely.
You can’t see anything spiritual, it goes against the definition of the word; spiritual is antonymous of physical.  So… fret.  If you want proof of afterlife, of spirituality, go look for what – or rather, who- moves it.

    Awesome

Totally! Wow, this was awesome "Ash"? Can i call you that?? lol Anyways, I totally agree with this whole thing. It is such an important dicision, huh? THE most important to make in this life! Just think; we have 80, (maybe 90 years max.) to decide what will happen to us for Eternity! Not much time in comparison huh?

One thing i found that was confusing: "And whatever provokes spirituality is proven by what it does, and what it does is provoke spirituality." lol, is it just me that's confused, or is that a retorical question?? lol I liked your "wind" analogy, really pictured it for me!

    Keep your light shining!

    Terrific

Terrific column and it almost fits right in with my own ideas of life after death. I recently wrote a poem called "Meanings" that might interest you. It's along the same lines as your column. Keep up the great writing and concepts therein. Take care and God Bless.

I don't necessarily disagree... I applaud, in fact. Although, I must say that, not being Christian, I don't believe in only a single deity; I see the Universe as a whole, and everything in it, having 2 halves: one masculine and one feminine. But yes, I think it is good that someone, no matter the religion, took the time to write this. People should not expect physical evidence of spirituality; it just doesn't exist. Someone up there does love you, no matter what name you call them by.
