Adopters Wanted
The Adopt-A-Poet Foundation is actively seeking individuals who are open-minded, patient, tender of heart and willing to spare just a few precious minutes out of each day performing random acts of kindness.
To become an Adopter follow this link www.freewebs.com/adopt_a_poet/

Click on the "Contact Us" link and any one of the Managers on the list will be willing to set you up. Simply click on their name. You will be directed to their Author's page where you can send them an IM requesting to become an Adopter.

There is a list, constantly being updated of Adopters as well as Adoptees. Once you have signed up, you will be placed on the list and eligible to adopt a poet. Please be patient if you don't see your name immediately.

If you don’t want to be an Adopter, but would like to be placed on the Adoptee list, we can help you there as well.

Specifics
Age, race, religious and political affiliation, height, weight, eye color, hair color and marital status are unimportant. If you are breathing and can read this… WE NEED YOU!!

Responsibilities
As an Adopter you should spend some time with your adopted poet, helping them to grow in the world of poetry. You do this by correcting errors, increasing their vocabulary, guiding and encouraging them in learning new styles, etc. You should add your poet to your favorites list so you can always see their new poetry. When you read a poem, you should always leave a constructive critique.

This program allows younger and/or less experienced poets to learn from those with more experience and/or knowledge in the world of poetry. It gives poets a chance for questions to be answered on a one on one basis. It is also a chance for all poets to grow and even gain a new friend or two.

Once you’ve been added to the list please feel free to go to the Adoptee section and glance through the list of poets seeking an Adopter. If you click on their name, it will direct you to their page where you can look over their work and determine whether or not you might be compatible. Please keep in mind that this program is designed for learning, not matchmaking. If you see a poet you are interested in, contact a manager and they will take it from there. It’s easy, it’s painless and it’s free!

Benefits
You will reap rewards beyond measure if you treat this seriously. Your adopted poet will help you to grow every bit as much as you help him/her.

I will add your name to the list beautyforashes. Changes to the website will take several days so don't be alarmed when you do not see your name there. In the meantime, you can look over the list of Adopters on the website. Click on a name, visit their page, maybe read a few things. If you find someone who interests you, contact a manager, they will handle it from there and notify you when the process is complete.

I will add BOTH of your names to the appropriate lists so you will be under the program. If you would like to adopt another, you are allowed up to four poets should time allow it. By being under the program, when contests are offered for program members only, which is one of the things we will be doing, you both will be able to participate.

Do I need to do anything further?

Nice column. Although i am already an adopter, I was unaware of the 'active' side of the process. Your suggestion to go and peruse seems well-founded. What you don't seem to have addresssed here is how do you know someone is still an 'orphan' as it were. Hope you recruit well and good luck to all

I don't do poetry well, but I majored in English and have a degree. I write stories. Would I still qualify?

    Very interesting...

I had to take a double take and read this twice because at first I thought to adopt a pet since nearing Christmas time. This is an interesting idea and after this comment I'm about to check out link.

I'd like to help but.... I have no real knowledge about poetry only that which comes from my heart, I write what i feel .I could probably only give my opinion for what it's worth..

You could always become an adoptee instead and perhaps find someone who will soend some time helping you to develop a great vocabulary! Think about it and get back to me sweetie!

We do not set up any face to face meetings. This is all done ONLINE. And you are certainly free to sign up on BOTH lists should you choose to.

It's all done online and we could set you up with someone in your own time zone if that is an issue. Think about it!

I like the concept, but living across the other side of the world as I do it would be hard for me. So unfortunately I must decline.
