There has been a lot of misinformation going on about the AP SLAM, so let me state clearly and simply some things you should know. Not ALL the things you should know, but SOME.
)The slam is running August 14th, 2004 7:00 PM Pacific Time
)It is your responsibility to be clear on all the rules. If you don't understand, ask questions BEFORE slam night, not during.
)If you get disqualified because you didn't follow the rules, it is unfortunate, but that is a lesson for you to swallow for next time. Don't beat yourself up over it.
)Don't get sidetracked by what you 'hear' about the slam, but only follow the instructions in the columns.
)The slam is NOT live in terms of voice!!! So if you are expecting this, you are in for disappointment. The slam is 'live' in the fact that you must write your poetry under the time limit given. You must attempt to 'perform' your poetry with the printed word, and not just write poetry. Some of the slam intros are excellent examples of this. You can actually see and feel them on stage through their poetry. This is the command you want!!!
)I will be changing the screen throughout the night on slam night. FOLLOW the instructions that you actually see on each screen, and you should have no problem following the show. It is the means I will be using to build excitement. The screen will be changing throughout the night, by me using my edit button. The edit button is the secret folks, to making this slam work. Follow the instructions on each screen, and we will all make it through the night together. Don't forget to keep refreshing!!!
)I told you to print out the itinerary. Fine! This is for guidelines though. But YOU MUST FOLLOW the actual screen on your computer at the contest link, not the paper. I will be guiding you through the entire night.
)Know your role, and don't worry about any one Else's. Stick to what your role is. Do not try to figure out what the judges or doing, or the MC is doing or how fair the lotteries are. If you do this you will get confused. This is why it is crucial that everyone knows their OWN place, so we can depend on each other.
)Stick to using backgrounds that ALL AP members have access to. So if you are an uber member, do not use your exclusive backgrounds. Use only the backgrounds that can be used by preferred and free poets on here.
)If you are still confused then ask me specific questions in the comment section below, and I will add them to the article up here- so make sure you come back to get an answer to your question.
)If you are shaking your head, saying you are already clear on all this, than good for you. I HAD to write all of this because of the im's I was getting from people. Hopefully this has cleared everything up for all of you.
