Okay people, this is technical, and will confuse you, but it is totally clear to me. I am just putting this up so that you know how the judging works, and you realize I am being fair.
SOME OF YOU WILL NOT AGREE WITH THIS- BUT THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM- THIS IS MY SLAM! I DON'T MEAN TO BE RUDE, BUT THAT IS THE BOUNDARY I MUST SET.
Now here is the logic behind this article. The WHOLE POINT of a slam is that we want to audience to go absolutely wild. Will it happen on here? who knows. This is a first run slam, and you are all my lab rats. Sorry. However the applauses will have a big say in the winner. If a poem gets the crowd all riled up, then it will win over technically more correct poems. It's that simple. You are pleasing two audiences, and are being scored from two audiences on different criteria. So the following is what i have worked out, and this is going to be how the judging works.
Since you want the judges to have 50% of the value, and the audience
reaction to have 50%, here's how to do it:
Judges (J): 5 judges, each assign a value from 0 to 10, with 10 being the
highest.
Applause (A): each applause up to a certain time cutoff will count
towards the score. Since each person can only give one applause per
entry, they can't "stack the vote" for one person. However, each person
can applause more than one poem - I think that's a good thing, not a
problem. There Will be a reasonable time limit for people to applause,
and the audience must abide by an honor system of not continuing to applause when the time is up. Only the first 50 applauses will count, but that shouldn't really be a problem unless you have hundreds of people applausing.
Here's the math:
J1[0..10] + J2[0..10] +J3[0..10] + J4[0..10] +J5[0..10] + A[0..50] =
Total score from 0 to 100.
Highest total score wins!
I would expect scores to be low, around 50 - 70 on average unless you
really get a lot of people applausing. Audience participation by
applausing has critical importance to the score, so people need to get
involved! So please promote and personally invite people to the slam.
But please keep your enthusiasm up even if we have a small crowd. It is okay!!!!
Okay, clear as mud everyone!
Have fun slamming!
