Here are some tips for those who are chosen to be the five random judges of the slam.  Everybody in the audience should read this in case you are chosen.  Performers, you should read this too, as it will help you understand how you will be judged.

1) You will be judging on a scale of 0 to 10 with 10 being the perfect score.  You must submit two scores: one for the content, and one for the performance.  These will be added to the audience reaction score.  The three will then be averaged together by me.

2) I urge you in your scoring to use one decimal place so that the possibility of ties are minimized.

3) Try to suspend your prejudices.  For example, you may prefer "beautiful" poetry over "dark."  You may prefer "jazz" over "ballet."  Please suspend these prejudices.  However, other prejudices in poetry are a must; for example, the fascinating and true rather than the mundane and superficial.

4) Do not be influenced by the audience applauses.

5) Treat every entry with the utmost respect.  It takes courage to write poetry in three to five minutes.

6) Take your judging seriously.  It is not a joke!

Excellent advice to judges, do not be influenced by popular demand, stick to judging rules and regulations. Some people may have friends come and give applause, so that is an important rule to adhere to. You got it going on girl. I am loving this!
