Homosexuality

This is inspired by a write I just read by another Christian on homosexuality.

We are ALL born into sin. Says so right in the bible. Homosexuality is a sin, but a forgivable one. We have an ever loving, ever forgiving God and He understands none of us are perfect. He completely understands the only one who has, or will ever live a perfect life was his Son Jesus. So what exactly makes homosexuality any worse than any other sin? What? Oh wait, I know what - the acceptance of it into society. This matter isn't about Christianity, at least it better not be. Last time I checked in the Bible it stated - "Judge not lest ye be judged" and it does say to love EVERYONE as your God loves you. How dare you claim to be a loving caring Christian but not accept homosexuals as openly as other. You hypocrites. It's absolutely disgusting. Then you all wonder why people shun Christianity? Because of the closed minded ones. The ones who think others who don't practices as they do, who have different lifestyles must be shunned aside. Well guess what, I don't know about your "God" but mine loves homosexuals, mine loves everyone - and mine forgives everyone.

Someone needs to make a huge change, and one quickly or hell's going to fill up awful fast.

Reminds me of a song actually. Fits the situation perfectly..sung by one of my FAVORITE Christian bands, Relient K. I'll post a few of the lyrics.

'Christians-- we're all afraid of fire.
We prefer to suck on pacifiers.
Baby pacifists, we're throwing fits.
We don't shake hands, we shake our fists.

We're cannibals.
We watch our brothers fall.
We eat our own, the bones and all.' - Relient KRanting

i'm an agnostic, and have struggled with my faith as a born and bred catholic for years. i still practiced catholocism, but i disagree with it on so many points- not the principals, but the particulars.
    well said!

You have a strong point here, God hates the sin Not the sinner, The only things I have against gay is that they try to justify it, you can't justify sin. I agree with your point strongly, but same sex marriges I dont suport, I suport the person, but not what they do. God loves everyone, but he won't support there sins. People try to make sin right, but thats never going to happen, not with god. My friend went to a gay pride rally in palm springs, she's not gay she just suports them, and they played a song about how jesus was gay, that pissed her off. Like I said sin will never be right, yes we should love them, but not what they do. josh

well said . . we are all equal in his sight
the churches show NO christian tolerance . . what would jesus have done ? . . . . inclusion not exclusion
hipocrits is the only term well describing this . . used to hide other things like homophobia etc . . but they just people, maybe priests ? . . but still just people . . no better than us
many forget that the bible was about dynamic change, jesus was a part of that!
not holding to static held views that do not necessarily rel;ate to requirements of todays world ?

Nah, but you see, you're wrong - and I can't believe you would think your God not to love a sinner! God may hate the sin, He may hate it's very existance...but God would never hate His child, for no matter how many time His children turn their backs on Him - He would never turn His back on them. He will always invite them into heaven with open arms given they're willing to accept Him..always

This is a controversial piece. Mainly because of the whole subject matter of it. It's true what you say, God does love everyone- His children. Many think that God loves the whole world, but what they don't understand while reading it somewhere in the Bible, is that He loves His children, and children meaning- the ones who have succomed themselves to His reign. To admit themselves as sinners. It is quite uncommon for a homosexual to admit that what they are doing is sinning, and to stop living that life. They may always be a homosexual, but it is in living out that lifestyle that allows them to continue in their sin, and God does not approve or Love that at all. I agree we cannot judge others, because that isn't our job, but God will only love them if they begin to admit to themselves that they are sinners and that they must stop living in that filthy light of the world's view. Open-mindedness is the "world's view" of things. It's not such a great slogan because then it takes in to question (everything), and to be open about it. Well we can, but if we know something is wrong, then it's our job to witness to those who know no differerently and get them to see that what they're doing is wrong, get them to learn a bit more besides what the world seems to think is right...

I couldn't agree with you more. I myself am an athiest, but what you've said here expresses how I feel completely. People should concentrate more on their PERSONAL relationship with God, and stop trying to force-feed their judgment to others.

Actually, from experience, I have discovered that most of the hypocritical "Christians" don't even know you're homo/bisexual until you tell them otherwise. And then they're blindsighted by shock and disgust, and the utter disappointment that they did not see this "flaw". We're normal people who can blend into a common crowd without forcing our sexuality on straight people.

But, anyway. Thank you for writing this. It was very well-expressed and it made my day. I applaud you.

Agreed completely. You're right, and saying the same thing I've yelled to my parents, grandparents, and family for, for a long time. The Bible is written and interpreted by man. I take it as sort of a manuel to help guide your life. Like while you're putting anything together - you skim directions, then do what feels right. Sometimes in the end it's perfect, but a lot of the times it not..much like our lives, which will never be perfect. These people that interpret the Bible and then decide ONLY their interpretation is right drive me crazy! But eh, it's life. Thanks for your opinion I loved reading it!

I understand your rant, and your frustrations.

Then you all wonder why people shun Christianity? Because of the closed minded ones...

Actually, for me it's because of the fact that they constantly try to "save" people that don't have the same beliefs as them. You could view this as closed minded, because certainly, to think you are the only one who is right, and everyone else is wrong, and religion is black and white, not open to interpretation...that's just laughable.

First of all, the bible wasn't the word of god. It was the word of man, written about 30 years after they were faced with a new idea. Hey, that sounds pretty good, let's write this stuff down. It was never meant to be the be all and end all, it's supposed to be a living, breathing thing, that grows and changes as society grows and changes. It's people that insist there is only one way of reading it that cause the bible to become a dead thing. These same people KNOW this, and in their own insecurity and lack of true faith, they feel the fervent need to force their beliefs unto others. Anyone that's tried raising kids know that if there's one sure fire way to NOT get someone to do something, it's to try to force them. If christians had an appealing sort of religion, one that wasn't based on fear, I think they'd have an easier time of it. Damning everyone that doesn't fit their mold? Well, maybe that's why so many people have such a hard time holding onto their faith.

I think as long as you're comfortable with your life choices, and you've chosen a belief you feel comfortable with, then that's the right decision for you, and that's enough. I don't try to sway anyone and convince them that my beliefs are better than anyone else's, and all I ask for it the same respect.

Basically, that's what it narrows down to, respect, or lack thereof, in the case of the christians you speak of in your column.

I applaud you for holding firm to your beliefs, as well as for seeing the flaws in christianity. May you follow the path that best suits you.

You do have a point and I don't judge anyone and I'm actually a christian....People being gay or straight or bi really doesn't bother me....As cliche as it is...whatever floats your boat....I'm open but I wouldn't let anyone that's gay drag me into thier lifestyle because it's not something I would like....I believe we should all keep our personal affairs private so I'm not discriminating agaisnt anyone.Very well written.Blessed Be,Tom

some souls become confused when trying to save othersouls and they think that by condemnation the others will see them as a power to be reckoned with and fall on their kness and repent, but they truly don't and would rather fall on their knees for other reasons. you cannot win someone over with bitterness, but to be sweet might bring fears of homophobia to the converters of all the worlds woes....Artis

Amen! lol. I wish I could make a sign with this on it. big enough for the world to see! Oh, how I despise Bush... The law against gay marriage is EXACTLY the same as when they tried to make Black marriages illegal. Discrimination against a certain people. And they're saying that it should have a different name, if it is legal, because marriage is defined as "man and woman". Well, who made that definition?! The Bible! Whatever happened to separation of Chruch and state? Huh? Yep yep, all hypocrites they are. Yes... evil.. they are evil, my precious. I will keep you away from their evil... (hehehe =P)

"Says so right into the bible,"

You need "in," rather than "into."

I'm not religious, but since I've grown up with a super religious family, I know a lot about the bible. I think that is one reason I don't have very much faith, there are so many things that are contradicting, and throughout the bible a woman is degraded -etc.

I dont have anything else to say. I feel people should be themselves, who they fuck really shouldn't be an issue

we shouldn't just excuse the homosexual lifestyle
-Most of us aren't excusing it. We are accepting it.

even though I think their lifestyle of homosexuality is not pure and God disagrees.
    -I'm confused by that statement?

he still looks down on that type of lifestyle
-How can you love someone, and yet look down upon them?

it also says that a man and a woman should marry...not a woman and a woman or vice versa
-Question... I know that the Bible 'condemns' homosexuality, but does it ever talk about two gays getting married?

Like one of my good friends said during a daily group Bible study one day "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve".
-First off, the is the most overused-overrated cliche used. And the real one is "God made Adam, Eve, and Steve. He loves and cherish them all no matter what they do."

Nice. Good job with this. I was humming the tune to that Relient K song in my head while I was reading the lyrics. I LOVE Relient K. But enough about that. I agree with you about this topic mostly. I agree that homosexuality is a sin, and we were all born with sin, and God forgives. I also believe we have an ever-loving and ever-forgiving God and He loves us ALL no matter what. He wants us ALL to go to heaven to live with Him. And I know that as Christians, we should Love God, Love People. I have a couple of homosexual friends. I totally disagree with homosexuality. In my opinion, it is perverse and I am totally against it. Like gay marriages...I disagree with that too. Like I said, I have some gay friends, but I do still love them, even though I think their lifestyle of homosexuality is not pure and God disagrees. He loves them just as much as the next person, just as much as a straight person, but he still looks down on that type of lifestyle. So I agree with what you stated in this column, but we shouldn't just excuse the homosexual lifestyle some choose to live. The Bible says that we shouldn't judge, but it also says that a man and a woman should marry...not a woman and a woman or vice versa. Like one of my good friends said during a daily group Bible study one day "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve". I totally respect your opinion. Good job with expressing your opinion and being so open. I hope I didn't offen anyone. This is just my opinions. God bless!

From what I saw in this rant, is exactly how my beliefs around homosexuality are. (Except I don't see it truly as a sin, as I am one whom believes that man is born with it as a test.) I was born and raised Catholic, but strayed away from mainstream organized religons because of the consistent persecutions. I am still Christian, yet not belonging to any church but to my God. Last time I checked, one did NOT belong to a church. They belonged to a God, and will always be deeply indepted to this God.
