Abortion is not a woman's rights issue. To call it a woman's rights issue is to deny a basic moral premise which states that I have the right to do anything as long as it does not infringe on the rights of another. Abortion denies the most basic of human rights - the right to life. Abortion is not a woman's rights issue it is a human rights issue. Abortion destroys a human life. It is murder. Those who commit abortions need to be prosecuted as murderers. If abortionist would be prosecuted as the murders that they are, then it would deter the back alley abortions.
Abortion denies an even higher principle than you shall not murder. It denies and violates the purpose for which all humans are born. That purpose is love. We are created to love God and to love each other. To abort a child takes away a creation designed to honor and love God. To abort a child takes away the life of a child that should be loved. Love is not convenient. Love is not painless. Love is sacrificial. It is a sacrifice to bring a life into this world. It is a sacrifice to raise the child. It is a sacrifice to choose to love that child. To kill a child before it is born is a choice not to love the child.
We are so consumed with our own rights as individuals we forget and deny the very purpose for human existence. Our purpose in life is not to live the most convenient, comfortable, pain free, and happy life possible. Our purpose is to love. Our greatest joy is to love. Our greatest gift is love. We are loved by a God who created us out of love. We are to return that love to him. We are to give that love to others.
Abortion is a choice. Life is a choice. To choose life is to choose to love and fulfill our purpose in life. for an example: if a child is born into an abusive, horribly violent family, the mother HAD the choice to give it up, or keep it, now, the child sufferes thru horrible sexual crimes, beatings, abuse etc, would it not have been better for that child to have been aborted when the chance was given? instead of having to live in that kind of life?

The part about it being a life is debateable, nobody has really closed that issue yet. But, my rather uncommon position is, i don't care if it is killing someone. People die all the time. Get over it. At a certain point, it just doesn't matter. If someone has a child that they are unable to care for, then what? They put it up for adoption, and it gets shuffled around or adopted, or not. Or maybe they get kept, and get kinda screwed. Not the kind of food they need, can't buy the stuff for school, college is a bigger problem. Just more people. Life ain't so valuable, there is a bunch of it, and everyone dies in the end. Its life. The chance of someone so young getting pregnant has such a small chance of happening and the odds of dying from a pregnancy are so remote it's not even funny. If the woman dies, the doctor is not supposed to kill the baby. The doctor is supposed to try and remove the baby from the womb and help it live outside the womb.. There have been instances of babies being born at 6 months and surviving.

We shuold be talking about the EQUALITY of the unborn child. That should be the new catch-phrase of every right-to-lifer. Because if we show we believe in the equality of the unborn child, the average non-churched person will be more inclined to believe it. Plus, poor-choicers will be forced to answer why the unborn child is not an equal-- the debate which they do not want to have. In fact, in Australia right now, there is a debate going on due to a documentary that will feature a video of an abortion. The maker wrote an article in the Sunday Herald asking that poor-choicers help think of reasons why taking a life in this case is not murder. They obviously did not have that debate before. -
When abortion was illegal, and woman were raped, they had to use hangers for abortion to try and save their own lives. becuase say you were eight, imagine an eight year old having a baby, and of course they both are most likely to die. One of my friends were adopted at a young age, and my uncle just adopted 2 kid, 1 13 year old, and 1 9 year old... and they LOVE it there! Definitely agree with you all the way on this one. Though I am a democrat (I use the term loosely because I really loathe politics), I am an avid pro-lifer (also in the matter of capital punishment). No one is dictating what anyone should do with their own body because it's not your body, although an abortion will cause major physical and psychological damage to the abortee as well. And as for adoption? There are people around the country who can't have children who are just waiting for someone to adopt, and sometimes those people will never get the opportunity. And even if it causes hardhship, that's a means through which a person can learn and still develop into a stronger person. Life is so precious, and we regard it so casually. People need to learn to own up to their actions. And in the very rare instances that a mother chooses to abort because of rape, I still don't condone that. Granted, I can understand how horrible it would be to interrupt someone's life with such pain. But why not bring beauty out of a horrible experience? Why does one horrible act warrant other? I just don't understand it.

I am a spiritual person and go by my personal walk with God, although I am a christian, which by definition is someone who is a believer in Jesus Christ as their personal savior. At 13, we are still learning what to do, and testing new waters, when you throw pregnancy into the mix, it is not a pretty sight. I am pro choice, but personally I don't agree with abortion except in the case of rape or if the woman's health is in danger by carry a child. Some people are completely against abortion, which disturbs me. I, myself, was nearly raped by my cousin. What if he succeeded and I concieved? My life would have been over. What future prospects does a 14 year old single mother have?
People should be more sympathetic to the health of others instead of pushing their own morals on everyone. Sorry if that seems hypocritical, but I can't describe it any better. -

to that, ill add.. that a lot of conservatives want the adoption of foster kids to be soley by a straight couple or person. i suppose they think giving that kid hell through its most impressionable years is better than having a lesbian or gay man tucking him in every night, where they know theyre loved.

i dont agree with abortion, at all, namely partial-birth, but i am pro-choice. honestly, if someone doesnt want that child, chances are its going into foster home when it's born. and bouncing form home to home will never make that child stable. and when that child grows up, it- most likely -isnt going to college or going to get a very good paying job. and in trying situations like that drug/alcohol abuse is where a lot of them sway. what if that former child grows up to heavily abuse drugs and he needs to steal to support his habit? what if something goes awry in that burglary and someone dies? where will that child go then? the majority of pro-lifers support the death penelty, and thats just where that innocent child burdened with a turmultuous life is going to go. ironic, isnt it?

when these problems are solved
then we can talk about abortion
then we can say that these children have the right to live.

I actually do agree with you for the most part on this one. I disagree with the morality of abortion, and even if I was raped, I do not think that I could bear to terminate the pregnancy once a child was conceived.
It's a tricky concept, though. I would never do such a terrible thing myself, but women who truly do not want to have a child may resort to more gruesome methods if abortion is outlawed.
My idealism prompts me to agree with you, though second thoughts as to practicality make me reconsider slightly. A woman (and a man, as well) ought to think of the consequences before acting on desires. A far more humane option is adoption.
If anyone wishes to discuss this topic with me (an intellectual discussion, please), I'm more than willing to comply. I can see both sides to a certain degree, and I love hearing peoples' opinions on the subject. -

I guess I choose to love the sinner and not the sin, I would never deem to tell someone what to do in any of the above situations I would however make sure they felt the love of christ at all times, and not be colored by what i felt of their choice.

Abortion, quite frankly is wrong. If a woman is pregnant and "trips" and falls onto her stomach, thus killing the baby, she can be tried for murder of an unborn child. Yet, when she goes to an abortion clinic and has a doctor brutally remove the child and kill it, its considered choice. This is wrong is it not? There are a *few* instances that I believe that it perhaps is a choice, but that is not after the woman has had unprotected sex and screwed up. It was her choice to get knocked up accidentally, not the childs. Think before you act for goodness sakes.

I don't agree with all of your views in this piece. What about cases of rape? Would a child of 13 want a baby from someone that raped her? I think not. I think that it's the choice of the mothers, no one elses, however, i dont think it's right that people get abortions just because they have "changed their mind".

I think the law should prosecute doctors much like doctors who practice assisted suicide. Woman are punished by the act. Just talk to one who's had an abortion and feel the emotional pain and regret she experiences.

i agree with bits and peices of this and i agree with 2 other comments here. i believe that it IS a right to have an abortion if you are raped or sexually harrassed in any way to cause pregnancy. the part i agree with is if someone does not want a child, either they do not engage in a sexual act or they use safety precautions. thanks for sharing your opinion

I agree completly in this case, I do however have one stipulation. What if you were raped and got pregnant? I'm sure you would not want to raise a child that reminds you every day of you horriable eperiance. Just a thought...otherwise I totally agree.

One of my friends got Raped by her Dad. She got pregnant and she was only 12. You see I am anti-abortion too but there are cases where the woman/girl has no choice but to have an abortion. Now many argue that there is always a choice but if that choice is to kill a child in place of a child (that is genetically inbreed and probably will not live to the age of 6 months) is, I believe, also a crime. I agree mostly with your post but there are exceptions.

I must agree with your comments. I have learned to read and critique the material of the poem, rather than the person who wrote it. Others haven't reached that point though, so expect some serious bashing.
In the line: "Those who commit abortions need to be prosecuted as murders." I believe you mean "murderers."
I have to agree with you here. I feel the choice shouldn't be after pregnancy is discovered, but before the actions lead up to that. In other words, unwanted pregnancy can be prevented by birth control and condoms. If a woman is raped and gets pregnant, that is a whole other issue. Some people want to let the baby live - perhaps having a child can help a woman to heal. I happen to know a woman who was raped, had the child and does not regret it at all. Another person I know was taken advantage of by her boyfriend, she had the abortion and regrets it every day of her life. It is something someone should learn as much about as possible before making the decision. I feel that it shouldn't even be a thought in your head, but to some people it is, I just hope they educate themselves before making the decision.
