I think my first reaction was shock and disbelief. The rest of the week was filled with conflicting emotions of deep mournful sadness, vengeful anger, joy and pride. The events of September 11, 2001 and the stories to follow will not be forgotten.

When horrible tragedies happen many questions arise. Questions like "Where is God?" "If God is so loving, how could he allow this to happen?" "Does God Care?" "Where is hope?"

As I dealt with my conflicting emotions and pondered questions such as these, I realized the answers to all my questions are found in the cross.

How could God allow such a horrible tragedy to happen to people? How could he allow such pain upon this nation? The answer is in the cross. Jesus suffered more than any of us. He endured unimaginable pain. Yet, he did nothing to deserve it. He was truly innocent. God could have stopped it, but he didn't. Why? Because God's ultimate goal is to redeem us to himself. The only way he could do that was through the suffering and death of his son. God does not cause evil, but he will use evil for our good. He uses the evil of the crucifixion of his only son, to redeem us to himself, to draw us into a loving relationship with him.

Does God care? Does he understand? The answer is in the cross. Jesus, the Father's only son, died. God understands the pain of death for he experienced that pain. He empathizes with those who lost loved ones.

Where is hope? The answer is in the cross. Jesus not only died but he rose from the dead. The cross gives up hope. Because Jesus died and rose again we have hope that we will rise again. Death is not the end. The enemy, death, was destroyed at the cross and hope was given at the resurrection.
Just my personal thoughts on that awful day.

I'll never forget that day, because the first thing I heard: my motherinlaw called me in the morning to say that some terrorists destroyed all the financial buildings in NY. O K A Y...and yes that's all she said.

    A BEAUTIFUL POEM

This is so beautiful. You write so easily of our Lord. I am a new believer in God and have so much to learn. I am a believer living in a home where no one else does. A wonderful poet, live4eternity led me to our Lord in July. Somehow God brought us together on this website. He prays with me on the phone.Thank you for telling me of this lovely story of 911. I did not believe in God when it happened. Now that I do I feel differently about it. Sorry to go on like this. Take care and God bless you, Sandy

Lovely. I love the way that you repeat "The answer is in the cross." It very much drives the issue home. Your thoughts are clearly drawn out in words, and it leaves no room for question. I love it, love it. I believe that everything will work for God's glory, even tragedy from sin can be brought back to be used for God's great plan. Although we must suffer the consequences for our sinful lives, that doesn't mean that there is no hope.

    Excellent writing.
