False hopes - 19/04/2004
False hopes has been on my favourites list pretty much since I first came to AllPoetry. I may have added False hopes to my favourites because she entered my first contest, or maybe I just found one of her poems and read it. However I found her, I really enjoyed her work and since then have been constantly reading her poems and enjoying her skill with words.
As a Critic:
She’s posted nearly 400 critiques, which is more than four times the amount of poems she has listed, and comments on a wide range of poets and styles. She usually leaves medium-length comments and will be critical if you ask her to be, but constructively critical, not nastily.
Critiques on Her:
People tend to be very enthusiastic about her work and are willing to offer pointers as to how to improve her work, and she usually will take any advice on board, even if she doesn’t change the poem exactly. You will see her improving as a poet as she writes more and gets more comments.
Columns:
No columns listed.
Stories:
She has one story listed: Who would have saved them? - allpoetry.com/Story/432858 - This is a very short story and although in parts the style of writing seems a bit too simplistic, there is a very deep message, which is conveyed beautifully. This story seems quite sad, and the length suits it as such. It will get you thinking, and some of the words used here are beautiful and convey wonderful images.
Contests:
She hasn’t held any contests yet.
Trophies:
False hopes has got one bronze trophy for ‘Katie’, but personally, I think that she should have a lot more trophies as she is quite a talented young poet.
Poems:
False hopes has written a number of poems on a wide variety of topics. She’s been a member since July, 2003, and I will look at a different poem from each month as an example of her work.
July 2003 : Fake smile - allpoetry.com/Poem/276816 - This is quite a dark, yet meaningful poem, full of raw emotion which leaves you in total admiration of her work. It is a very sad poem, but is so true, and can be related to by so many people. This is a good poem to read, although the format does make it seem like an essay of sorts.
August 2003 : Cracks - alllpoetry.com/Poem/305497 - This is a short poem which at first glance appears very simple, but is actually much deeper, and again, a very emotional write. It uses beautiful images to convey its’ message and is lovely to read.
September 2003 : Stabbing Yourself in the Back - allpoetry.com/Poem/336008 - This is again a short but meaningful poem which will make you think. It speaks not only of the harm you can cause to others, and the harm others can cause to you, but the fact that a lot of the time we can make problems for ourselves and hurt ourselves without even realizing it.
October 2003 : I’m not a barbie doll - allpoetry.com/Poem/361532 - This is quite thought-provoking as people usually assume that all the blonde pretty girls are bimbos who make fun of other people, and they never realize that in these girls can often get stereotyped too. This is like speaking out against all the people who hate the typical cheerleaders and showing them that blondes are people too!!!
November 2003 : Floating down lifes lonely stream - allpoetry.com/Poem/373835 - This is a longer poem than usual, but has quite a good rhyme scheme, although in parts the rhyme may be a little forced. This is quite a beautiful piece with lovely imagery and some good metaphors, and is quite uplifting.
December 2003 : My own pace - allpoetry.com/Poem/424879 - This poem is not so structurally perfect, but is quite beautiful and inspiring, and it is quite easy to relate to what is said here, that life seems to go by so quickly that we can’t appreciate everything that goes on in it.
January 2003 : Addictions Dreams - allpoetry.com/Poem/456050 - This is a beautiful poem about love and death and is just lovely to read. It is quite short but really grabs your attention and it encourages you to read more. The subtle, unforced rhyme adds to the piece and makes it very enjoyable to read.
February 2003 : Gain courage - allpoetry.com/Poem/484650 - This is a very emotional poem and in times the emotion wins over the poem and leaves it shaky structurally, but beautiful as an insight into the world of the poet. It is very sad, but at the same time very deep and almost analytical of the poet’s life until now. This really does need to be read to be appreciated as an example of how to use emotion well.
March 2003 : Wishing the ocean would part - allpoetry.com/Poem/556067 - A beautiful poem about having a lover kept away from you by distance, and understanding that that distance needs to be there, but you don’t really want it to be.
False hopes is a brilliant poet to read. Many of her poems carry deep messages and can be very emotive.
If you have anyone you would like to nominate for a review, let me know. I do have a long list of people waiting though.

I have a great person in mind. He has done so much with his writing. I'll IM you his name. Is this an on-going list? If you want, I can link to my Recommended Reads column (featured weekly) so you will get more recognition. You can just send me the link to the newest or latest posted, and on my next RR list I can add it at the bottom.

excellent
Funny I read this and think about alot of issues on the site
(1) Being of the many un-noticed poets here on the site.I think Kevin and the others with authority(greeters, deputy, ect) is doing a great job announcing the new poets and members who join AP.
It helps in many ways for the new poets to be noticed and meet new friends here..And I applaud them for it.
(2) What you are doing is sweet yet it don't solve the problem I am not saying this in a negative manner in fact I love it
nice idea and if only we can all do it I appalaud you...I think back to lets say 2 years ago,I being fairly new to AP I entered a contest"spam" I won and I was so pleased..It made me feel important..Then I view contests lately and see so many new poets who have talent being unfairly judged
.I still enter contests I even held one a few weeks ago and made sure I stated that "newbies" were encouraged to apply.I had to recognize each talent so I awarded each entry with a few points. The new member contest or trophy-less contests are wonderful..But MOST IMPORTANT..is that all the members should hit the read link and view poems and give a comment or even sign an author page
..It means alot to the poet as well as the ALLPOETRY Site..Thanks for indtrouducing me to a new poet and Keep up the great work we need alot more people like you dear
~Peace~
