Comment Ratings, Take 3!

The comment rating system has been updated again. Now you can rate a comment however many stars you like - that's up to you, as it should be.

The points given are based on the length, so a small (<100 letter) comment gets 1 point per star, medium gets 2 points, and long gets 3 points.

Points are given by the site, based on ratings, to encourage longer and more constructive comments. Intentionally "padding" comment length is not allowed and can get you in trouble if caught.

As always, we'll be looking at and tweaking how the comment rating system works over the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone for their feedback and input as we've been adjusting it

Also, the featured box now handles adult items differently - members who are hiding adult material shouldn't see adult items, and others will see it, with a * at the end of the title.

I realize that a lot of "modern" poetry can sometimes have sexual or adult themes in it, and wanted to make it easier to still us the featured box for these types of poems.

    This works much better it always sucks to change the system... I must say after being here for over 5 years it gets on my nerves when you make a bunch of changes it makes me feel like I have to re learn the site. I like this though it really works well.

    I think you did well to let poets decide for themselves if they want to 5-star or not, Kevin, as well as the new point system. Good for you - that's the spirit!

    Kevin, you are pretty darn cool. Let them eat stars. Your compromise is genius.

    I also like the change with the feature box. In the past I have not featured some of my erotica, because I suspected clicks on those types of poems might end up getting wasted. Thank you.

    Let me also take this opportunity to thank you for all you do for us. I know there must be days when you feel people around here aren't very grateful. That is never truly so.

    Kevin while I agree on compromise, I think improvements in your site and minds eye is what makes this place work. I don't believe you censored anyone. I just think a pitiful 100 word comment shouldn't be healthily rewarded. We're poets, artists of the written word 100 words should just be warm up.

    Great compromise. The writer gets to choose the amount of stars for the comment, as they should, and the site gives points based on length. I still think it should all be up to the writers on how much the comment is worth, point wise, but I think most will agree that this is a great compromise. =]

    I'm going to be different from everyone here and say I still prefer the original system. I mean, this is probably me but I don't like reciving a message saying "you got 5 points for a small (<100 letters) comment".

    That just makes me feel a bit ...... I dunno, bad?
    Which is quite unfair if you are in a bit of a rush and don't have time to write a massive long comment.

    I like this, Kevin.

    I have to admit I may have been wrong in initially being pissed about the change. I have noticed people making longer comments. I don't know that they're necesarilly better but I see your intent.
