Also, I've been working on a new email-notification system to let you know when you get a new friend request, favorite poem added, etc. Moderators are testing it now, hopefully it will be released soon.
If you can't see the 'chat with users' link, wait a few hours for the cached version to clear, click edit then submit again, or add ?recache to the end of the URL to load the latest version.
Happy poetry writing!

Lingering bug from the database upgrade should be fixed, for example with addlines. The featured box now attempts to hide adult items from users who can't view them, and will display a * (star) at the end of the title if something is adult. The "chat with this user" link is back - invite your friends to chat about a poem!

Well, I probably have 37,750 spam emails on my addy already, I rarely go there. I just delete them in whole, unless I'm looking for a specific email that was brought to my attention for my job or something. I do think the on off switch is a good idea.

I like the changes as itwill be interesting to see what happens ect. any ways much obliged and kudos to you for making changes that barely did anything to the site meaning it didn't boot us all out or keep us from entering ect. any ways keep up the nice work and kudos to the commentors on their opinions as im open to em all and like the idea

thanksfor everything and I agree that there needs to be an option to turn emails off. I'm on allpoetry more than my emila and I don't want to have to go through piles of stuff I already know about when I DO actually check my email

Thank you Kevin for keeping up a wonderful poetry website.
Please give us the option to turn off e-mails. I can't filter "spam" when I am reading my e-mails online. And I would hate to label AllPoetry as spam anyway.

good job as always Kevin...
my comment is along the lines of the others
"Also, I've been working on a new email-notification system to let you know when you get a new friend request, favorite poem added, etc. Moderators are testing it now, hopefully it will be released soon."
please make this optional with a check box to turn it on or off - i have shut off EVERY single email notification I get from FB and don't want my inbox to now start filling with these.
and this part:
"Sorry, it'll be a mandatory notification thingy I've even got it set up so it notifies you when any of your friends log in, so you can log-in and chat with them too!"
I hope that only pertains to when person's are uncloaked? sometimes upon logging in people just want to be able to sign in and write or read/comment and spend time to themselves not being msg'd every few min
please ponder these ideas as it seems quite a few people are concerned about the same email issue
Thanks for all the hard work you do!

I think I get it. I'm anxious to see what this means. Albeit for the effort, Kevin is not just a little bit in the courts. Thank you!
As most profile options are, users should be able to 'click' if they want this in their email. It should be on the 'Profile' page.

Cool. Can't wait for the changes!

Email notification is fine as long as there is an option to turn that off.
Why does AP keep losing half of my comments when I type a long one?
-
An email digest once a day or once a week might be a good option as opposed to individual emails for every notification
-
I agree with Immortal Obscurity. My suggestion, if you wanted to go on with the email notifications, is to allow members to adjust what they want to be emailed to them and what they don't want to be emailed to them. That way, it's all customized to each person's liking.
Just a thought or two. (:
But I do like the considerations. -
ch ch ch changes lol i think of david bowie, i jest, but i am liking the site changes.

Hmmm... Don't know if I like this idea. Facebook tried it, and now, they send you email-notifications for every, single, little thing; when someone pokes you, writes on your wall, etc... you get an email, and it clutters up one's inbox with a ton of unnecessary spam. Hence why I hate facebook. Heh.
The only things we should potentially have email-notifications of are if someone adds your poem to a list that isn't your own. That way, we've got a better idea of what's going on... But the rest is just going to cause problems/annoy members. If anything, we should have the option to disable said emails.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Just thought I'd put it out there for consideration.

oh, you are a mean one, senor kevin. you and your skills.
-
i think that'll annoy people because its basically just like spam u'll be getting 100 emails a day all from one site and no one wants to go in to read them all. it should be optional so it can be turned off
